Between The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters, Percy Jackson has had a really hard time on the big screen. With the announcement of a new Disney Plus show, it looks like the franchise's fortunes might finally change. Let's talk about it.

I want to see it succeed so we can see a Heroes Of Olympus series. I wanna see my boy Leo Valdez in love action!!!
That it stays faithful to the books
Frankly prefer they try their hand at the under land chronicles never understood why that never got a movie but hunger games did.
The Labyrinth! As long as it’s better than the one in Harry Potter
I guess I wanna see if the actor they cast for Percy can be rootable and likeable
I do hope they make it set in the 2000's (I read them in the early 2010's) because despite Riordan trying to make them not feel set in the day that they were published (so kids could connect later in time), I still think those aesthetics fit the story well.
And also the 2000s are coming back in trend in nostalgia that definitely would appeal to audiences with the 20 year trend cycle and how people who grew up during that era are now probably parents who can watch it with their kids!
tbf it doesn't really matter that much when they are set considering they can't really use Tech anyway due to it attracting monsters.
Me too
The image of tweenagers being terrified to use a pink flip phone is too good to pass up. But it would be an extra production cost to make sure no current cars or tech are in the background.
If they go that direction, I’d like to see The Lightning Thief set in 2005, since that’s the year the series, Percy and his friends made their debut.
I feel like A Series of Unfortunate Events is kind of the perfect template for what I want a series like this to be. Age-appropriate actors, direct author involvement, maybe not 100% book-accurate but hitting the important beats and expanding on certain characters, and just recreating the fun atmosphere.
So true! I think a huge part of it is that the people involved actually loved the series, and *wanted* to do it right, not just to make money and make it a success, but to make something fans would love. I mean, I'm not particularly a big fan of NPH but it was so obvious the entire time that he cared deeply about the project.
When the percy jackson show got announced a series of unfortunate events was the first thing that came to my mind!
Agreed. I felt the same about the Mysterious Benedict Society. I thought Disney did really well with that one so I’m very hopeful about the Percy Jackson series.
Agreed. Ik he gets a lot of slack for it but I think Patrick Warburton's Lemony Snicket is great
@@freddie5890 I *loved* his take on it. It's the exact cadence and attitude that the one in my head had.
I never really was a HP fan as a kid, Percy Jackson was much more my speed. I desperately need a good adaptation.
I desperately need a good adaptation.
Same
Facts
I'm both lol but watched and read HP before reading PJ and i watched the movie trailer but it sucks so i haven't watched the movies' yet. (I prefer PJ though)
HP Lovecraft?
@@jewelyJewels Harry potter, HP Lovecraft probably wouldn't get a childs attention, unless if they are into that.
I just hope this show doesn't get "disney channel-ified." The books may not be super complex, but they are emotional, cinematic, and heartfelt
Disney Channel have a lot of experience with book adaptations (many I didn't know were books), so I'm sort of hopeful.
Worried that they will pull a Hercules: Zero to Hero show?
@@briangoubeaux5360 if I'm remembering correctly in the Heroes of Olympus series they explain that Hercules was basically a dick
Yeah I want the main characters to be described to what they are in the books including the side characters that pop up later in the books
At least it will be better than the movies
Honestly one thing this already has going for it is I feel being episodic does already give it a lot more room to breath compared to the movies after that it’s really left up to the age old issue of execution
im a bit scared knowing that disney plus would most likely give the show only 6 episodes lasting 30 mins each. i dont think that would be enough time to develop seeing how most of the marvel shows were rushed to hell
@@tommyvasquez2708 see that in itself kinda depends just what exactly kind of model they’re going with for this series is it gonna be one book per season or are they doing a similar thing with what happened with a series of unfortunate events cause I’m realizing more and more there’s a couple different routes to go with tv series streaming with book adaptations
I always though it'd be a good short series when im reading it
And it also gives the first season a chance to incorporate more elements from The Lightning Thief that were left out in the film adaptation such as Echidna, the Chimera and the history of Thalia.
I still think an animated series would have been better. The way the characters look the way Riordan imagined them as and they don't need to worry about the actors aging too fast. If and when we get to Heroes of Olympus, its a 5 book series that takes place over the course of like a year. Plus animation has proven that they can do action scenes very very well which would be great to watch for PJO. Wishing the best for this series.
