@npgfunk The 2006 Eclipse doesn't normally come with a filter housing and cover, however there seems to be a kit you can buy from the dealer that can be installed in your car. Either way the plastic would have to be cut, however you would need the kit to install a filter after cutting the plastic.
As someone else said 2 years ago, I also can't get past step one on my 2008 Eclipse GS. After I figured out how to disconnect the retainer cord on the right side (which is not covered in the video, btw) I squeezed in the sides and swung the glove box down. Now, where your video shows two hinges that are barely hanging on, I have three hinges that didn't want to let go when I used more force than I was comfortable with. Whether or not I have a cabin air filter, I need to get past the glove box to replace my blower motor resistor. I need to figure this out.
I too have an issue with my eclipse gt. It is an 08 model and I can’t take out the cabin air filter. @trancedsailor It usually depends on the trim level that you get when you purchase the car. For example, the RS might not have the filter accessible but the GTS might. Sometimes it's also a dealer installed option.
@Jamalhack - It sounds like you have a 1999 model. That year, the cabin filter was a dealer-installed option. You can take it to a Mitsubishi dealer, and they will cut the cover open and provide the screws that you see. From that point on, you can change the filter yourself (like you see in this video).
