  • Responding to Pride Month | Fr. Jacob-Bertrand Janczyk & Fr. Patrick Briscoe
How should Catholics respond to pride month? Where does truth, charity, and the Gospel come into it all? What does pride month even mean? Should Catholics accept it, or can we be angry? Can we take back the month?
On this week's episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Jacob-Bertrand and Fr. Patrick discuss the moral issues of sexuality, identity, gender, true marriage, desires, tolerance, and more.

“Seldom affirm, never deny, always distinguish.” Sound familiar? A couple of reactions. It’s important to remember that not all Christian theologies conclude the same about human sexuality. These priests are qualified to present what Catholic theology and tradition have to say and what Catholics are expected to believe. Unfortunately, what is missing in their discussion is the consideration of how sexuality is embodied in different ways by different people in their relational lives. It would have been refreshing to have them address the lives of those GLBTG people who have remained in loving, committed, partnerships and marriages for decades. And, who have Jesus in the center of their lives. And, who participate in faith communities. And who actively do the best to love God and neighbor as oneself. Would these preachers choose to be in friendship with such individuals and couples to hear of the love experienced in these relationships, which nurture and evidence compassion towards others. It might help them get out of their heads, which is not the best place to be most of the time, for most of us. Finally, Pride Month. It’s not just about some people, mostly naked, dancing seductively in front of children. It’s not even necessarily about pride in being gay, any more than having to be proud about being straight. We are who we are, and some of us would say we were created to be. The pride that many of us share and celebrate in June is that we chose in our lives to serve others. We took part in helping projects as students, went to our churches, wiped bottoms as nurses and caretakers, treated physical ailments as doctors, taught the children, yes, did hair and arranged flowers too, worked in soup kitchens, raised money for the needy, and even presided at the altar. We did this as Jesus commanded. The Sermon on the Mount says it all. We did this in spite of getting bullied, beaten up, condemned, condescended too, called perverse and unnatural. We persevered in love and for that we can hold some pride.

more ecxcellence with truth ?If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. Let’s look at some basic fundamental facts based on extensive research & ongoing R&D. During fetal development a verity of biochemical agents are introduced which determine the total development of the fetus. Major agents such as testosterone & estrogen & a host of others agents determine size, weight, hair color, eye color & sexuality along with a host of other traits. Variations in the amount & timing of the introduction of these agents have a major effect in our development. The fetus is a passive participant & has no influence in these matters. Sexuality, for example, & all other secondary traits are thus given to us. Well, this begs the question, is homosexuality a sin. If your religion or belief system states that it is, then there can be no argument. These are the rules based on this system’s dogma. If you accept this system, you must accept the rules. This is your only choice which is condemnation.
If, however, you are in a belief system based on logic, reason, observation & common sense, & no reliance on spirituality, the conclusion is totally different. Replacing ancient religion & mythology with reason leads to another conclusion. Leaving religions that use condemnation & ridicule for control, can be the first step in becoming a true human being minus any imposed or fabricated guilt. There exist many variations of human sexual expression. When you leave various ancient religious beliefs behind & chose knowledge based in research, you can see & understand the true nature of humanity. You leave ignorance, hatred, & prejudice behind. In the book Gay Straight & the Reason Why by Simon Levay PhD, explanations regarding this aspect of humanity are clearly explained & is based on research. While I am not gay, I highly recommend this book. Being gay is no more of a sin than having red hair. They are both based on genetics & clearly not a sin. There is nothing wrong with you. This is the true choice. Peace

And hence...hippiechick...the whole problem with this stuff. It is rigorously promoted, targeted (your daughter is example A), and jammed down our throats at every turn....in stores, on TV, radio, at sporting events. For someone like myself who is a traditional Catholic, it makes me sick. I'm walking around Stop and Shop, a supermarket in my area, bemoaning the price of the groceries I am getting, and I have to listen to the pride announcements over the store loudspeaker while I am being raped at the register. Ridiculous.

