Homemade Mozzarella Sticks!!

  • Learn how to make homemade mozzarella sticks just like you find in a restaurant! So much better than the heat-n-serve frozen ones and a lot cheaper too! I don't recommend baking these as the breading needs to cook before the cheese turns to oozing molten lava. ;-)
    What you'll need:
    8oz. mozzarella cheese
    1/4 cup flour
    2 large eggs
    2 Tbsp water
    2 cups Italian Style breadcrumbs (see how I make mine here: • How to Make Italian St... )
    vegetable oil for frying
    Start by cutting the block of cheese in half and then standing on edge and slicing in half again followed by cutting into 5 equal sections. Each cheese stick should be approx. 1/4"x1/4"x3". One (8oz) block of cheese will make 20 mozzarella sticks. Toss the cheese sticks in flour and shake to remove excess flour. Whisk eggs with water in a pie plate or bowl and coat the floured sticks in the mixture. In another pie plate or bowl, add bread crumbs and coat the cheese sticks. Shake off excess crumbs and set aside. Repeat the breading process by dipping in the egg mixture again followed by the bread crumbs again. Put onto a plate and freeze for at least 2 hours. This helps to prevent cheese blowout during cooking.
    Heat oil to 350*F. In small batches, fry the cheese sticks until golden brown. It takes less than a minute to cook them. Remove to a paper towel lined plate or a wire rack to drain. Serve with marina sauce and enjoy! Makes 20 mozzarella cheese sticks.

If you like your cheese sticks really think with breading you may need an extra egg for better sticking, but other than that my whole family loved them so much! My dog was drooling on my leg which was very slimy, but since she sad there so cute and polite I gave her just one. She loved it so much she rolled around and snuggled me all day, hoping I would give her another one.

    I made these today and they were awesome! I do not (yet) have a thermometer (ordered one and it arrives Monday) so I have no idea how hot my oil was (probably too hot). I usually don't fry things so I wasn't even good at guessing what the temp would be. So they came out a little darker than I'd prefer - but I only fried up 4 to test things out. But like said, even though I didn't do it right, they were good.
    I will say that I found 2 cups of bread crumbs WAY more than necessary. I just used store bought and I did add a bit of garlic powder (I like things fairly garlic-y).
    Thanks for the great recipe! These really were as good as from a restaurant. I can't wait to make more after my thermometer arrives and actually get the temperature right. (I just left the rest in the freezer in a covered tupperware container.)

    • @videosbystacy2231
      @videosbystacy2231 8 лет назад

      Update: I made them again today after my thermometer came in so I knew when the oil was actually at 350 degrees, and they came out PERFECT! So much better than frozen store-bought and as good as restaurant - and less expensive than either.

Don't toast the bread or anythint, normal bread is fine. this is what I do for my sticks and the oil makes a perfect golden coating,. hope this helps for everyone who doesn't have panko
