- 99% of the vinyl I use on my channel is Specialty Materials Brands I have tried many kinds over the years, and they are my absolute favorite. The quality is top-notch, I have a video where I wash a shirt 50 times, and the vinyl still looks brand new. • Thermoflex vs. Siser: ... They have the most extensive range of products and colors around ( there are over 90 colors in the ThermoFlex Plus and GlitterFlex Ultra lines alone). They also offer free product samples on their website, which you don’t see anymore. Trust me, request a sample because if you try it, you will know why I love it.

Oh my goodness!! You said exactly what I was thinking!! The regular good old copy paper looked the best
Would love an update on how it holds up in the wash. Thank you so much! This is such a $ saver :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!Yes, your presence is a blessing
Happy birthday Betsy and we truly are blessed with your presence ❤️❤️❤️
Love watching you... you always make me smile... thank you so much for your videos I have learned alot and cant wait to try this 😊
Wow! This would be such a money saver for so many people!
Happy Birthday, sweetie. Thanks so very much for testing the new infusible ink and how to use it the economical way. This is going to help us a WHOLE lot. Love your teaching!!!
Wow!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY🎂🍰!!! That's going to be a huge money saver THANK YOU for testing this I would have never thought to do so.
Amazing what companies get by with. I always try to figure out other ways
I'm not surprise, because Ghost toner supplier mentioned in one of their videos that you can use ordinary paper with their sublimation toner(sublime ink).
Happy Birthday!! I'm glad u blessed us with ur presence because ur awesome!
Happy Birthday Betsy!!! Love your videos. This is unbelievable... Thanks for sharing.
Please wash it a few times and show them again. Great video.
It's the same dye on each sample, just different transfer mediums. Washing it will make no difference.
@@GeorgiaBoi70 I’ve seen videos of people washing them and the shirts come out really faded. I’m not even close to know what I’m doing but I did see that lol
@@christina9879 it only fades if you sublimate on 100% cotton
I hardly use "sublimation paper". I've been using Hammermill's copy paper for the past year. The wash holds up great for fabrics and colors come out great on hard substrates.
Your able to dye sublimation using dark t-shirt using hallmins copy paper?
@@jessicaspeakman3909 I think that's kind of an asinine question. Of course you can't directly sublimate a black shirt using copy paper. You also can't do it using anything that doesn't resemble printable vinyl like subli-flex 202. We've run hundreds of tests with just copy paper on white shirts and the copy paper actually does produce better images than sublimation paper.
@@jessicaspeakman3909 You can't just sublimate onto dark fabric without using some sort of transfer like EasySubli or something. Sublimation uses the fabric or light fabric for basically the base color. If you sublimate onto black, the black is the darkest color and you will not see anything other color because the rest will just fade into the back. If you sublimate onto a yellow shirt your colors will blend with the yellow, so you may end up with green instead of blue. Sublimation does not cover the color but goes into the shirt fabric.
sublimation printer or regular ol' inkjet printer?
@@KaoticIntentions1972 Well, of course, it does because more heat can pass through the thin copy paper better than the thick Sublimation transfer paper and as we know Sublimation ink works better with more heat that turns it into its gases state and not only that but the thin paper will press closer to the fabric than a thick transfer paper would. Again making it a better way to transfer Sublimation ink into the fabrics. I can see the advantage right out of the gate. I'm glad I learned of this before I bought Sublimation papers by the crate load. Saving a small fortune.
This is a game changer for me! THANK YOU! Happy belated birthday!
Wow, you are amazing.... I never thought of using plain paper and any savings is appreciated. Thank you and you rock!!!!
Thank you for the video! Have your editor learn about the stabilization options in the different video editors, I got seasick!
OMG with this info i just might get into sublimation and be able to afford it. Thank you so much, this is something i would have tried if i too had the sublimation printer. Thanks and yes please make more of these "testing" videos! Your the best!
Exactly cause I couldn't calculate enough profit based on the prices before I saw this video
WOW! Great discover Betsy! Sublimation folks will need to see this. Happy Birthday!!
This video is very much appreciated, Thank you!!! I definitely would like to see more videos like this. I know you said you were moving but your walls are a beautiful color and the room looks like a fun place to create.
OMG...totally blown!!! I just got a die sub printer...totally good to know!!! You just saved me a super bundle...so glad you do these trial videos...
What printer are you using and rough price please.
Hi, I'm a sublimation paper company guy, so not without prejudice. I know that it's all about the end result, and that in your case you don't see much difference. However, the copy paper was more permeable: the ink that you see on your protection paper, has eventually not landed on your substrate. For any easy blue design without much ink, the difference is hard to see. We see it in industrial sublimation for fashion industry as well: as long as you don't need a wide color gamut, and don't need sharp images, and only use low ink amounts, and don't try to do skin colors, an uncoated low grammage paper will give you the possibility to make your product. When you need HQ sharp lines, and deep colors, like cocacola red you definitely get better results with sublimation paper. If you print 20.000 tshirts and optimize your color profile while using the right paper you can eventually save more money. Ever calculated the inkprice per liter?