If it's animated, they could use the animation from the scene with the oracle prophecy (arguably the best scene in the film)
Yeah, I think unless they really have a really skilled creative team that's passionate about the books, the action is bound to look kinda goofy in live action. you got some 14-15 yr old kid in a bright orange summer camp t-shirt with a ballpoint pen that turns into a sword, fighting and beating Ares, God of War, who looks like a body building biker. Somehow it all worked in book form, but in a visual medium the action is going to be difficult to pull off.
Yeah, just because Harry Potter was live action, doesn't mean all YA fantasy novel adaptations have to be. Fantasy works best animated.
@@kingjelly52 the other option could be doing reverse harry Potter. Instead of dark and serious, make it campy and lighthearted. Like take those situation that could look silly on screen and run with that
@@kingjelly52 ive never thought about that
Definitely agree that they should cast relatively unknown actors for the main cast, but I think for some supporting roles they should cast well known actors
I agree. Chiron, Cronus, and a few of the gods like Poseidon and Dionysus should be well known actors but I want actual kids to play the, well, kids.
@@Hawkman728 people were suggesting to bring back logan lerman and alexandra doddario from the peter johnson movies as Poseidon and Athena, respectively. i think it would be an awesome nod to the history of the series and would definitely be welcomed by the fans!
@@harayaalirak4040 logan lerman still looks too young for Poseidon and too "pretty". I want someone gruffer.
I feel like this story should try to capture the feeling of percy and his friends going through some pretty rough timess and show that they don't get lucky often. Each of the main characters should have their own unique internal problems. (it doesnt have to be super complex but dont boil it down to something super simple) that's kinda what made the books relatable for me when I was younger.
I agree 100%
I just want the books in live action lol.
I'm still baffled that they're not making an animated adaptation of these books. An adventure story for middle-grade kids filled with action and crazy monsters? Feels purpose-built for a Disney cartoon. Plus we wouldn't have to worry about lackluster child actors or low-budget creature cgi
That's what I wanted, an anime or a cartoon
Probably because cartoons usually put a cap on their audience. They probably hope it can be a Harry Potter like sensation.
@@ethanjobson3879 Cartoons DON'T have to put a cap on their audience. Like can we shake the whole "cartoons are for kids" notion? You wouldn't want kids to watch NetFlix's Castlevania
@@EspeonMistress00 Like it or not, it's only very rarely cartoons get the same amount of viewers live action gets.
I read that Rick wanted it to be live action
I’m definitely hoping they can save it and be faithful to the books.
I really wish this does well, especially for the rest of the book series, like HOO which I believe contains one of the best YA books ever written (the house of hades) that is sadly not as popular as it deserves. The riordanverse was MADE for a TV show universe
I NEED HOO
House of Hades is top tier, and no one can convince me otherwise. It sucks that the fifth book (Blood of Olympus?) is such a disappointing conclusion, at least for me
I can't be the only one who was disappointed that there were no percy or annabeth pov in the last book..
@@mlgnerd13 Blood of Olympus was good, but it coming after what is in my opinion, Riordan's best work, set it up to feel lackluster no matter what.
@@abaxmanjr I agree that the high of HoH would make most things look weak in comparison, and that BoO isn't terrible. But the decision to spend nearly half the book on the Nico, Reyna, and Coach storyline was a mistake, and wrapping up the Giants in one chapter wasn't good either
I Defently Believe The percy jackson doesnt get the recognition and attention it deserves for being such a well written story and arc for a character. it sometimes over shadowed by other fantasies like Harry potter who got their success. I Defently believe if Disney plays by the books and the author himself is heavly involved in the direction of this show I believe disney can do justice for the percy jackson series. All it needs is great actors, great cgi, great writting, great character developement, great movie settings, and amazing memorable music and themes we'd rewatch the show to just listen to
i still think an animated show would have been a much better option. sure animating takes long and is expensive but it also removes a lot of other worries like the age of actors and cost of cg. im hopeful that this show at least delivers something more faithful to the books though that isnt exactly hard to do
I agree but we'll just have to see how it turns out. I'm hopeful but not holding my breath
It should be fine. Wasn’t a problem for MCU shows on Disney Plus or the Harry Potter movies.