Don't engage? Passive resistance? Those are the kind of buzzwords the enemy loves to hear and it's the kind of approach that got us into our current mess in the first place. I love my parish but we had one priest who used to speak out against this wickedness and now he's gone. Whether one thing had to do with the other I can't say but he left the priesthood and as far as I know nobody has heard from him since.
In 2017, just prior to the inauguration, a whole group of LGBT activists showed up at VP Mike Pence's home and put on vulgar displays for the entire neighborhood to witness. A reporter asked a quarter dressed man why he was engaging in such lude behavior and he said he was doing it because Mike Pence and his entire neighborhood needed to see it. The reporter then asked him why they needed to see it and the man simply said; "they just do." That is evil for evil sake. No rational reason behind it. Just a demonic spirit at work inspiring a movement that is antithetical to God and God's creation.
They may feel they are just lashing out, having a bit of fun, but Satan doesn't see it as fun and games. This is spiritual warfare. That needs to be acknowledged and kissing the boo-boo of people engaged in mortal sin is not compassion. I'm not saying we should hate anyone, or get angry, but taking the libertarian position "You do you and I'll do me" is exactly what the enemy wants from us. The truth of the matter is the woke agenda or whatever you want to call it is a religion for a lot of people who reject God but still want to be a part of something larger than themselves. They have high priests and priestesses and at it's core is a doctrine of secular humanism with a heavy focus on hedonism and pagan rituals and festivals, like pride month. And the disciples of that religion are far more energized, far more zealous about evangelizing than we are. Normative behavior and basic rules of civility, the guardrails that once kept people's passions in check, have been removed. People in positions of power, instead of acting as good stewards support and promote the cause, treating it as the new state religion. That is not some rant, just an acknowledgement of the world of the way things are.
Like I say, I'm not calling for us to meet hatred with hatred or rage with rage, but passive resistance, especially on the part of of Church leaders? Well we've tried that haven't we. Not only do we have to not live the lie, we have to call it out for what it is in a peaceful way now before it escalates to the point where passions are inflamed beyond control on all sides. The problem requires leadership and for Church leaders it's not a choice, it's a requirement.
“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you realize that we will be judged more strictly" ― James 3: 1
“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the Lord” ― Jeremiah 23:1

Pence did need to see it.
People like you (and Pence) need to see it. The people who believe as you do- they created pride. You did. Own it.
LGBT has been disowned, denied, dishonored, and y’all tried to destroy us. You sent us to conversion therapy. Y’all tried violence. You tried legislation. You tried to banish us. You harass us. You rape, beat, or murder us. You deny us. You lie about us. You weaponize parts of the Bible you don’t understand to use against us. Y’all have arrested us. Y’all have done everything you possibly can to hold us back.
You created gay pride. What did you think would happen?
LGBT isn’t ashamed to be authentic. We are who we are. You can’t hurt us- the more we come out, the safer we are. The more we come out, the more rights we have. The more we come out, the more queer kid lives we save.
You created that. Your thinking created that. The longer and harder you push against us, the stronger we become.
We have representation now. We have allies. I won’t put up with this.
So, the next time you see a gay person- make sure you look. Have a good long look. You created the moment that person came out.
      Own it.

🚨Ten reasons why matrimony itself proves that being a homosexual is in fact a sin⬇️
1️⃣What did our Father say in reference to matrimony❓
🕊️”Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
2️⃣Did Jesus reaffirm our Father’s view on matrimony❓
🕊️”He answered, “Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’?” Matthew 19:4-5
3️⃣Did the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles reaffirm our Father’ & Jesus’ view on matrimony❓
🕊️“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” Ephesians 5:31
4️⃣Is Jesus’ example of love separate from an individual’s immorality❓
🔥”And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is fitting among saints.” Ephesians 5:2-3
5️⃣Do the works of the flesh pertain to immorality❓
🔥“Now the works of the flesh are plain: immorality, impurity, licentiousness,” Galatians 5:19
6️⃣How does immorality pertain to sex specifically❓
🕊️“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like heathens who do not know God;” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
    7️⃣Why should we avoid immorality❓
🔥”Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18
8️⃣Under what condition is immorality permitted❓
🕊️”But because of the temptation to immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:2
9️⃣Is immorality outside of matrimony idolatry❓
🔥”Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” Colossians 3:5
🔟Were we warned about certain people who would gain admission to our Father’s church and pervert the grace of our Father into licentiousness❓
🔥“Beloved, being very eager to write to you of our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly persons who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels that did not keep their own position but left their proper dwelling have been kept by him in eternal chains in the deepest darkness until the judgment of the great day; just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Yet in like manner these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones.” Jude 1:3-8
In conclusion to homosexuality, not only can we conclude that our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles clarify matrimony between heterosexuals but further stated that immorality was only permitted through heterosexual matrimony. If immorality is only acceptable between heterosexuals then by default, immorality & matrimony between homosexuals is not only sinful but contradicts our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles.
Even though we know more now about sexual orientations, who will dare claim our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles knew less if they know past, present and future❓

