With the Death of Burt Reynolds, This one really hurt me. Not since Don Rickles Passing last year, I cried with Burt. I truly loved this Man. I hope he is at peace. Rest Easy, Old man. Rest Easy.
if you have not seen his last movie, "The Last Movie Star", do it. it is on Amazon Prime. the director/screenwriter wrote the movie especially for Burt and it is based on his life even though the guy he is playing has a different name. it will make you laugh and tear up for two hours.
Burt Reynolds is one of the last movie stars we have still around. I'll always respect and love him.
One can't grasp whether you offered your comment sorrowfully or as a wise guy. Regardless, Mia7189 was aware Burt was not going to last forever. None of us will. However, respect and love continues regardless of whether somebody is physically present or not.
I've just watched the 1980 film Rough Cut. Burt Reynolds, David Niven, Lesley Anne Down. I really enjoyed it. Burt was dashing, funny, smooth, classy, did his own stunts and his acting was top-notch. Strangely, it apparently flopped at the box office.

Burt was quick, not as quick as Johnny, but pretty good for an actor. He had that insane high pitched cackling laugh which complimented Johnny's famous, star making laugh that young comedians dreamt of hearing one day. Burt always looked like he was having a good time after "making it". I still remember his first gig on Gunsmoke as Quint the muscular Blacksmith. We thought he was the coolest thing about the show. Not as cool as Clint's Rowdy Yates character in Rawhide or Steve McQueen' as Josh Randall in Wanted Dead Or Alive but he was big time cool nonetheless.

After watching the other interview clip, I totally thought, could you just create a seat in the studio for him to sit in anytime? There is something about him that makes you want to see him on a talk show on a regular basis. He has so many good stories and still has great comedic timing.

Not funny.
But that wasn´t Burt´s fault. On the first day of "City Heat" he got seriously hurt because a guy took the wrong chair and broke Burt´s jaw. He was in a lot of pain. He was forced to take pain killers because of the pain. But he took pills before "City Heat" because he did too many stunts when he was younger and had body problems.
He has had heart issues the last 8 yrs of his life. A bad heart zapps everything from you, all your strength and energy, you can hear it in his voice. My Dad was the same way at 82 with his bad heart and he didn't party hard or have plastic surgery. Try to find some compassion...if we are lucky, we will all get old too...even you.

Burt Reynolds was THE WORST guest on Johnny Carson, pretty much every time.
Partly because he almost completely ignored the audience.
My guess is that was ego-based arrogance, which came across in the interview.
But he was such a HUGE Movie Star (NOT an actor!) that it probably really messed with his head.
Not sure what Carson shows you were watching, but he was one of the very best! Carson LOVED him. He made over 60 appearances on Carson over the years. He was asked by Johnny, almost immediately after 1st appearing, to host the show on his days off. This did not happen as a result of him being a bad guest!