@@ethanjobson3879
Both of those had insanely high budgets though and who knows how much they're giving PJO
@@mikemorro140 They already said it would the same if not more of the budget of the mandalorian!
@@fbsbbs2739
I honestly doubt that
I feel like an animated series would be way better. Get the studio that made Avatar/Legend of Korra, give them the books and give Riordan final approval. Imagine Avatar style fights with Percy Jackson's powers and monsters. They have so much experience with Water/Fire/Lightning bending and sword fights it only makes sense for me.
This is brilliant
This is what I’ve always said. Imagine Studio Mir doing the battles. Perfection.👌
@@HyperWolf
same like I remember being excited when the series was announced but wishing it was animated instead
@@mikemorro140 yeah. I’m still hopeful it’ll at least be good because of Rick Riordan’s involvement. But just the stuff that is able to be done with the physicality and the humor in animation would have been greater.
100% agree!
Percy Jackson and Heros of Olympus have the groundwork to be the most successful literary-based cinematic universe EVER. They need to shape up and create this.
thats a bit of a stretch
Have to disagree on this one. While I like the books, I don’t believe they can beat out the HP universe. And if they can make it work, the cosmere by Brandon Sanderson might actually be more successful once they adapt it, simply because it is aimed at an older audience
@@Skeletonrider04 They already beat out the HP universe in scope and fight scenes (imo), I'm sure it can translate well to the screen if given to someone competent. I've never read the Cosmere, so I wouldn't know about that.
I hope we have actual chemistry that naturally develops between Percy and Annabeth over the course of the five movies.
Loved these books as a kid. Number 1 thing I think the movies (at least the first one, only ever knew the 2nd existed cause of your video on it) got wrong, is that the books aren't action adventure stories. Well they are that, but they're not just that. They are in large part Mystery stories. Riordan was mainly a writer of adult detective/mystery novels before he got into YA/Middle grade, and he carried that over into Percy Jackson. Each book posed at least one major narrative question that was left mysterious till the end. Who stole Zeus' lightning bolt? Who poisoned the tree of Thalia? etc. that plus the classical greek story tropes are what elevated the books imo.
Actually, only the first book is a proper mystery novel. The "mystery" of who poisoned Thalia's tree that the second book brings up is answered less than halfway through the book, and it's the same culprit as the first book. The third book doesn't really have a mystery element at all. Don't get me wrong; I love these books, I'm not criticizing them for not being mystery novels, it's just that you are misinterpreting the actual genre of the books (which, FYI, is semi-parodical fantasy adventure with a side helping of character drama).
Percy Jackson was my childhood Harry Potter. A 6-8 episode series would be the perfect length for the books. We can actually get a good Percy/Annabeth story, and a great Clarris
I’d say 10 episodes a season for more time but as long as it’s better than the fucking movies I’m good😂😂
Love this book series. This could be a perfect adaptation. They could even make it to HOO
If they actually cast people who are fit for the roles and look like the characters and dont try to condense 5 books into 6 episodes
@@A.Mortem they won’t, it’s a book per season so the first season will be on the lightning thief and if the first season does well they’ll make 4 seasons on the remaining books
@@A.Mortem Bruh that's not how it works
@@bazel1494 you're right, its ridiculous of me to think they would condense several books into only 6 hours, I mean theres no historical data of a book franchise being crammed into a few hour period. Certainly no evidence of it happening to this same series
I doubt they would do HoO in live action as all 5 of those books take place in one year so actors would age too fast.
The fact that Riordan is actually a part of it makes me have much more hope
These books were promoted on Disney Channel
Percy Jackson is my jam when I was a teenager, the series basically is where I came to be quite fluent and comfortable with English and just like reading in general, it's basically my "Harry Potter" and I still have the original, it's sequel, and Egypt side story in my bookshelf. Honestly one of the best decision in my life is when I brought The Lighting Thief along when I had my first junior high trip.
Same for me. It's the first book series i read in Englisch and it helped me a lot in understanding the language.
I would love to see this show to have the quality and praise that the Marvel and Star Wars Disney Plus shows have and telling everyone that Disney Plus is not just Marvel and Star Wars. I would love Disney making high quality original or adapted series that aren't big brands to their service for more variety.