As a heterosexual man I “struggle with my sexuality.” My problem is lust and the desire for fornication outside of marriage. It’s tough. That being said I can’t imagine believing such acts to be a good thing especially under a slogan such as “pride”

The key to understanding all forms of addiction are self destructive even while seeming pleasurable.
Fornication is just like Heroin Addiction, triggering the same brain regions for pleasure. Remind yourself no matter how wonderful the feelings of Heroin, Crack, Speed, Cocaine, or fornication... Such selfish behaviors are self destructive and harmful to yourself and others. The ROOT cause is delusional thinking : you can not create good outcomes by causing harm.

Better to be a born again Christian.
      1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
      Romans 1:26-28
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

will subscribe to knowledge ?If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification.
@Quint-ib4nfNo, it wasn’t a mistake. God doesn’t make mistakes. Man had become so evil that he wiped them out and started over again with the people who loved him.Loving God means following his commandments. “When the LORD saw how great the wickedness of human beings was on earth, and how every desire that their heart conceived was always nothing but evil “(Gen. 6:5). God is loving and merciful, but he is also just. In the context of the story of Noah and the flood, the fact that a loving and merciful God thought that the only just thing to do would be to flood the Earth reveals just how wickedly sinful and evil humanity had become. It scares me because of how many people are committing such heinous sins these days and calling them good. The next time he wipes us out will be with fire, it may be that we do it to each other.
Jewish tradition relays that murder and bloodshed were common in Noah’s time, and no one cared for his neighbor. God was mocked as unneeded, given the greatness humanity had achieved. This time period is portrayed as a moral wasteland in which Noah, as shaky as he was in both morals and faith, was considered the most righteous of his generation. Without the flood, it is said that humanity would have destroyed itself on its own and that the flood was the chance for any human person with any goodness to start over and save the human race.
However, Jewish tradition does not portray God as uncaring. It reveals that God instructed Noah to build the Ark slowly. This was meant as a last warning and chance for repentance and mercy. Everyone had a chance to repent and enter the Ark. In fact, certain strains of interpretation have understood the flood as the result of God’s tears over the heartlessness of the human race. We all need to remember this story, and that God will not hold off his punishment forever.

In many municipalities it is now required by law to be not only tolerant, but affirming. These laws apply to government and non-government agencies alike. Teachers, social workers, foster-parents, and other public servants are being forced to affirm positions which they find contrary to their personal or religious beliefs. The alternative is to no longer service their community, which seems equally contrary to religious belief.

22:45 Yes, yes, yes! The transformation of anger into hatred is a significant issue. When anger is expressed as hate, whether in public spaces or from the pulpit, it closes off any opportunity for the consideration of the Truth. This kind of expression fosters a preference for relativism, and in some ways, we have inadvertently contributed to the promotion of relativism by engaging with others through our own egos and unholy righteousness. We must remember that the Truth is grounded in love and should lead people to God, not push them further away. Just as Jesus invited conversion through love, it is our responsibility to do the same. We should strive to be examples of charity in what we say about the Truth and in how we express the Truth so it is not mistaken as hatred. Instead express Truth with charity, compassion, and understanding, as Christ does for all of us. Begin with love, then the Truth will win out.

