Hi Vince it’s Asher glad it made it there haven’t watched the whole video yet. It’s so cool you uploaded this on my Birthday hope you enjoy the raspberry Pi 👍 the pi slides out of the case from where the usb is.
My Mate VINCE ohh my gosh serves me right I tried everything. I even tested that ribbon cable haha. That’s amazing that’s why it wasn’t getting power. Guess all my years of fixing stuff and I missed that haha but super happy you got it and fixed it.
Lol, well it is nice to have a simple fix every now and then :-) It was easier than trying to get through those screens on Dragon's Lair!!!!! I don't remember that game being so hard :-) Thanks for all the other games as well - it's a great collection. Enjoy the rest of the day.
You know what I love? Is that he is so excited and happy and i love seeing his enthusiasm in this project and video. So big thanks to ASHER For making his day and probably his whole first of the year experience. Especially since its something he has never heard of xD Love this,.
Damn "Out of this World" also known as "Another world" you need to know dear Vince that this is a masterpiece of game, and i really like the artwork on the box.
I remember the first time i saw this console in a video rental store that also had games and game systems. They had all the consoles hooked up and you could play them with demo games and the 3DO video quality had me in awe by how awesome it looked. I am sure it doesn't compete with the new game systems but back then it was awesome.
3DO often gets thrown in with the Philips CD-i as one of the crappy multimedia consoles of the early 90s. However 3DO was actually a cool design created by the same people who came up with the Amiga. The founder of Electronic Arts, Trip Hawkings then formed the 3DO company to sell it. Unfortunately all the companies that they sold the license to, ended up having to sell the machine at way too high a price. Trip really believed in the machine and even left EA to try to make 3DO succeed (EA quickly turned into a monster without his lead). Personally I think 3DO is a fun machine especially if you are into cheesy Full Motion Video games.
Yeah I think it was a stupid price like £799, I remember working someone while at University in the 1990s and someone trying to tell me how wonderful it was but it was never going to succeed at that price.
3do was a pretty awesome console, it had killer graphics for its time the only downside is they really didn't make that many games for it hence why it flopped.
The 3DO was the first console I bought with my own money. It was quite difficult to get one of these here in Brazil, I saved 1000 dollars in a year to pay for a smuggler to get one of these for me. He would go abroad almost every month and for almost 2 years he'd bring me new games. Unfortunately in one of these trips he got shot on a armed robbery and died in 1997. Sad that to this day we have to rely on smugglers to bring new consoles to the country (an illegal PS4 costs only 300 dollars while an official sony ps4 with taxes costs almost 1000 dollars). Nice video btw.
As I remember during this time, Most of us kids had PCs with Win95. The 3DO was very expensive and couldn't match the functionality of the PC. Also, I believe that the game boxes were huge as to deter theft in the stores.
I had a 3DO when I was little. The games came in those huge boxes in the beginning but they switched to the smaller jewel cases later on. I don't recognize many of the games you have but there are some good games on the system. The only game you have that I had was Gex which I remember as being one of the better games. I think it was the most powerful console at the time but the price was really really high, like $650 US dollars. I was only able to watch the first bit of the video so far, I really hope you're able to fix it!
A friend of mine leant me one of this in the mid nineties when I was at Uni, I had it for about a year. It was an awesome console with some really interesting games. It was when CDROM games were just taking off so a lot of them made use of CD technology. The games i remember most were Wing Commander 3, Need For Speed (the original one!) and Return Fire. Definitely check those out!
Lost Eden was a nice game as well, give it a shot. I enjoyed that game very much as a kid and has a beautiful Moby like soundtrack. Your vid brought back memories, keep it up mate! :)
I was one of those in the uk that bought a Panasonic 3DO FZ10 in 1994 and i loved it and still have it to this day. Then the PS1 was released in 1995 and the 3DO was killed off.
As someone who was a gamer when (and before) the 3DO came out, it was a combination of price and not many compelling games. Road Rash was probably the only one I can think of that I was interested in.
A very nice "fix"/"gift unwrap" this one. Never seen one working but it really looks like CD-i gaming, well at least the ones shown. Wonder what cannon fodder looks like on that baby. Hope to see some raspberry Pi videos coming in the near future, wonder what your mind can cook up with one of those.
Fantastic pickup!!! There are some great games for the system - things like Space Hulk, Cannon Fodder, Wing Commander, Street Fighter 2 etc. No protection on these I think - pretty sure you can just burn a CD with the ISO. It might be worth removing the PSU board to check for dry solder joints (maybe on the under of the mains lead socket?). If you decide to sell any of the games please let me know! Do you keep all the things you collect - I've always wondered where you store all this stuff lol.
