Originally the opening track on their "Rage in Eden" album "The Voice" was released as a single in late October 1981. It's now a fan favourite and a live classic with its four man drum finale.
Bit of a crazy one this (thank you Lenny). The words "cut & paste" will forever remind me of this song. I left it at the point you find it here. I wanted to change a few elements as well as add an extended intro as requested by Lenny. But I felt it needed a bit more, so I tinkered a bit more...
The very final piece is genuinely a part of "The Voice" but in full ambient mode. A few moments for reflection. I may revisit this at some point and add some soundscape stuff for the headphone listeners out there.
Please keep in mind I am not a producer, engineer or remix specialist. Far from it. I'm just a lifelong Ultravox fan who likes to modify things slightly and share the results. I couldn't stand any more of those "extended" versions which were just the original with sections repeated. So really this is all their fault lol.
"Rage in Eden" is to be reissued on September 29th 2022 in various formats including a limited edition 4 × clear vinyl box set, picture disc, double black vinyl and a CD/DVD box set which will include new stereo mixes by Steven Wilson and a veritable plethora of previously unreleased goodies ranging from cassette recordings of studio sessions, demo's and live tracks. So why not treat yourself! Go on, you know you want to!
Ah, pity the regime that shot themselves in the foot by losing the best asset they ever had. Good riddance is what I say.