The word is "conversing" -- where on Earth are these educated people getting the word "conversating " - is this a new word? I do realize and hear daily supposedly educated Americans on media or using wrong grammar consistently and now made up words wonderful!! 🥴
I find a lot of conversations with young priests as much as I respect them as humans wishy-washy watered down unconvincing -- so I'm not in judgment why should I be but but most of what I'm hearing from priests on online forums is kind of a sellout the real charism and rationale for those few few few few few few few folks were called to the celibate life is not delineated convincingly ever like in the olden days
It feels to me like they really just pasteurized themselves in the worldly ways and there's really no turning back to a real charism of monasticism having come from Eastern monasticism as in Asian Eastern philosophy of monasticism which is serious and cultivated! I never had to deal with scandals in that kind of teaching where I was growing up over the years
I'm 66 years of age an American of Indian descent so a lot of what this priesthood has become in my last three years of observation and encounters in Catholic Mass and so forth - watered down and juvenile which is very very disappointing I don't know why these priests bother being monastics and taking vows when they don't live it😥
I'm not talking about serious scandal behavior I'm talking about regular day-to-day behavior they might as well be "lay" people I have lost some respect / trust for this Catholic priest role which is very unfortunate - at least for me with extremely high standards for any role that involves monasticism.
But here in the American Catholic culture I am disappointed and disheartened almost daily.
My connection is with Jesus Christ and I will keep focusing on Him Is all I can say ! 🙏💜🌄✝️ Patriarchal religion especially post Vatican II is going in a downward moral and worldly spiral esp in America.

Better to be a born again Christian.
1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
1 Corinthians 10:4 “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
1 Samuel 2:2 “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
Mark 7:7. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
1 Timothy 4:3 “Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”
2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
      1Ti 3:2 - A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
      Tit 1:7 - For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God;
Rev 3:16 - So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

how about knowledge ?? If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification.
Peace

honestly, if catholics did show some passion and anger and actually expressed how they really feel (as Fr. Patrick did at around the 20:40 mark), it would be *so* much easier to have real conversations with them. I say this as a queer man who celebrates pride month. interesting comments on hatred. I am wondering if we look at Ps 139, can we see another side to hatred of persons. Perfect hatred. This is what David says about his enemies. Maybe perfect hatred is a kind of passionate love. To love what is good and true, to hate what is evil and false within yourself but even within what constitutes someone. To love what God made in them, and hate the sin and falsities in them.
You see I am trying to spiritualize hatred here but I think it is very biblical especially if we want to understand the OT. In the way that Moses has the levites kill the idol worshipers but then deeply pleads with God to kill himself to atone for the Israelites sins; we see just how deep Moses love for his people is.

@@dan69052I must disagree with you. The sin of homosexuality is just like any other mortal sin, it leads you to hell. The Catholic faith is the most logical and reasonable church because it is the true Church of Jesus Christ, which he founded for our salvation. He knows all things, so who could be more logical or reasonable. God says homosexuality is an abomination, not us. We can only have eternal life in Heaven if we follow God’s laws, not our own rules made up by ourselves and what we think or believe. If we ignore God’s laws we can end up eternally in Hell. I don’t know about you, but I’m not willing to take that chance. Sex, in God’s intention, is meant to do two things: provide for the procreation of children and build up husbands and wives in the love, respect, and life of each other. The sins of adultery, fornication, and masturbation are under the same rules. We must all control our desires and remain chaste, before, during and after marriage or if we’re called to be single people, we are all called to chaste. Since God made human sexuality for the unitive and procreative ends of marriage, any other use is sinful. This is why homosexuality is wrong as there cannot be any procreation of children in that act. I guess there could be some unitive in it, but it is a disordered unity before God. For masturbation, there is neither the procreative nor the unitive part of the act, because it’s a purely selfish act. You do it alone or for your own pleasure. Fornication is a disordered use of sex because it is purely for self-satisfaction, and it abuses the person that God made for love, not usury. There are much better explanations out there, I’m sure. I suggest looking up Fr. Mike Schmidtz’s talk called ‘Love and Homosexuality,’ and go to Catholic Answers and find David Morrison’s article called, ‘Out of the Closet and into Chastity.’ There are many more articles and answers on there, too. May God open your eyes to the life he planned for you, one of grace and happiness doing his will.🙏🏻❤🙏🏻