I’ve always thought that this series needed to be in a tv show format. In my opinion I think the best way to adapt this series to the screen would be with animation. Imagine a Percy Jackson animated series in the style of arcane. I think that style would be the best way to do the show. I am still excited for this new live action take though.
Honestly if there's 1 thing i want the series to absolutely nail, it's the sets. I want to see the cabins in glorious detail, i want to see Olympus, i want to see the Labyrinth, all faithful to the books. Really bring the world to life. It may sound strange to focus on that over, say, the casting or the script, but if they can nail the amazing settings of the books, i feel that would do *wonders* even if everything else was lacking
honestly just being faithful to the books is enough to save the series, the books are amazing and some scenes can be trascribed perfectly to film like the final fight with ares
there are enough Percy Jackson books for them to make an entire Disney + cinematic universe with them.
Especially considering AT LEAST one more book is in development after the already 18 + short story collection that exist currently (not counting kane chronicles because netflix bought that)
i saw someone say they want pjo in a mocumentary style with interviews and everything and now i cant stop thinking about how cool that would be, and very unique for a fantasy story
I feel as though if they stick the book, it could be Disney Plus’ Harry Potter level IP.
I would LOVE a Magnus Chase series in the future, I can only imagine what Jack's voice would be like, especially singing
If that happens, we can finally hear Jack actually singing, instead of just imagining it in our heads lol
especially alex
I hope the series is successful and they come to "Heroes of Olympus" in the future, Leo is one of my favorite characters
I would love an adaption similar to what they did with the new witcher series.
A cast that was or is invested into the characters and their nuances and Rick Riordan being heavily involved in writing the script could
potentially make a really good series. I would honestly love to dive into a deep nostalgia and revisit Percy Jackson as an adult :D
I was looking for news on this show just the other day! (was reading Julie and the Phantoms fanfic, found a remarkably good percy jackson crossover fic, got curious as to what rick riordan was working on, remembered that the was being planned) Great timing, and I'm super excited to see where this one goes
The golden rule of adapting a book or comic book is getting someone who is fan of the source material and understands it then let them be in charge of the adaptation..
Hollywood and a lot of other studios still don't understand this.
Hopefully it will be as big an improvement as HBO’s His Dark Materials over the Golden Compass movie! 🤞🤞🤞
For casting, have established actors as the gods and camp counselors while the kids are played by newcomers.
the rock as ares ur right 😁🤞🏼
I think I was waiting for this video without realizing I was waiting for it.
i re read the books a few months ago and the more i read, the more i thought, this is gonna be nearly impossible to put on screen in live action in a way that does this justice. the first 5 books pjo books might have a chance but once you reach heroes of olympus the locations just get insane
Man I would love to see a proper Camp Half-Blood. That setting is ripe for some inspired design and it's the place where I think the movies dropped the ball most.
I hope they do 1 book per season. Would work the best imo. I also hope they keep the ages of the characters (as in dont make them 16 or whatever they were.) they could also do a anthology series and i wouldn’t be mad. A clone wars style show with the Percy Jackson characters could be a good direction to take it.
I certainly I hope it’ll colorful. Both literally (orange tshirts) and figuratively!
I love how optimistically you think about this new series, while still being realistic and acknowledging the live action curse. This book series was basiaclly my entire childhood and the movies made me physically cringe in anger and pain lol. So your subtle shitting on of the films was much appreciated! Thank you sir, I salute you.
I _really_ hope Disney doesn’t kiddify PJO like they did with Artemis Fowl. People die in the books. Traumatically. Giving Rick a seat on the table gives me hope, but creative control only lasts as long as the big mouse says it should.
What they turned Artemis Fowl into is a giant red flag that most fans are overlooking.
Rick Riordan himself is on the writing team, so as far as writing goes, I’m pretty confident. Having the author of the books write the show, with the help of some other people who know the medium is the best writing team an adaptation could ever have
soooo this video came up now, and we're only 6 out of the total 8 episodes in, but i do think this show has sticked the landing and managed to get a renewal for at least two more seasons, and i'm glad. the pacing is kinda all over the place, and the fight scenes are a bit underwhelming, but it's a huge improvement, and even if i'm not the target demographic i'm still enjoying it quite a bit. i surely can't wait for your video on it!