Cheers Chris, I will pop out the power board and have a close look. I did hear something about the lack of protection but now that emu***adise has gone I haven't looked into any other ISO websites. I do have trouble with storage, bit by bit the house is slowly getting taken over!!!! It is only a matter of time before I start getting grief :-) If you are interested in any game(s) let me know and I will send it up to you (after I have played it/them for a bit). It can be a thank you for the advice and help you dish out on here.
Excellent, thanks for sharing the info :-) I don't have a huge amount of spare time at the mo. The most things I play are PS4 (online and shareplay), and the Switch. I like testing out different controllers and stuff on different systems so the more controllers and obscure consoles I have the more options it gives :-)
No problem =D Yeah, I find myself playing PS4 mostly at the moment too! Mostly Battlefield V and COD Black Ops (Blackout) recently. Just ordered Resident Evil 2 though, looking forward to playing that.
Haha, I can relate to that! I have stuff in storage crates all over the place (mostly out of sight, but there's no more room here lol). Yeah, I don't expect anything for free - quite happy to pay! I've been after Alone in the Dark for a while! But I can understand if you decide to keep it - it's a long game but I just have so much nostalgia for it. The emuparadise thing is a pain, but there are quite a few other sites hosting ISOs still. I suspect over time they are going to get gradually shut down =/
Im looking for a good grease for my CD and DVD Based console, I got some that are very loud lense movement. so what grease do you prefere to put on the rails the lens is drifting on ?
Dragons Lair is one of my favourite arcade games. The font used for the number of lives in this version, looks a lot like one of the fonts included in Deluxe Paint for the Amiga.
awesome game collection. I remember the horde being one of the games i always wanted back in the 90s and how happy i was to play it on an emulator some years ago.
I like all of your video because you try to fix random things and thats what i like about your video. Like your channel Vince. Keep it up. 👍🏼. Done like and subscribe. 😁
Dear Vince! Is there any advice you might have for raising the optical drive array a little bit? I'm experiencing some scraping of certain CDs from the bottom on the drive bay.
Great video vince but i do agree with the guy that says that this console was working just fine and the ribbon cable was poped out intentionally just to make it interesting to you as "not working". Not that is something wrong with it, i still enjoyed the video
Really cool vid, cool to see you opening up one of the more obscure consoles. Out of this world & alone in the dark are great. Maybe an Atari Jaguar vid is on the horizon, lol
Out of this world was my favorite game on the 3do, I loved it so much that I now have it on my Nintendo switch, limited run games made it for the switch under the title "Another World" I think you'll enjoy it 😊
The laser in that 3D0 might actually be a Helium Neon Laser Tube and therefore has high voltages present inside, a Helium Neon Laser should not destroy any discs, Your LCD TV is actually a Multi-Standard LCD-TV, I do think that you are curious about how the system works but if you take the metal screen off and have a look around. I really thought that this 3DO had a Helium Neon Laser.
I just brought a 3DO off e-bay. It powered up fine and loaded the sampler disk. However when I tried a copied disk, it loaded then crashed during play. Then the console would power up with the red light and 3DO image on the screen but not allow me to open the disc tray. Now it won’t power on at all and I’ve changed the plug fuse. Any suggestions or help?
When i was younger i wanted one of these thay looked really good kept going into Dixon's were i live every weekend and watched fighting game but the name escapes me but thay were meger expensive but then i did get a play station one when thay come out nice bit of a blast from the past
I had one of these Panasonic 3DO consoles (the bigger first version). My older cousin just gave it to me one day out of the blue, I guess he got tired of it. I do remember the games that I got with the system were graphically way ahead of anything else out for the home console market at that time. Games were definitely a problem, there weren't that many and even less good ones.
Hey Vince, this is a totally unrelated question but I figured you'd be best person to ask this. Basically my tv is broken and I have a ps4 and a laptop. My laptop does not have hdmi input, its just hdmi output so I'd wanna know if there is an adaptor to make the laptop accept video input from a gaming console via the HDMI port.
I once owned the 3do FZ-1 two issues the memory gets filled by one game Star Control II and the super long load times for Samurai Showdown. Thanks for the board close up its greatly appreciated.
Hey Vince you should do a video when you put parts from random consoles to make an ULTIMATE console and name it like some xbox one and ps4 parts maybe some nintendo switch parts as well and use the kronis maxs for the controller I doubt youll see this but if you do its worth a shot keep up the good work.