What surprises me is the very long transfer time you use. You can at least go down to 30 sec. You will see that the sublimation paper only needs 30 sec, and a copypaper needs more time. If you both transfer them for 60 sec, you let another advantage of sublimation paper disappear. Time is also money!
Sawgrass really calculated for you for each papertype and substrate the optimum ink amounts, for the right end-result in color. I hope you used for the different papers the same color profile in your driver to be sure there is the same ink amount on each paper.
You can make a similar movie and show the big difference between sublimation papers and regular copy papers. Try buying a package of the new JETCOL DHS, and choose in the virtuoso print manager the matching profile. Choose a sharp test design with perhaps a nice tanned face in it and transfer it for 30 sec on a polyester shirt. Do the same for TexprintR, use the TexprintR profile in the VPM, and you will see that although both are dedicated sublimation papers, they already are showing a difference. The Jetcol paper is giving a deeper colored image, while your SG400 used 10% less ink, which you will see after printing a few dozen shirts.
My comment is only to tell that your (simple) test shows an acceptable quality that fits your designs and products, and if you can work with copy paper, of course you should save yourself the money. But if you gonna do chromalux plates and need sharp images, matching skin colors, or tshirts with deep blue and red colors, you will need the right paper. We've NOT been lying to you. That's short sighted. Different coatings are developed for different kind of inks and printer/ink combinations, color calculations are made, drying speeds and transfer yield of ink is optimised, reproducability is tested and guaranteed... Copy paper is optimised for fast sheet feeding in copiers without static electricity jumping from the paper to your copier, whiteness, and toner-adhesion for durability of your prints. It is just a different paper for a different application, and yes, cheaper because it's not a specialty, but a commodity that is being produced in huge amounts.
Ah so it was too good to be true :/
hugo geerdinck I tried using copy paper. Yes, it works, my design was merely grey scale (pencils) and it did transfer well and has been washed a few times already and it still looks good. Here's the actual kicker. The copy paper is either too thin, or too permeable, so if you press the image, the image will attach itself to your press, and the next time you press something, a ghost image will be on your next job. If you use thicker paper or a top sheet, you are still spending more money, or wasting more paper, so it's a wash (no pun intended.) I had seen this video and wanted to try it, but it's really not worth it, unless you run out of sub paper and have an emergency.
I heard that you'll use much more ink by using a copy paper. Maybe that's why she had a lot of ink transferred to a protecting paper??🤷♀️If that's the case, than you lose money, because the sub ink isn't cheap.😊
Excellent post Hugo. I totally agree. You get what you pay for, no question. Back in the 90's comedian Chris Rock once said 'you can drive a car with your feet, doesn't make it a good idea'. Just cause it could be done, doesn't mean you should and one shouldn't expect the best results. What end product do you want in the hands of your customers a shop should ask themselves. If a shop can't afford the few extra cents to deliver a premium result they should re-evaluate their pricing strategies. If they don't the reputation on the quality of their work will take the hit soon enough. For in-house testing, sure use the cheapest products you can, but don't pass that to your customers.
Sounds like a crock!
Oh.my.goodness! This is wonderful! Love that you experiment and tell us like it is. I will definitely be trying this after my heat press comes next week. HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!
Does it works??
Thanks for doing this little test. I’m always open to new possibilities🤗
Wow lady. Thx a looooot. I cant believe companies are doing this, from now on no more sublimation paper. Thanx a lot
This paper for cotton.... pollster has never have any deference. She used pollster... also she used very very very expansive inks...
Wow. Unbelievable. This is fantastic. With Cricut products you’re limited to their patterns, but you can print almost anything. Keep up the great work.
In my opinion, when you have pictures or something with more definition and colors, there is a big difference
Gotta try it!! Have some ornaments needing done and other items! Thanks for the heads up. Happy Birthday!!
Love this video. I have my stuff arriving today and I’m shopping for a printer now so this is great info. Thank you so much. I need to save all the money I can. Happy Birthday 🎉 to you!
I loved this video! I've always wondered about that paper. The Uninet iColor printer uses regular copy paper with its sublimation toner. I plan on saving myself some money! Thank you! Can you try testing the chromoplast papers with your regular dye sublimation inks? I've heard that they it still works on cotton. I'd love to see a comparison. Thanks again for sharing this awesome test video!
I can
Can U do a video on the siser easysubli. Paper your suppose to be able to print on this and put on any garment even dark colors ......
