Sumi Jo has always seemed to me to emote pure, unadulterated, stinging emotion into her vocalisations. Her passion, channeled from her heart to her voice is visceral! I feel her strong Korean voice is one of the best. She is not only power though, but constitutes the epitomy of a great singer. She has flawless technique and power and subtlety throughout her entire dynamic range, expressing a whisper soft note or a crushing, soaring one. Her nuanced delivery is always enchanting. Brava Sumi!

I want to claim that in this concert sumi was caught by a cold and she thought of canceling the concert... she sang this incredibly abstruse aria well even she wasn't in her best condition
You can't - it's nothing personal, nobody else can sing like Sumi Jo. She is unique - beautiful, cute and blessed with an angelic voice which has taken years of hard work, dedication and sheer talent to perfect. And it is perfect .....
May be it sumi Jo for you may be it is diana damrau for him may be it is sabine Devieihle for her or edita gruberova for me or natalie dessay for them it is a matter of preference you can not talk in general as tho she is the best because no one have the same pov and opinions as urs
Someboby called heavenly sound. Her voice is so clear. This beautiful music I'm listening to now is so amazing. As if time has stopped, I'm just fascinated by one note. She is an amazing Cololatura soprano. She is a beautiful colloratura. So her song is like an angel's lullaby.
Her voice is so unreal, so beautiful and pure. As someone mentioned below, she seems little tensed in this video though. I don't know how she always sings those difficult arias perfect and effortlessly. Bravo!

She's very intelligent--no cues, no cheat-cheat, everything's in her head. She plays and sings the part. Moreover, she looks stunning in this concert, nice gowns this time ;-) Imagine singing back-to-back mad scene arias? That's a pro!
It's beautiful! But I knew how beautiful her voice and she was as an opera singer when I was in her concert because of her manners, attitude, enthusiasm, love towards audience & her music. You should all experience that !
I Think Conductor Paolo Olmi does his best, having an orchestra not familiar with Opera.He is one of the more famous italian Opera conductor of our times....Sumi is simply phantastic!
Even though I can tell at that time her condition might not that good, her performance is definately wonderful. She is the one of greatest sopranos in the world!
Ah! Robert, how many times over the years have I bemoaned the fact that the poor medium of language cannot describe the glory that is Sumi Jo? My pathetic list of superlatives ran out two and half decades ago about five minutes after I first fell headlong into this wondrous voice. Many year later I found them to be lacking still when I saw Sumi on video and then again when I saw her live. Non of this prepared me for meeting her, truly the finest woman I shall ever hug.
What I love most about Sumi is the way that she uses her beautiful (but not limitless) voice. She doesn't seem to have a naturally rich voice, but she is able to make warm, round sounds. I love her.
She's gifted and unique. Nothing said below can change that. She's one of my favourites. Her performances at the Doll Song, the Flower Duet... she's certainly different to the others, but that fact just makes her even more incredible. Love her. Greetings.

Im no expert and found this by accident. But it inspired me to learn more and (IMHO) this is the most excellent and satisfying performance of Lucia's mad scene I have seen and (for me) I doubt it can be topped. I also enjoyed Southerland, Devia's, and Moffo's performances, but the smoothness and agility/range of Sumi Jo's voice completely won me over. She's magnificent! Its a shame I cant find this performance anywhere but here. If anyone can help me locate it, it would be appreciated.

저때 목상태가 안좋아서 공연취소를 하나마나 했는데 어쩜 저렇게 잘할까~ 흔들림없이 최선을 다해서 노래하는 모습이 넘넘 아름답네요~^^ 특히 마지막의 고음은 정말 조선백자 같이 맑고 청아하네요~