My biggest want that wasn't included in your video, is the proper depiction of the gods. Riordan has the really cool way of showing how similar and fallible the gods are to us, while still showing how foreign they can be.
Literally just make the books. Word for word. add stuff if you need too. Worked for a series of unfortunate events.
i’m just praying this show goes on long enough to also do the heroes of olympus books!!! I need my bb leo
also praying the kids are young and newcomers
Of course they have got to adapt the beach fight. Super important they get that right. I'd also like to see them introduce the Di Angelo siblings in a thematically interesting way. I think above all else, I just want it to treat the audience maturely like A Series of Unfortunate Events did.
Huh, 12 hours ago I got your previous Percy Jackson videos in my recommended and after 8 months you now upload the next video on it, what a coinkydink
I hope that you're still feeling better. I never actually saw the two movies, but I do remember being really surprised with Luke's betrayal at the end of the first book. I forget how old I was when I read it, but it was a pretty effective twist given that he seemed more like the friendly slightly older mentor for Percy. Making that betrayal effective would definitely be key. Giving the character more time just to interact and develop their friendships so that there's more emotional investment once the big events happen would also really help the series in the long run.
Good casting a good budget and FOLLOWING THE DAMN BOOKS, would be a pretty damn good starting point, either way the hype is real, read these books back in middle school and being 22 now I still go back and read them
Honestly the thing I wanted most from this adaptation was for it to be animated. I’m not a huge fan of child acting but I’m also not into the idea of ageing up the characters. Now that we know that’s not going to be the case I’m already setting my expectations low. That said I really hope it’s a great show.
Walker Scobell just got cast as Percy today!
I'm hyped!!
Long time follower/fan. I would love to see you cover Ben 10, specifically the difference between Ben as a child and as a teenager. It’s a show franchise that holds up really well and is surprisingly original. Ben’s grandfather is super wise and the relationship between the team and Kevin throughout the shows is really interesting. I’m not great at the video essay thing otherwise I would do it myself. Would love to hear your thoughts
I want to see this show succeed so we can see a Heroes Of Olympus series. I wanna see my boy Leo Valdez in love action!!!
Agreed. Then we can get the Kane Chronicles, The Magnus Chase books and then The Trials of Apollo.
@@chasehedges6775 Netflix has the rights to Kane Chronicles

I honestly can’t wait, The Last Olympian was my favorite 🤩 the 3rd book was fire as well
I wonder if they’ll do 2 seasons per book, one of the things I liked when I read the books as a child was that they got longer and more expansive. Also if we get to The Battle of the Labyrinth I feel like that season should be terrifying.
Future Avatar and Percy Jackson projects coming up I’m soooo excited 😊
I just want to see a young cast grow, book accurate, and one thing I hope for is good choreography and CG but since they have that Disney money I'm not too worried. I hope it's good enough and long lasting to hit the Heroes of Olympus stories.
This is one of my favorite book series ever made so I'm really hopeful. I just hope we see them do the story right and FOLLOW THE BOOKS. Don't do a Artemis fowl please, loved that book series too
all i can hope is that the production team has a lot of fun with the production design of the sets and creatures on the series, at least thats what i cought myself thinking the most when i read the books: how much fun i would have giving shape to this world if i had the chance
Riordan actually being involved & excited as well as the co-creator of Flight of the Conchords (possibly one of the most underrated shows ever & my intro to Taika Waititi) has me really hopeful. Obvs I'm not expecting an award worthy drama, but I feel like Percy has the ability to be the "Buffy" of this generation. A YA episodic fantasy show that fully understands what it is, charming and just enough depth to have some real gravitas.
Well if you want to give these ideas a warm home I have some to offer.
I’m assuming it is a multi episode series and not another movie.
1) set the beginning in NYC. Save the private school for books 2 & 3. I’d use the set up to introduce Luke before camp. (Maybe he’s the one to drive Grover into the City to watch Percy)
2) Give Luke some means to pull off the theft and frame Percy for it.I get the plot device. For kids Percy’s age nothing is more unfair than being blamed for something you didn’t do. But the book forgot to explain how. The gods just blame Percy even though there is a camp full of kids who could pull the same thing. Make this a real investigation. Like Nemesis interviews all the campers, turns out all the bunks and find evidence in Percy cabin. Luke stashed it there because no one occupies until Percy that day. Nothing malicious but nothing he’s going to cop to either.