I thought the license model of the 3DO turned out pretty good since most titles are at least professional looking unlike the CD-i or Amiga CD32 which got some very amateur quality software a lot of the time. I mean yeah 3DO did get Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. ^_^ Dang what a package, great way to start. :D Trip Hawkins had this crazy idea that a game console could be like a video player or microwave, unchanging with little to no hardware generations. The multi manufacturing setup did lower the 3DO cost eventually but the ever advancing console scene released the Saturn/PS1/N64 showing the obvious matter that you can't just sit still in that market. :\
Am I the only one staring at the progress bar hoping the system DOESN'T work so we can continue to listen to that matter-of-fact voice lead us through a fix? Please don't let it read the disk.......yet.
Haha, yes - I am like that too - I like a good long repair!!! I love it when there are twists and turns and new discoveries are made within the video. His GameCube video was like that the other day.
The old 3DO was my favourite in the day and i would buy the edge games magazine and the 3DO magazines also which would come with a demo cd and there was articles i read about a chip that was going to be 64 bit and plugged into the expansion slot on the 3DO that chip was going to make the system way way ahead of anything else out there but it never made it to reality and then everyone wanted a playstation but the 3DO is a more powerful system and didnt need memory cards either and if i remember correctly when you put in a music cd there was a screen that created mesmerising colour effects and you could change them with the controller.
You need to check out Return Fire, Road Rash, Need for Speed, Crash 'n Burn, Way of the Warrior, Off-World Interceptor and PO'ed. The first 4 for sure. All but CnB and WotW were on PS1, but weren't nearly as good as on 3DO.
I bought a Philips CDI player back in the 90's, cost me 500 quid, and then had to buy the motion video cartridge for an extra 250 quid, thought it was the bees knees at the time...not all retro gaming is viewed with rose tinted spectacles lol!
The 3do was far too expensive when it came out and only had a few games on release and the games library was very small add to that the ps1 come out with cheaper with alot of games on release then that was the final nail in the coffin.
Hey vince doubt you read this but hopefully someone on here can help me out too i recently bought a 3do but it came dead on arrival it powers on seems to want to read a disc but all i get when i hook it up to a tv is a black screen no matter what kind of video output is connected to it any leads would help me out thanks!
60hz in America and 59hz elsewhere. If I recall the difference between pal and the other standard is one refreshes in the north / south configuration and the other does it in the east / west configuration.
He sent you this for free!!! In my country (NZ) these go for $500 minimum, even broken ones go for around 250-300. the games are like $40 each!!!! I own a Panasonic 3DO and about 12 games. it cost me a fortune a few years ago. The Phillips one is even more expensive here. The ahem, "game" plumbers don't wear ties (a global meme by now) goes for like $60 haha
Funny thing is a Hitachi CX w700 boombox I got from eBay with a faulty cd player, was only faulty because the connector was partly out on one side. Annoyingly only realized after I had tested found it not to spin disc and bought a new laser.
Some us plugs are polarized(only goes in one way for 2 prongs) neutral pin is bigger than the hot pin, usb power supplys can plug in any direction! 3 prongs goes in one way
Very true your comment about how the PS 1 succeeded and this failed and how different it could’ve been. The 90’s were a make or break decade in the console wars that saw many casualties, even some big names like Sega and Atari. I wonder if the future is just destined to be dominated by Sony and Microsoft?
3DO was definitely sold in the UK I remember playing with one in an Electronic Boutique store years ago was about the same time frame as the Amiga console as well. I remember honestly wondering if they managed to sell any of them. Just really thinking UK power would have probably worked fine but might be wrong as I'm typing this a few min in.
Just a little tip but I refurbish and repair old consoles and if you want a nice finish just spray a little WD4O onto a soft cloth and wipe the console with it and it gives the black or darker consoles a nice finish.
@@khanv1ct244 I'd be lying if I said 100% it's safe on all plastics but I've never ran into any issues when I've used it and I've used it on various consoles like ps2's and 3's gamecubes and Saturn's and they all came up great and I've used it for years and it doesn't seem to have effected them in any way.
1. NTSC: 60Hz (USA/Japan) - PAL: 50Hz (UK/Mainland Europe/Australia) 2. The video standards of the 1990s is no longer actively enforced in modern media distribution. 3. @6:50 That is a Raspberry Pi - get a USB plug and wire, plug in the HDMI, and input devices, and you're good to go, once you have a Raspberry Pi OS installed on a microSD card. 4. The 3DO Interactive Multiplayer has no copy protection, so you can make backups and run them off the 3DO without any system mods
Hi Vince it’s Asher glad it made it there haven’t watched the whole video yet. It’s so cool you uploaded this on my Birthday hope you enjoy the raspberry Pi 👍 the pi slides out of the case from where the usb is.

