- Science marches on...then trips on this movie and face-plants.
This was my first ever video, which was uploaded on December 1 of 2013. I took it down to re-cut because the original editing job was terrible. It is now the best it can possibly be...and it STILL won't let me monetize it.
This video is protected under the Fair Use Act as both a review and a parody.

“If a dinosaur appears we’ll also have magnitude 5 earthquakes”
HOW?! JUST HOW ARE THEY CAPABLE OF DOING THAT?!
Did they mean that in this movie they're so big their steps cause earthquakes?
Think « Akira » combined with « Carrie » and « Jurassic Park »
Brandon Tenold: "And if it's a woolly mammoth, that could mean only one thing: Sharknado!"
Someone should remake this movie LOL
Well, one could consider this the prototype that helped Toei start to master their special effects. Suitmation, pyrotechnics, even gore. Oh, nevermind. This movie is from 1977. Toei had already done 5 seasons of Kamen Rider and was on its second season of Super Sentai.
My goodness, and people said 2014 and KOTM was hard to watch.
"Yoshi Bear". Nicely done there~ Also, those were definitely eels. Which makes the woman's reaction to them all the stranger. That'd be like if I had a phobia of beef.
A Thermonuclear Dragon a robot and Giant Fish thwarting an Alien Invasion? What movie is that a reference to?
Terror of Mechagodzilla, made in 1975.
@@omniviewer2115 thanks by the way I recommend Love, Death + Robots first chapter has really cool monsters fight
Every time I hear the music in this i keep thinking that Shaft is gonna appear in this ^^
18:39 maybe it’s a Pleasure-o-saurus 😉 Bow-chikka-bow-wow 😘
Hi there Omni Viewer. New to your channel and I came across this old video of yours. . I've been trying to make my own version of the film. and I've found some interesting info about the films pre-production in a G-Fan magazine. The earliest story concept was titled The Giant Monster Bird vs. The Giant Dragon God” (大怪鳥対大竜神, Dai kaisho tai Dai ryujin) The story was even more like Jaws as it was set on an island rather than an inland lake. In this first iteration, an unspecified dinosaur (inspired by the Japanese sea dragon deity Ryujin) was to battle a giant Archaeopteryx in the vicinity of Kisogashima in the Satsunan Islands.
In a later treatment, which is very similar to the finished film, as a few differences. The story takes place in 197X. It starts with a series of earthquakes and climate changes that scientists predict will lead to a new ice age. The situation leads to "political disturbances" in Japan, which is never hinted in the film. In August, a group of campers is enjoying the autumn-like weather in Aokigahara forest. (Mt. Fuji is already capped with more snow than normal." The young woman who falls into the ice cave is found by the campers and utters "a few strange words" before she dies instead of going into a coma in the film.
The practical geologist, Takashi Arakawa, was originally named Setsu Serizawa. The treatment reveals a little more about his back story. His father neglected him and his mother to study at the foot of Mt. Fuji. His father published a paper stating that dinosaurs still existed around Lake ai. He was ridiculed for the theory, and dies years later.
Shohei Muku (in the movie, the friend of Ashizawa's father) is reveled to he a junior high school teacher, a detail that is not in the film. The eels that are seen inside the motorhome of Akiko are in here bed, not on the floor.
The end of the story is similar but Takashi/Sestu and Akiko do survive and the treatment ends with them gazing at the clouds, which are reflecting the molten lava.
Extra Fun Fact: Upon seeing the film for the first time, the president of Toei harshly described the film as "an embarrassment."
What would you do to make the film better?
Well, now I can see why Brandon Tenold is VERY pissed when he saw and reviewed this movie.
Also, Issie is not the only lake monster in Japan. There is a more obscure one called Kussie said to live in Lake Kussharo in Hokkaido.
21:02 not gonna omni this scene made my mouth drop in shock when she pull her friend out of the water
Ah the English dubbing like these always leads to the most awkward and yet funny lines ever.
Does anybody feel that one of the dub actors is June Foray in some places?
Best part is there are no dinosaurs in this movie
Right?
Trust me Gamera doesn’t need this movie around to look good, he looks good just on his own
As long as you look at the Heisei trilogy, then yeah.
@@stevele4877 hmm nah even the Showa era looks good by comparison especially Barugon, Gyaos, n Jiger
None of those pterosaurs were known of at this time
18:11
Does anyone know what this is referencing? Is this even a reference to any specific kaiju eiga?
YOU THINK
Honestly, I'm surprised this never aired on MST3k.
6:25 LOL always good joke
25:59 oh my god SHUT UP WITH THAT STUFF OMNI
Oh crap b4 I forget have u ever seen a cartoon series called Dino Riders I think u would like it
I think the reason this movie was made was to cash in on the Japanese fishing boat that apparently caught the decomposing body of a plesiosaur off the coast of New Zealand in the same year of 1977. The film style was clearly inspired by Jaws. The pterodactyl? I have no idea
Hmmm interesting
27:20 this part made me laugh hard.
14:16
Fez's are cool.
I don't really understand the difference between a dinosaur and a marine reptile, and what do pterosaurs count as?
Tyler McNeeley its kind of complicated as different groups of marine reptiles have different relations. Mosasaurs are related to monitor lizards. Plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs relations aren't the best known though there definitely not dinosaurs or even close relatives.
The term "dinosaur" only refers to terrestrial ancient reptiles and --by right of inheritance--, modern birds.
The difference between a Dinosaur and a Marine Reptile is simple: Dinosaurs are terrestrial archosaurs where as Marine Reptiles are, well, Reptiles that evolved to be fully aquatic.
Even Modern birds and the Semi-aquatic Spinosaurids still are partly terrestrial.
Pterosaurs are their own Group within Archosaurs.
9:25 Scaleless snakes?
Those are eels. They have fins and gills. I'm pretty sure after filming, they are eaten.
May not be the best but it sure is the funkiest monster movie ever lol
Yeah it gets the job done...sorta
The weirdest jaws ripoff ever
While I know this might sound, like a stupid thing to say, I hope that someday you review the movie: Romeo & Juliet Sealed: With a Kiss.
I just looked that up on IMDB upon reading your comment. I am at once surprised that it exists, and yet not surprised. It just might enter my lineup of future reviews. Thanks...I think...
No problem…I guess.
gordhanx I do hope you are enjoying what you see.
I do too.
Wow, the only OG comments
This Movie Might Just Be The Worst Kaiju Movie I Have Even Seen
Nah. Planet Eater was the worst
Godzilla 1998
Allright then; »A. P. E« and «Queen Kong«. Those make Deavlin (dunno if I wrote that right) and Emmerichs « Masterpiece » look like the original Gojira!
Really? The Planet eater IS not as bad as this.
10 : 00 you mean loch's
10:00
Hate to be a douche, but “pterodactyl” is an extremely outdated term in paleontology. The correct term is “pterosaur.”
Actually „Pterodactyl“ is a way for referring to short-tailed Pterosaurs, which Rhamphorynchus wasn’t!
@@anomalotheriataurus8806 The correct way to say it, though, is Pterodactyloid Pterosaur for short tailed ones.
Remember: Science is the realm of long and confusing words. :P
Fair enough