I have one
Happy Birthday Betsy!! Love this video!
Definitely mine blowing! HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎉🎂🎊 😊❤️
Well I be damn! I’m going to try this first thing in the morning. I’ve been spending $43 paper. Thanks for looking out for regular people!
QUESTION FOR YOU HOW DID IT TURN OUT FOR YOU
Wow!!!!! I use my sublimation printer almost everyday mainly on mugs so I’m going to have to try a mug now!!!! Thank you soo much
How did it go?
Hi Iris, did it work on the mugs too?
How did it go?
Wondering if it worked on your mugs too!
I do a ton of mugs, tons. How did it go. I'll probably have to try one myself
Wow! Great info, thank you! I hope you had the BEST birthday ever! 💕
Holy Cow! I have tested various inks before but never thought to actually switch the paper! Unbelievable!! Thank you for posting this video... Happy Birthday!
Becky Duregger do you have any side by side comparisons of the inks you’ve tested? I’m on the hunt to order some!
wonder how it will hold up with washing, great vid thank you and love the dress so cute!
Amethyst Pendragon I was thinking the same thing.
Me too...
Amethyst Pendragon me three!
Me four!!
I dont think it would matter as the ink is what is infused with the fiber. The paper is just how the ink is transferred to the fiber. But I dont do sublimation myself but I have dont research on it.
Dang it, wish I would had seen this before buying sublimation paper a few days ago
This is nuts! Thanks so much for the video. Hope you've had an amazing birthday!!! Cheers!
Happy Birthday 🎁🎉🎊🎂 Wow this is awesome!!!! Thank you for doing this test, you are amazing.
You are so danged cute, and I love your sense of humor and your TEXAS TWANG.
Heck, yeah!! this was an awesome video. Just bought an Epson eco-tank for sublimation and I will definitely give this a shot before investing in costly transfer paper. Thank you so much you just got a follower 4 life.
Just ordered one. Wf 7710 Geezo. Crazy
@@nativejay7483 i have 2 7710's. Whatever you do, get a warranty from Squaretrade. I have a love/hate relationship with Epson. Perhaps you already know this, but for those that don't...if it starts to print and you have to replace ink in the middle of a print..it will kick your paper out (partially printed)..put the same sheet back in because it will waste a whole nother sheet and print the part it didn't print the first time. I save all misprints and use them as scrap.
@@AnointedSong if you use an artisan 1430, that model actually lets you resume the print. It won't kick the paper out!
@@donnyshowalter6552 Thanks for that information. I have a 4540 that resumes where it left off as well, and without draining all the ink by prepping (or whatever they call it) once you install a new cartridge.
I don't know when they (Epson) started doing that whole kick the paper out, but it sucks. For the budget we have to work with the 7710's kind of work for our needs.
Happy Birthday to you!!!! Thanks for the Birthday sale. Happy Birthday to your family.
I just started my t/shirt heat press printing and just browsing for expert tips in almost everything to do with this process. It's not easy to absorb everything at the same time. Anyway, great tips and wishing you a belated, belated Happy Birthday. Cheers.
I guessed the same after reading about the laser paper with Infusible Ink. I was wondering why laser and it was cause it stands up to the heat required for sublimation. Well a lot of copy paper is described as multipurpose paper and it will include laser in the description. If you got a heavier weight copy paper I bet even less would come through. Thx for testing for us and confirming.
I wonder how long it will hold up if you find out let us know thank you so much.
I will
Cuttin Corners Vinyl curious about the same. How each paper will hold up after multiple washings. Please keep us posted.
Happy b’day to you!! 🎉 Jerri
@@Jerrisdesigns The paper is no longer there - if the dye has transferred then that is all you want
I have a large format printer that requires paper rolls, but I will check into getting a plain paper roll and see how that works. This is great! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for this big tip😀!!! Also HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY 🎂🎈🎉🎊
thank you for testing it.....will you report back after a few washings to see if there is a difference as to maintaining the color?
Yes
Yes, please report back.
Oh, could you try this on a dark shirt as well?
THATS MY QUESTION HOW IT WASHES ? :)

I was also going to say the regular printer paper looks brighter
Thank You! yes I want to see more like this and I will be trying this also! Your the best, I always learn something from you!
Seriously!!!! Oh my word. Thank you so much for sharing this info. I am so happy. Again THANK YOU!
Your welcome
Wow i never heard you can use regular print paper?. Sublimation yes
I have been doing this for years and saw a huge difference between the papers when I tried it. Try the test on a hard substrate. I am concerned of permanence here.
I really like your videos though.
Thanks for your videos they have taught me a lot i miss your vinyl and htv videos I’ve been watching craftmas and I love it

Happy Birthday Betsy! Love your videos!
