Yeah I have some classical liberal friends, hell my girlfriend is a liberal and lets just say we do a lot of agreeing to dissgree but sometimes things do get heated and we both have to take a breath and lower the temperature.

I'm 63. When I was young, everyone was taught the 3 things you NEVER spoke of were:
1. Your pay/money
2. Your religion, and
3. Your politics

Dude, we overthrew our government over not being represented to degree 1/5th as much and paying a tax 1/10th as high as today, and we entered into civil war over financial, moral, social and ethical differences that were half this bad.

And NO, the founding fathers overthrowing our government was not a mistake. That revolution created this country. And as bloody as the Civil War was, it was unavoidable bc it established many protocols and policies that were necessary. We had no national identity as a country and was nearing a collapse after the war of 1812, with Britain burning the White House down and powerful enterprises opening up in the West. If it hadn't been North vs South in 1863, it would've been North vs South vs West in 1869, and that war might've went different. The key is to remember those problems, and learn from those outcomes.

Besides, not to step on your virtue signaling and righteous indignation, but in a purely survivability dynamic more black people are killed in 24 hours today by gang and hip hop culture than died in a month during slavery. But I can't force you to give up your Jesse Jackson/Hollywood perception of what slavery was actually like or make you honestly look at how horrible the poverty, crime, violence and vice numbers today are to understand that.

My immediate family has been divided since the 2016 election. Half of my siblings won't speak to me because I'm a republican, and I voted for Trump. I never had that mindset whey Biden was elected in 2020. What gives?

Yep, 20 years ago I could disagree with someone politically, we said our opinions, agreed to disagree and went and got a beer. These days if you don't agree they're ready to assault you, cuss you and never speak to you again. A house divided cannot stand. We need to get back to rationally and calmly discussing our disagreements and trying to reach solutions that satisfy both. We would be so much better off if we got back to that!

My mom was a Democrat and my dad was a Republican. They aregued over plenty of things. Politics were not something I remember hearing them get heated about.
Politics has always been a hot button issue.

Reality to them is what's on CNN,MSNBC,CBS, Disney, Paramount, Netflix,Fox and the list goes on. And these companies are all owned by the same corporations they claim to "Hate".
People are following a "Team" and not even looking at what they stand for. Or who is financially supporting them.
The issues are simply ignorance of reality. I have had people tell me "Trump destroyed our country" but when I ask how, they cannot mention even one thing but begin calling me names for daring to ask a question. And if I ask them how Biden is doing? They always say great but cannot tell me one thing that he has done to better the country. And then they begin calling me names because they know little to nothing. Or they blame Trump, again without a single educated reason to back it.
We are in trouble.
