I play this song to my husband who is living in long-term care every week when I iPad with him. It is so uplifting. He is living with vascular dementia and always moves his feet to this music. Beautiful.
Hi Ethelle, I’m so sorry to hear that your husband is suffering with this awful disease. Thank you for contacting me, this is not the first time this has been said to me. Iv had about 3 other people tell me the same thing one of which is one of my close friends who’s father has rapid dementia. He is at the point now that he knows no one, obviously this is very upsetting for my friend Joanne. She said he has almost no movement and his facial expressions have disappeared. She played him some music from her phone only a few weeks ago as she stood outside his window in the nursing home and she said when my version of “Sing Me An Old Fashioned Song” came on, she said he started to tap his fingers and his feet with the music. His facial expression changed like some part of him remembered that song. Now I don’t think for one minute that it’s me singing the song, it’s the song itself!!! It’s so weird but my friend was so happy and (sad) at the same time that her dad came back to her for that short time.
