I was born six months before Richard Nixon was inaugurated in 1969. He died in 1994 in the very same hospital in NYC where I was born. I went through puberty, lost my virginity, graduated from high school and moved 1,000 miles away from where I grew up during the Reagan era of the 80s. I first voted for President in 1988 for Michael Dukakis. I remember the pride I felt in having a say in the future of our democracy by casting my vote. Now, all these many years (decades) later, I have never been more fearful of losing our democracy. If you read the transcript you'll note that Zelensky praises trump on a bunch of things. It's some of the most trasparent flattery I've ever seen, but Trump's way too stupid and way to vain to realize that. And I think in his mind "getting praised on the phone" = " perfect phone call". Hence also why he insisted people should read the transcript. And he just doesn't realize how incriminating that "I want you to do us a favor, though" part is.