3) Focus on Percy disappointment with Poseidon. He’s never known his dad finds out he’s a big deal and very close but he refused to show. That should really be devastating not just a point between capture the flag and the campfire.
4) Do a road map Indiana Jones style
Hey man I love your videos! No idea if you've read the series or not but if you have I'd love to hear your thoughts on the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Jeff Smith's Bone. And if you haven't read Bone yet, man you are missing out on one of the best comics of our generation, go read it!
Justice for hades, who from the books is the first God percy met that actually looked like a Greek God and made percy feel like kneeling and worshipping. Mind you this is after he's already met mr.D and ares.
I hate how the movies completely disrespected him and persephone relationship too
I agree with the statement about giving the characters ”room to breathe.” There’s just so much that goes into each book that even 2 hours probably isn’t enough to show all of it.
Personally, I would like to see Annabeth's arachnophobia explored like it was in the first book. I always found it a very important part of her character, and was really bummed that it was never brought up in the movies or the lightning thief comic. (The comic was a great adaptation overall, just to clarify. I just wanted to see more moments from the book in it.)
i hope they do a animated style. not only would it look better but it would also be good way to explore the more mystical parts of the book. shows like invincible shows that something like that would work and can be popular
My sister was a HUGE Rick Riordan fan! She's read EVERY ONE of his books!
So... I come from the future, when we have just gotten the first two episodes of the series. The good news: it's got good shots, a great, concise intro, the music is good (if not particularly apt to every scene it overlays), and the sets look brilliant. There are also some great spurts of comedy that I find excellent. The child actors are actually the best part, with Walker Scobell bringing far and away the most charm and competency as Percy, and Leah and Aryan personifying Annabeth and Grover very well. But, strangely, the adult actors are not as good... at all. There's some weird direction going on where they all look like they forgot their lines and started adlibbing (and not in the clever comedic way). Sally is the worst offender, but at least she's only in one episode. And besides the line delivery, some of the minor changes feel like they were mainly made for the sake of change, and not because they make more sense or are better for the pace of the show (some of them really do damage the pacing).
However, despite my gripes, I'm definitely going to be watching week by week, since most of the cast that I have problems with won't be around for the majority of the story, and the excellently-cast main trio will be. I have hopes that the quality will climb over the course of the show, as our trio develops together.
Funny enough, more than anything, this show has reminded me how extremely well The Lightning Thief book holds up. It's actually masterful
Please for the love of god make this series Animated. Not only will it look visually distinct and colorful, but it’ll lessen the issue of the kids growing up through the books. XD
I wish the show was animated, if for no other reason than to let the writers and artists who made Hades work on it.😍
I think something they should really do is make the gods look less like just big people in cheap cosplay. Add a faint glow, make them slightly translucent, maybe a ting of a non-human color and some warbled voices when they're in more divine forms, something to make them seem otherworldly. Actually, add some saturation and color too. It's a energetic series and deserves a visual style to match.
I’m totally onboard, it’s impossible the series will be worse than the movies were. Now all I want is a reboot of Eragon, either as a series or a fresh movie franchise.
This and Narnia should be slam dunks for adaptation.
Oh yes! Finally we have a chance at getting an accurate PJ adaptation!😍I dearly dearly hope they’ll include the scene after the fight in the Gateway Arch, when Percy is sinking into the Missisippi river. That’s one of his lowpoints in the first book, and it’s honestly so human. He feels like he can’t do this, he feels he has failed and so on, but he picks himself up again when Poseidon let’s him know that he believes in him. Percy then swims to the surfice and keeps on fighting. That’s Percy, he doesn’t give up, he’s selfless and brave. That’s what I wanna see in this Disney+ show.
