OUTLAWS and Henry Paul Band had a crisp, clear sound delivering high energy performances with precision. I'm a musician and can attest that almost anyone can be made to sound good in the studio, but you really dont know how good a band is til you catch them LIVE
Henry Paul. Has been my favorite musician. When he was wit, you left the outlaws and started the Henry Paul band and then Blackhawk, and then the outlaws again. The man is an extraordinary songwriter. I was so grateful to have been able to see him agai. 'd like to see him again sometime soon. I live in saint Augustine, Florida. Maybe he will come around this way. I love everything you do and keep it up buddy.
This great song by one of the true ambassador of Southern Rock, Henry Paul, holds a special niche in my heart. Dedicated to Ronnie; greatest of all anyhow.
I was about 19 when this song came out. I remember listening to this very concert were all sitting on a bridge drinking beer back then you could do that without much heat. It was a wonderful world back then.
This song , like Henry said was dedicated to Ronnie van Zandt but , was about the Confederate General John Mosby , whom the Yankees called the “Gray Ghost” ( Grey because of the uniform color and Ghost because they could never see him , only the aftermath of his cavalry destruction the next morning) … Cavalry General John Mosby defended the breadbasket of the confederacy , the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia !!!
This is how music is supposed to be played. Not with 60 back up dancers and choreographed bullshit The old guard southern rockers knew how to throw down.
I don’t know I’m just now discovering this band. I’m 65 and from North Carolina. It’s like music from my youth that I’ve never heard but somehow know…if that makes any sense. Any way…I’m loving it now!
This tune reminds me of my husband that died in 1975.Ive seen his Grey Ghost,he came in my dreams with a warning of his sons death in 2009 of Feb.Its a true statement for all of you non-believers
When Skynyrd died a whole group of bands sought to fill the void in Southern Rock, The Henry Paul Band was one of those and they deliver one of the most blistering lead guitar solos of the era.
Big HPB fan and saw them many times, including once when they opened for the Stones. They were the first act, Molly Hatchet was second, and then Mick and the boys came out. I sang along to more HPB songs than stones songs that night, and that was rare for a 19 year old African American lol.
Billy plaid with the outlaws/ blackhawk at a volunteer jam in the winery in nashville about 4 or 5 yrs ago.he played and he played with Hank jr.it was a charitable event for the van stephonson fund and musicares( charitable foundation for up coming musicians with no medical ins).the private show prior to the big event was a auction of signed albums guitars etc....pretty much every yr nowdays.keep your eyes peeled.
Gray Ghost, my 68 primer Gray Chevelle was named after this song after it screamed through the hills of East Liverpool, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania!
I have a live King Biscuit Flower Hour Concert by HPB with excellent sound quality. I saw HPB at the Button South in Hallandale, FL what a show. I got the band to sign their autographs on my guitar. RIP David F.
I went to “The Outlaws Legacy” headlined by HP back in Dec, 22 for my 21st. I have a recording of Grey Ghost, Green Grass and High Tides and Hurry Sundown. Would you want them?
Awesome to see the vids of HPB. This northern Yankee from New England grew up in the 70's listening to all the old school southern rock including of course Skynyrd, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, HPB, etc.. Love it!
I was there for this with STILLWATER standing on the side of the stage...what a tremendous band...badass Billy Crain! Got to see them open for the ABB in Columbus Ga Oct 1980... another awesome set.
Just saw Henry and the Outlaws and Billy Crain at Penn's Peak in PA and Billy and his band opened up, but, man, they are STILL just great...Love them all....
Been trying to reach Billy Crain, so hopefully he checks in here in occasion to read comments. I played with Ed King for a few years in 2005-2006 in the Saturday Night Special Band, and he told me, not once, but several times, that Billy Crain's recorded solo on Grey Ghost was THE BEST southern rock guitar solo he ever heard. Hopefully someone on this board could pass that along to Billy.
@@thebasilelawfirmp.c.7110 Well my centimental favorite from reading album covers growing up, and an occasional live glimpse, was A.C.. But from what I found when I learned to use the internet; it looked like Steve had plenty of talent & was fitting in nicely. I also heard he grew some very nice tomatoes.
@@thebasilelawfirmp.c.7110 I sought this track out because of your suggestion, I now owe you a debt of gratitude. And a Baby Grand on stage,,,my Mom had one for years that Dad bought for her because he absolutley loved her playing.
I got through to Billy on Facebook. Told him what Ed said and he was humbled to know that. Billy is a great guitar player. Wish I had the chance to play with him.
Was that Billy Jones? I didn't know he went with Henry from the outlaws! I was lucky enough to see the original Outlaws lineup in 1977 on new years eve at the Bayfront center in St. Pete FL!!
I remember hearing this when it was on King Biscuit in early 1979. This whole concert was a tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and this song was a jaw-dropper when it was introduced. The remaining healthy members of Skynyrd played "Free Bird" at the end of the concert, with no vocals-just a spotlight on a microphone stand in honor of Ronnie Van Zant. ruclips.net/video/6OczEG1OYoE/видео.html&ab_channel=GibsonFirebird64
Talk about it Rosalynn and then when they added David Forster they were on fire saw them open up for Rossington Collins on their debut album anytime anyplace anywhere tour was hanging out with Henry and David drinking old #7 RCB had the yeaho and that a fact jack
Tonka61 How was the concert? saw them at the Lyric theater in 2016 and they KICKED ASS. I have a few vids of the concert on my channel. they never dissapoint!

Billy Crain on lead guitar is one of the best rock guitar players to ever have been.
no doubt!
Amazing
Just wanted to say I saw him play with the Henry Paul band and the outlaws and he’s still really damm good.
Absolutely!
And Billy Jones
Henry Paul.