@@ashersarchives Does happen to all of us. You try to fix something for hours without luck, only to fix it in seconds the next day.

Heart of the Alien was very good as well
One of my favourite game! Great catch!
I am a proud owner of a 3DO and Out of this world. great game. still holds up, if it weren't for the slow load times of the 3do =(
That was an amazing game
Hi Vince ,this must be rare as I’ve never seen one.very nice gift from Asher and very decent of him.great to watch too

~Wow yes I heard Argentina is the same. Huge taxes on imports.
Nice to see a console that has never been featured. Great item and video.
Thank you, it is definitely an interesting console :-)

What a score. A nice easy win, and I totally enjoyed your clip.

This was really a good video I have never seen one of these and what a easy fix I am sure the guy just overlooked it well enjoy you deserve it
I love my GDO! It will always remain a rare "niche" kind of product just as it was on release.
Love the reaction when you find that a single ribbon cable had to fix it all.
Greetings from Australia btw.
That is an easy fix - working very well - not missing out on anything with the model's is right
Keeps pumping them out, I enjoy them, Thanks
Cannon fodder is a brilliant game. Also worth trying to get for it is Road Rash.
I have a feeling that one of your fans just sent you a gift wrapped up inside a 'fix video' .. zero chance that ribbon just popped out by itself :)
also inside it is in mint condition
Yeah I also think this was just a fan sending in a pressie - the green PCB inside was so clean it had a mirror finish!
At least I wasn't the only one who thought that then.

RIP Panasonic 3DO, PlayStation was better 😬 great vid vince!! 🔥
So Space Ace and Dragons Lair both are point and click games choose left or right up or down
Sounding a bit rough Vince. I'm in the same boat. Well done for doing the video regardless. Get well soon.
@MyMateVince did you do a video on the Raspberry Pi with this or any Pi ?
dragon's lair was on the Spectrum as well as on the Commodore 64 back in '86
What’s the fix to fail ratio ????
Not to sure, on the older stuff I definitely have more success than failures. On the newer stuff I would say I have more failures :-)

You need to check out Return Fire, Road Rash, Need for Speed, Crash 'n Burn, Way of the Warrior, Off-World Interceptor and PO'ed. The first 4 for sure. All but CnB and WotW were on PS1, but weren't nearly as good as on 3DO.
Never heard of 3DO?........what! How? Was an amazing system for the time wish I had one now.
great video to watch
Did you say compost out? Do you put this output to your garden?
I bought a Philips CDI player back in the 90's, cost me 500 quid, and then had to buy the motion video cartridge for an extra 250 quid, thought it was the bees knees at the time...not all retro gaming is viewed with rose tinted spectacles lol!
This console looks like the phillips cdi from the same era i remember playing the demo of dragons lair in comet! lol
Most Americans didn't know these existed when they came out. And those of us who knew they existed and bought one, wished we hadn't. 😂
New TronixFix Challenge? Nice I'm on!
60hz in America and 59hz elsewhere. If I recall the difference between pal and the other standard is one refreshes in the north / south configuration and the other does it in the east / west configuration.
Great vid again. Pleeeease give us a ps3 fat 60gb teardown 👍👍👍
Furniture polish. Or a wee touch of WD-40. Makes the plastic cases look nice :)
The best NFS you'd ever play. Memories.
I've heard of them, my mate had one. They had they to play test in my local Future Zone back in the day.
You're going to love the Raspberry Pi, especially so if he has loaded retropie onto it. If not you should do it ASAP :D
Yeah, I am already thinking of the possible set ups using my little 1080p portable monitor :-)
I wish “Plumbers don’t wear ties” was there lol
AVGN!!!
On the US plugs there can be a bigger prong, if that is the case than polarity matters.
I had the version with the front loading tray.loved space hulk and road rash and way of the warrior.
I had Dragons Lair on the Spectrum. Wow it was awful!
Hard as buggery too!!
3 prongs goes in one way
The ribbon cable wtf XD Easiest fix in life :D
Vince , also look for any leakage from the electrolytic caps, usually seen as gunge on the PCB traces .
Haha, what sort of "Game" did you think 'Super Models Go Wild" was going to be! :-)
lol, I thought it might be more like a 'Leisure Suit Larry' type of game rather than just eye candy :-)
@@Mymatevince I believe you Vince....thousands wouldn't ;-) (I do remember 'Leisure Suit Larry' though)
One of the best consoles back then, i had a front loader with Road Rash and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Just a little tip but I refurbish and repair old consoles and if you want a nice finish just spray a little WD4O onto a soft cloth and wipe the console with it and it gives the black or darker consoles a nice finish.
scoobytim129 isn’t WD40 REALLY BAD for certain plastics though?
@@khanv1ct244 I'd be lying if I said 100% it's safe on all plastics but I've never ran into any issues when I've used it and I've used it on various consoles like ps2's and 3's gamecubes and Saturn's and they all came up great and I've used it for years and it doesn't seem to have effected them in any way.
@@scoobytim129 Are they ABS plastic?
Best unpacking a have ever seen😂
1. NTSC: 60Hz (USA/Japan) - PAL: 50Hz (UK/Mainland Europe/Australia)
It’s not a bad game consoles really Iv got 3 of them great video as usual
Is there road rash in there?