I do not condone what any priest has done that has hurt children, but it is not the norm for priests to behaved that way. In fact, there are more people in the secular world, i.e., teachers, scoutmasters, and others in near proximity to children, that abuse children. And, other clergy don’t get off the hook either, they have also abused children. It’s abominable for anyone to do, but Catholic priests are actually less likely to abuse children than those. The Catholic Church is not alone in this, and should not be made to feel so. The MSM did a bad thing making it out to be priests alone. All people need to look to God and follow his commandments. I do not see these two breaking any commandments, so why put it on them? And if you don’t believe me, take a look at the secular online publication ‘Psychology Today.’ There are a few articles there telling us the percentage of priests, other clergy, and secular people that have committed this crime. It is definitely not restricted to Catholic priests, nor our they the majority!

@@suew4609 "but it is not the norm for priests to behaved that way" I stopped reading right there. Why? Because the issue wasn't the actions of the priests. Things happen. There's always a few bad apples
The issue was the church knowingly, willingly, and systemically covered up the incidences, did not report to law enforcement, buried the evidence, continued to employ the offenders, and moved the offenders to new areas (allowing them to offend again). Additionally, the church continues to fight again lawsuits seeking reparations & disclosure
This issue was mentioned back in 1531 by Luther. An issue existing for 493 years indicates the issue is not an issue, it is a feature. It is an actively chosen and supported position. Given the duration and extent of this behavior, claiming: "The Church actively endorses and fully supports this conduct & this behavior constitutes a core tenet of the institution" would be a fair statement.
So yes. Associating with this institution makes you morally inferior in every respect & I wont tolerate getting lectured by someone who is my moral inferior by every metric and criteria.

They suffer and struggle because of the societal hatred that has been baked into the collective consciousness by people like this pair and what they believe to be “objective truth.” It’s very easy to be charitable towards people with like minds, values and morals, but all people are not the same. One’s sexual identity and the expression of that identity cannot be separated from their personhood. People are who they are and they love who they love. Is an LBGTQIA person’s love less than because it doesn’t conform to another’s objective truth” Truth is not and never has been objective. My truth is not necessarily another’s truth. True charity accepts people as they are, not who we wish them to be. LGBTQIA people do not see themselves as objectively disordered. They simply want to be accepted and loved for who they are as people.

Hello, Father Jacob-Bertrand, Father Patrick. I'm a 63-year-old practicing gay Catholic man (Mass every morning). And I have a couple of serious points of dissonance with you here.
    1) I was fortunate enough to have been taught at Yale by Professor John Boswell (only 13 years older than I was, he was already a full professor at that time). A philologist, he spoke or read - wait for it - several Scandinavian languages, Old Icelandic, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek, early and modern Russian, Old Church Slavonic, Armenian, Persian, Arabic, Hebrew, Syriac, and Akkadian. In other words, this was one breathtakingly smart man.
In 1980 he published "Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality", and I'll quote what George Chauncey (still Professor of History at Columbia today), said in response to that work, that it "offered a revolutionary interpretation of the Western tradition, arguing that the Roman Catholic Church had not condemned gay people throughout its history, but rather, at least until the twelfth century, had alternately evinced no special concern about homosexuality or actually celebrated love between men."
And how did John Boswell prove that? Because he had read EVERY extant document in its original language and needed no interpretation from anyone else. So your "take" on this matter is misleading at best, definitely unhistorical, and quite simply devoid of any real scholarship, especially as it relates to the early Church. But there's another elephant in the room here, which this debate within the Church tiptoes around, as you just did, too.
    2) "Being gay" is no sin. Two people of the same sex living together is no sin. A heterosexual Catholic couple living together before marriage in the church is no sin. And this is where Francis is a very smart man. We can bless the "persons", but not the "unions" (the way we would not bless a "union" of those two heterosexual Catholics before marriage, as there is "no union.") It is the sexual act itself (between two people of the same sex OR between those two heterosexual Catholics BEFORE marriage, which is "sinful."
So, you are "assuming", are you not, that all gay couples (all gay men!) are having sex? Are you assuming that all unmarried heterosexual Catholic couples (or all single Catholics!) are having sex before marriage? If you're not assuming that, why aren't you? And if you are assuming that, why are you? Francis clearly knows that the only way to "ascertain sin" is to ask every single couple (every single person!), "Are you currently having sex, and with whom?" And THIS is why he was wise enough to say... "If a gay person is living a good life, close to the Lord, WHO AM I TO JUDGE"). But you two guys just made an entire raft of...judgments, all absent of knowledge.