Yet Henry Paul revers to his friend Ronnie van Zant..
Henry is a legend. The Outlaws, The Henry Paul Band, and BlackHawk. What a master of music and finding amazing musicians.
Amen!
Last time I saw Henry Paul, he was jamming with the Outlaws.
This is how music is supposed to be played. Not with 60 back up dancers and choreographed bullshit
The old guard southern rockers knew how to throw down.
I CAUGHT A GUITAR STRING FEISTER THREW OUT TO THE AUDIENCE-SHOWED HIM AND GRINNED WIDELY!!!!😃😃😃😃

I understand.
Better late than never. Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy the ride. Rock On !🤘🤘🤘
My dad owned a bar called the Depot in Tampa back in 1976 and I have known Henry ever since. I was 7. What a great life I have had.
This tune reminds me of my husband that died in 1975.Ive seen his Grey Ghost,he came in my dreams with a warning of his sons death in 2009 of Feb.Its a true statement for all of you non-believers
Saw them and Charlie Daniels band numerous times , GREAT SOUTHERN ROCK😁🔥🎸🎸😍!!!

HOORAY 4 U SIR! I AM ENVIOUS!!!
I saw henry paul perform with Outlaws last year for my 21 birthday, Dec 2022. Only black kid and the youngest by 20 years. We keep this shit alive.

Outlaws played at the Buffalo Roadhouse in Tampa under an assumed name in '79. Still jamming to them.
Saw them in summer 1980, opened for Marshall Tucker Band. What a show!
Me too in Tucson! Same summer, same tour!
Gray Ghost, my 68 primer Gray Chevelle was named after this song after it screamed through the hills of East Liverpool, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania!
This is the best incarnation of the HPB, Jim Fish and Billy Crain are excellent.
i agree
Jim and Henry representing N.Y. Teresa are you Jim's sister? I was at the get
together in Delmar this past year.
I remember when this came out they wrote for the skynyrd crash that hurt us all ! Thanks Henry !
Excellence....Hey from South Carolina via Ohio....
How am I just now finding this masterpiece?
It's always nice to discover more Southern Rock.
He later formed the country group Blackhawk
So underrated!
I SAW HPB/ALLMAN BROTHERS IN SOUTH FL. IN THE 80S😀😀😀😀
Is Billy Crain any relation to Tommy Crain CDB This song Rocks of the south
Yes, he’s Tommy’s younger brother
Great music. I remember when "Feel the Heat" came out. It was badass with the wah.
I have a live King Biscuit Flower Hour Concert by HPB with excellent sound quality. I saw HPB at the Button South in Hallandale, FL what a show. I got the band to sign their autographs on my guitar. RIP David F.

HPB just brought it!!!! Check out the live at the Roxy concert in LA when the band was introduced by Dan Ackroyd. They were flying on snow…
Love this tribute to Ronnie Van Zant
Awesome to see the vids of HPB. This northern Yankee from New England grew up in the 70's listening to all the old school southern rock including of course Skynyrd, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, HPB, etc.. Love it!
All my favorite Outlaws songs were written by Billy! Song For You, Holiday come to mind!
Night Wines
Great solo of Jim Fish. I like all the southern guitar players, like Billy Jones, Duane Roland, Duane Allman, keeping up with Dickey Betts..
I was there for this with STILLWATER standing on the side of the stage...what a tremendous band...badass Billy Crain! Got to see them open for the ABB in Columbus Ga Oct 1980... another awesome set.
Saw them at Ruby Diamond Auditorium on FSU campus around 1980
Brings back great memories!
I miss Nashville, moved away in 1984 been stuck in Charlotte, N.C ever since
First saw the HPB at Rutgers in 1979 or 80 when they opened for Styx. They blew the roof off the place. Been a fan ever since.
Amazing! 1978,, outlaws
I went to Volunter jam it was at the Tampa fl fairgrounds
Great southern band
Wow...Billy Crain...brother of Tommy Crain (RIP) of the classic Charlie Daniels Band line-up.
I was at this show
Saw HPB around 1980 at a landmark theater. could not get them off the stage. 4 encores. Could have done 10.
Drove to this show my senior year
Holy Crain!
Just saw Henry and the Outlaws and Billy Crain at Penn's Peak in PA and Billy and his band opened up, but, man, they are STILL just great...Love them all....

If Ed thought so; then it must be so. I would just loved to have seen what Steve Gaines may have done if his music career hadn't been cut short.
@@southvaron757 You and the whole Skynyrd Nation ! Ed loved Steve's playing and they shared the same birthday. Great coincidence!

Brilliant. Nuff said.
WOW!
Was that Billy Jones? I didn't know he went with Henry from the outlaws! I was lucky enough to see the original Outlaws lineup in 1977 on new years eve at the Bayfront center in St. Pete FL!!
No, it's Billy Crain. Billy Jones stayed with Hughie and the Outlaws during this time period.
They could be twins, LOL!
I thought Billy Jones stayed with the Outlaws, but that guy looked almost like him!
I was at that Concert...What a Jam !!!
I'm trying to think of the other bands, and I can only remember Sea Level.
Steve Gaines brought me here and to say Hi to Barry Rapp,Leslie Haynes Stover
My husband is a grey ghost /dying in 1974 not knowing due to a brain hemorrhage in his sleep.

Wally Dentz on bass is always outstanding! Bill Hoffman on drums! Henry made a good selection when choosing players!
One of the best and gets very little respect.
Talk about it Rosalynn and then when they added David Forster they were on fire saw them open up for Rossington Collins on their debut album anytime anyplace anywhere tour was hanging out with Henry and David drinking old #7 RCB had the yeaho and that a fact jack