I really really wanted the movies to succeed, because the productions seemed neat (including spending quite a lot on real sets)
I hope that the 'Gone' book series gets a TV show adaptation. I was far too young for those books but I LOVED them
Casting can have a huge impact especially at such a young age, but book to screen adaptations which follow the book closely usually do well because it clearly already sells. I don’t know where these directors get the idea that they know better than the creator of the story
I think this is a great chance for Riordan to do as Invincible did and improve on his own work with the benefit of hindsight
Now that it’s in post production in my time, I’d like to say that it seems to be going to be amazing with what they’ve shown and what the actors, author, and the studio have said
While there was quite a bit cut from the book for the movie (lightning thief) I DID enjoy the whole "solid trident" that Percy created from water in the movie... Which oddly I don't remember from the books. It was the one memory I have from the movie that really :"stood out". But it really did need the whole "battle with Aries", because of the flaming motorcycle(who doesn't like flaming motorcycles?) and because it was kinda epic.(plus it kinda set-up meeting Aries' daughter in the second book and her initial hostility toward Percy... That is, IF the daughter of the literal embodiment of war needs a "reason" to be hostile to anybody. )
something that could be used for a second series would be the hoo(heros of olympus) or maybe a spin off series with the kanes? id like to see how reyna might act with jason and percy sorta just getting taken away from her, especially jason.
i also hope they dont do annabeth dirty like they did in the first film
Literally just got into this series finally just last month, it’s pretty interesting and I’m sad I didn’t get into it years back.
Man, this video makes me want to read the books again. I started reading them in middle school in 2008 and they were such wonderful books! I wonder if they're as good as I remember them being.
Percy Jackson is 5 books, each book should be its own season, and I actually think if they cast the actors to grow with the seasons like the Characters aged with the books, it could genuinely be fun. Now everyone know Percy Jackson, but Rick Riordans entire world with all his book series is so much better. The Kane Chronicles, the Magnus Chase books, are by far his best books, because theyre indeed older, but still got the flair that he gave Percy Jackson books. So even tho it would be much longer, I want Riordans world to be adapted.
Edit- ok and I forgot to add, I ACTUALLY think the reason a show is being made is to build Riordans world, and finish it. Like anyone who has read all his books know they're in the same universe, and the characters from different series meet and are part of a big picture, and Riordan never made the big epic cross over that seemed to be hinted in his books all those years. I don't know if he has the intention to do such a thing, but oh my god would it be cool as hell, and Riordan would be the one who'd make it good for sure.
I personally hope at least it's adapted well since a lot of important moments of characters and twist what makes the series memorable, and if done well I hope it gets good enough for a 3rd season since the 3rd book is my most favorite since it took a different direction that I wasn't expecting.
I absolutely love that Percy Jackson is gonna be a series. There’s way too much happening for it to fit into a movie and that way we can get everything we want to and need to see. I have no doubt that it’s gonna be amazing from the actors to the music to the Animation and script.
It’s not a animation it’s live action
I heard that Jason Mantzoukas aka the guy who played Pimento was recently cast as Dionysus
Perc Jackson is my favorite YA Protag
You know atleast there is hope that this would turn out great, because Rick Riodan sounds happy with it, but you gotta feel bad for the ATLA because Netflix is fucking them over again.
I'm kind of hyped for the series. But also, if the series is good, there's room to hope for Rick's other series. While Hereos of Olympus would be awesome to see and the obvious choice to continue the saga, I would also love to see a shot at the Kane Chronicles.
Yeah I was gonna say, the biggest thing would be to capture the funny playful goofy voice of author that’s so charming in the books. And be episodic and spacious-kind of like how the last air bender is
I just want to see Percy Jackson be a badass demigod. Can’t be too hard, man.
Was absolutely waiting for this video
I always think YA novels are better adapted into TV shows, not only since each chapter can be an episode, but also because it gives the characters time to grow and develop with each other.
I really hope they do adapt the Percy versus Ares fight because you already make it sound so epic I'm shocked and mad that it wasn't included in the film..
Ofc they will since it’s following the book this time
There is so much potential for this to be an MCU level franchise, especially with the Crossovers the books have with their Roman and Egyptian counterparts (and even more maybe, I know he wrote a series about Norse Mythology too, Idk if it crosses over though). Especially with the civil war between the greek and roman camps.
Magnus is Annabeth's cousin and they met with Percy once
I hope they get an actor for Percy who has read the books and understands Percy and his personality