Thank you
Happy birthday Betsy! This is awesome! I'm always looking for ways to save money!
Thank you
I have always been told that the difference is not in the print out but the time that the ink will last on the item after washing it. Have you watch the t-shirt to see if still the same? I'm very curious. Thanks for sharing.
wow cool! I'm still angry that 'Sublimation Heat Tape' is just the same as Computer Heat Tape which is loads cheaper!
some say you can use painters tape
No wayyyyyyyy!!!!! I cannot believe I did not try this. Thanks for this video also Happy Birthday!
You're absolutely right I learned this by mistake I left some plain paper in the printer and didn't realize until I pressed it and it came out just the same
I've been printing for a full year with normal paper and the results are the same in polyester shirts
Normal paper with regular inkjet printer ink or a special ink? I bought sublimation paper and it gave me a hard time in my printer

Thanks for the video. I knew this idea for more than 3 years now. 😍
Thx u for the tutorial do u think it would work on mugs also can u try it when you get. Chance and thx u
@shirley otero i was wondering the same thing because mugs usually need 3 mins. Wonder if the paper or mug would scorch?
@@AnointedSong I have a mug press but no simulation printer but I also have a laser printer and wondered would it work thank you for your reply and your tutorials
Sawgrass uses a gel based ink. This test is going to be more successful with an SG printer. If you use an Epson you will have different results with the plain copy paper since much more of the ink is absorbed into the fibers of the paper. The Hammermill she uses is 24lb paper and will likely still work fairly well with an Epson. One more test worth doing is printing on all three papers and letting the prints sit for a week or more before pressing. One of the concepts of coated paper is that the ink is not absorbed into the paper but lays on top. Quality paper printed with quality inks should show no degradation over reasonable amount of time. I can't say for certain you will get better or worse results but I would like to see the results.
And to the people saying this changes everything, in Sublimation if a $.30 sheet of paper is your sticking point on cost when you are spending about $1500 just to buy an A4 sawgrass setup not including a press, then you don't understand how to price your easily customized, simple to make work. If you are not gang printing and/or aggregating sales so that you can gang print then you need to take a closer look at what you are doing. Something that is large enough to take a full sheet of A4 paper should more than make up for the $.30 sheet of paper when you sell it. On the flip side, you can print 4 coaster prints on one sheet making your cost per print a HUGE and clearly unmanageable $.075 each. If you can't absorb that on a coaster, then you are simply doing it all wrong. You'll use more than that in tape and packaging material when you ship it.
Exactly on point with cost. Paper cost is the least of my concerns. I preprint a ton so stuff is ready to go. I also print and ship transfers for others. I have used prints a year out with no issues. I doubt the same could be said for copy paper.
Good to know!!! Thanks for testing and sharing!
I am your biggest fan! Just starting sublimation and you saved me some serious money! Thanks!
Go to any thrift store buy there 10 dollar printer. Next eBay empty ink cartridges (15 bucks) also buy pigment ink 400ml (20 bucks). Get copy paper from your job and bam 50 dollar operation.
Any tips on how to find empty print cartridges for a Canon mg2522? Checked ebay. Totally lost .

Fabulous info!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!! Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you - I have a sawgrass 400 and had no idea I could use regular copy paper or hammermill.
Happy birthday!!! Hope you have a wonderful day! Bravo!!! Just love your videos. Cricuts new infusible inks have really tossed a big question into this field of sub papers and blanks as well! I’m so glad you did this test! I’d be curious to see if the ink fades during continuous washing as that will ultimately make a huge difference on what paper/printer to buy. However, I assume it wouldn’t really make a difference if used on other items that doesn’t need washed:)
Happy Birthday Betsy!
Have a very happy birthday, mine is the 14tb. I am seriously considering a sublimation printer. Thank you again for all that you do. 🎂🤗💕
Can't wait to try this! Thanks!

Happy Birthday 🎂! Friday is my husband's birthday. Have a very blessed day!
That is awesome! Our school is considering getting a sublimation machine. This would save us tons of money in the future. Thank you!
Oh my I will give this a test. Thank You!
thanks for illustration!!!
I did it years ago for my nephews birthday at Disney, one for wash family member. I still use it to work out so I was it often and it holds up
I tried this also and the difference I saw with mine was after washing a few times. The shirts I did with sub paper definitely lasted longer then the one I did with copy paper. I didn’t try laser paper but the one that I used all purpose copy paper on wasn’t wore at all I just washed it over and over with my Reg laundry to test how the color would stay. But I’m glad you put this up for the world to see. It would be ok if your doing designs just for yourself not a business.
Happy early birthday
And I love that you did this. It just proves a lot of things
Thank you
It proves you can't trust companies! They are only interested in getting your money, they're not in business for your benefit! Same the world over.
