    This is such a wonderful channel. My child is 4 and has autism. I am currently focusing on “who” questions. The speech therapist was trying to prompt him with “who’s the man selling balloons?” “ oh he’s a balloon seller” I mentioned to her that he tends to get stuck even with people at home. I am definitely trying your methods! It’s daunting but you make it look simple

      At Zeena- you should look into Foundation developmental house. My son has CAS (apraxia) and they have been a blessing! When we started about a year ago my son was basically non verbal and now he can say hundreds of words!!!!!! They offer boot camp type programs since it is in chandler and a bit south of you but the staffs credentials and abilities in the speech pathology dept are amazing and well worth the drive and money.

    Hi Kelli, I love all you videos they are so helpful thank you. Since watching your videos my 2 1/2 year has gone from completely non verbal to using up to 7 words which is amazing! but I was wondering if you could give me some advise? My kid's preschool have recently introduced a card system to allow my son to communicate which was suggested by his speech and language therapist however I have found that he is now replaced talking with the cards. Is there anything I can do to change this.

    • @TheSpeechScoop
      @TheSpeechScoop  2 года назад +2

      Ask the preschool to continue honoring his communication by letting him choose the card - and add in a short pause - where they hold the card up to their mouth and model the word with an exaggerated vowel - "AAAApes" for Grapes - to draw attention to the oral motor movement and pattern of the word so that he is getting exposure each time - they can also provide ONE grape at a time and ask him to simply open his mouth and say "ah!" or "AY" for practice productions each time he wants a grape (example) but also, as a therapist who goes into preschools.. it's unlikely that they will have time to implement this so your best chance is a speech therapist OR implementing this at home with his cards / core board.

    Hello! What is your opinion on using motherese? Can it be used for all children, with or without a language delay, or does it hinder language development? Would you recommend changing ones intonation (ex. using a high pitch) AND grammar (ex. omitting words to simplify a sentence) when using motherese and talking to a child?

    • @TheSpeechScoop
      @TheSpeechScoop  2 года назад

      great question - there is a difference between "motherese" and "baby talk!" here's an article on it! www.littlefoodieclub.com/tastebuddy/2018/12/20/differences-in-baby-talk-versus-parentese
