After so many decades of Australian motoring journalists being snooty about Jaguars and always denigrating them unfairly compared to German rivals, your review Tom is so refreshing. In a sea of Germanic luxury cars the XF is a standout! Thanks for reminding us of that.

    • @christhornycroft3686

It actually looks like a luxury car. The German rivals have all gone sporty. There's nothing plush or soft about the ride. They're just a ploy to keep chiropractors in business. I don't buy a luxury car for back pain. I really don't care about 0-60 times. I just want decent power, smooth acceleration, and ultra comfort and convenience. I'm not 16 anymore or in midlife crisis.

What’s really exclusive about Jaguar cars (and SUV) are that they always appear so compelling and desirable. Seems like they don’t age. Even the previous gen XF didn’t really look like it needed a facelift to catch up with the competition. In fact, Jaguar don’t really have a competition in the looks department. It’s evergreen. I still find Jaguar XJ so so desirable. Still looks as fresh as when it was first launched. For one, Jaguars are more head turners than any Germans. And that’s why it’s so exclusive.

    • @chasingcars

Jaguar is the first European luxury brand I’ve had two of. It’s an emotional connection, a very special car. In America our cities are a sea of German auto makers and it’s nice to have a sexy boutique car. I had a 2017 XF 20D and now I have the 2020 XE R DYNAMIC S AWD fully loaded. It’s bee on 3 2200 mile road trips cross country. Reliable and so much fun to drive I look for excuses to put more miles on it. The 2021’s have been sold out all year, the dealerships can’t even keep them in the show room. Now it’s a several month long waiting list for a 2022 and almost every incoming unit across the country is already spoken for. This is a great review.

Have an F-Pace and an XE and the thing about Jags is that they look as good as they drive or perhaps they drive as good as they look. No one else builds cars that are as pleasing to look at from all angles as they are to drive in any weather or road condition. Jaguar products are different and once you own one of these cars, you soon come to love them more and more with each passing month and year which is uncommon as most cars wear out their welcome after 6 months or so with stiff rides or bad ergonomics or less than excellent handling and performance. Not so with Jags, the more you drive and live with them, the more you come to fully appreciate just how well rounded and rewarding they truly are.
They are like a 130 LBS unaltered male American Akita show dog, gorgeous, quick, agile, and powerful bordering on absolutely ferocious when warranted by the situation. Sure you could get a highly competent and rather common Teutonic guard dog like a German Shepherd, Rottweiler or Doberman, but the American Akita would mop the floor with every one of those breeds by virtue of its sheer power and fighting prowess. Whereas the German breeds are great guard dogs, an American Akita, like a Jaguar car, is on a whole different level. It is a war dog or in automotive terms a stunning James Bond car. What Jaguar does better than anyone else when they hit the mark (as they have been doing as of 2020) is that they are combing comfort and luxury with sportscar power, handling and looks. No one does it better and that is why Jaguars don't sell so well...it is because on paper you cannot appreciate a Jaguar, nor can fully rely on looks to sell cars, rather you have to own one for several days or weeks to truly come to appreciate and totally fall in love with one . Getting people into Jags for short test drives is not enough. Sure they look good and handle great but to really sell these cars over Teutonic alternatives, Jag needs to get customers to spend more than 20 minutes with these vehicles to fully appreciate just how good they are in all manner of situations and conditions. To get the true sense of a Jaguar, you have to spend time with it, just as you would with a pedigreed show dog. You can't simply take it for a short leash walk and come to know it's soul. No, rather, you have to bond with a Jaguar, and that happens over days, week, months and years and the process is unlike the ownership experience with nearly all other car brands. Jaguars grow on you over time, to the point where you would never choose to live without one.

It seems strange to me! Having lived in Australia for some years, that there’s only a four cylinder available. Or hearted seats. In England,; we don’t really see that sort of car as a ‘real Jag. Apart from the sports, SUV and EV models, the sedan has always been the XJ models, I have an XJ 351 Portfolio,r with the smallest engine available - a V6 3litre. This has 3225bhp, it’s quick alright, but it has a lot more space and usury. The sound system is Bowers & Wilkins 1200Watts with 20 surround sound for DVDs,, or Bluetooth connection if you want. The seats are heated and cooled, back and front - they massage as well. That roof lining? Mine is suede, which means anything which is chrome or plastic is a button or a handle - the rest I all wood or leather. I have checked the Australian ads to see what you can get, but have only ever seen one or two Portfolios and no Autobiography models for sale, only the more basic Executive or Premium Executive models. The 351 series, though is going to be the last of these beautiful cars. Gentleman’s club on wheels? Definitely, I have never seen anybody in a baseball cap behind the wheel of an XJ!

I the 3 years that i own it now nothing major has really gone wrong. I changed the radiator once and did basic maintenance. If you never had a jag I really recommend them because in my opinion they are way better cars than competitors.

Jaguar used to build high quality beautiful cars, but that is no longer the case. This Jaguar is a shadow of it's former glory. Gone are the twin chrome exhaust tips. The seats are boring and have no piping or quilting (even a Hyundai has better seats), instead it has cheap print on them 2:34. No fancy Jaguar wood on the dash and doors (it now looks fake) 2:40. They forgot to integrate the center screen with the dash. They also forgot to finish the trunk with carpeting on top. The power train is a complete joke. The colors are bland, the exterior shape is nothing to write home about. Even the growler badge on the front looks like a cartoon that a five year old drew. Look at that crappy weird shape piece of plastic on the window of the rear passenger door. Jaguar was too lazy to design a larger piece of window glass so they slapped that crap there to fill the void. There is basically no compelling reason to buy this car. Better off buying a Genesis than this piece of junk.

Fully specced with on road costs, brings this car up to around AU$150k. The sound system? Hmm, from other youtubers I have watched reviewing this car, the thought was more like its just an average system and a bit disappointing (even with the optional surround sound system). Jaguar may have made a mistake with only one choice of engine size. Again with many comments I have read on youtube, a lot of people say that being just a 4 cylinder is the deal breaker (okay, if you can believe youtube comments!). Overall, if I had the money, I would buy it!