You can't make up your own definition of "sin", you are Catholic so you have to use the Catholic definition and that makes you wrong. The CCC very clearly defines that homosexual acts are sins.

It actually is a sin for a heterosexual couple to cohabit prior to marriage. It is what is called a voluntary continuous near occasion of sin. Anyone in such a situation is bound to remove themselves from the occasion according to catholic moral theology.

@@antw3114 Well, clearly the "nearness of the occasion" of sin... is not a sin (btw, I don't think I've heard that phrase since about, oh, 1968?) But if we want to talk about the most pressing theological problems facing us, how many angels do you, personally, think can dance on the head of a pin? 😉

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error” (Rom. 1:26-27).
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor. 6:9-10).
“Now we know that the law is good, if any one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, immoral persons, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine” (1 Tim. 1:8-10).
“Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire” (Jude 7).
But God’s displeasure with acting out on homosexuality is depicted as early as Genesis 19 in the Old Testament. Also see Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13.
Yes, interpretation is important. If interpretation were left up to us as individuals, we could make the Bible say whatever we want it to say, and our sinful natures could gravitate toward interpretations that serve our passions. That is why, ultimately, the Church reserves the right to interpret Scripture to herself. “For all of that has been said about the way of interpreting Scripture is subject finally to the judgment of the Church, which carries out the divine commission and ministry of guarding and interpreting the word of God” (Dei Verbum 12).
The Catholic Church is the “pillar and foundation of truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15 You can make up and misinterpret anything you’d like, including what the Pope says, but that doesn’t make you smarter or more knowledgeable than Christ’s own church. Homosexuality has always been a sin, but at times, like this age, there are more people that Satan is leading into this sin, therefore the Church will address it more. It used to be something that people suspected, but was so evil that they didn’t talk about it. Now, in our time, it seems the sin of pride, which is the sin of Satan and Adam and Eve, and is on display as homosexuality, is being made to be just another lifestyle choice, just as heterosexual people, living in sin, was made more open and therefore pushed to be accepted in the 1960s and onward. All of this acceptance, and the sexual sins accompanying it, is an act of defiance against God and his laws. We are all called to chastity, this means heterosexuals and homosexuals, to act otherwise is a sin. Living together before marriage, or in with a homosexual friend, is an occasion for sin, if there are any desires for the other. If you think that is antiquated and no one believes this anymore, you are again mistaken, and maybe it’s because of the books you read or the company you keep, but the Church hasn’t changed. Pope Francis is known for being too ambiguous in what he says, and he refuses to define what he says, frequently. As Catholics, we must take away what is good and leave the bad. If he seems to be promoting living in sin, he’s not, but many interpret it that way. What he said was not said “from the chair of St. Peter,” or ex cathedra, meaning it’s not an infallible teaching from Christ. Plus any true teaching will not contradict Scripture. If you are really “living a good life close to the Lord,” then you would follow His Churches teachings and commandments.
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15).
“Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him” (John 14:21).
“Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the Father who sent me” (John 14:23-24).

Fwiw, i have always looked at Pride month as more than a focused celebration of NotHetero Marriage. If a person who is male identifies some aspects of self where his gender does not exactly fit to biological sex, it's no longer something to be scared or ashamed of. i have seen it as a safe place for everyone to party together for a time, in their shared weirdness. Don't like it? Either don't party, or... maybe put a Cross on the rainbow flag and make it yours? Show how the Roy G. Biv was meant for everyone? Be like Constantine (cf Cornel West's take on Constantinian Christianity in Race Matters and/or Democracy Matters)? No one 'owns' a color (Yves Klein & Mr. Pantone be damned), those lovely stripes belong to Us All. // Also, it wasn't the Pride parades that made my kid trans. It was the abuse seen in my Catholic hetero marriage of 17 years, where i ended up making being a woman look like a bad proposition, taking it all with wifely grace. - a Protestant 🪭!
