Wow this video is really really good. I really appreciate that you've provided examples of every single point. I study linguistics and Finnish literature, and I never know how to make Anki cards. I always use the Base type of card (Q on the front, A on the back) but it's frustrating and demotivating to learn like this. And, like you said, it's more rote memorisation than learning. Asking why takes more time, but, at this point, I don't even know what else to do. Things just don't stick otherwise, at least in my opinion. It's something that we all do with topics we are passionate about, but not for anything else. Sometimes the Feynman technique is too time consuming, especially if you follow it meticulously, but the underlying principle is essential.
honestly it does look like you have done quite a lot of work that is shareable. yes indeed your cards are made for yourself and specified to trigger the reliving of ideas wherever that is relevant. still it is categorized data
Hi, I've found out your channel recently. You have very great and motivational videos. I don't know if you talked about this topic but wolud be great if you talk about how to study 2 languages at the same time and can be a great video. In my case I'm studying English/Japaneses like you with your Spanish/Chinese and have some questions can be interesting for some video: - Did you started with this 2 laguanges at the same time from scratch? - How to manage the time every day to study both languages? - Is it possible to get very fluent in both languages at the same time and how to do it?. Thanks you for read my comment and keep it up. (Sorrry for my mistakes in English)
I started learning Spanish in 2017 from highschool classes, and Mandarin in 2018 college classes. Managing my time and motivation has been something I've struggled with over the past 3 years. Tracking my time in Google Sheets has helped, as well as setting my goal as a small task for each day. It's 100% possible to become fluent in two languages at the same time. You don't have to do anything special other than setting aside more time out of your day.
Hi @Willy12294 Yeah it's definitely a great topic. In my case, I'm learning English and Italian at the same time. I think it's important that you have reached a certain level at one of your target languages. I'm using the laddering technique, which means, that while I am learning Italian I am improving my English as well because I don't use my mother tongue when learning Italian (looking up words in an Italian-English dictionary etc.) Happy learning. Cheers, Daniel.
Very instructive as usual. Great! How do you get new words to make your flashcards in your language self learning process? Do you use any AI algorithm for making them?
Good, Here’s a note: The value of positive criticism tends towards zero. - Derek from Veritasium In that way because I want to give you valuable criticism. Your delivery was a bit monotonous and there was a sharp hissing background noise. My real comment, this was excellent and you will do well young human I’m excited to see you grow.
The sharp hissing noise was my laptop fans ramping up because of the recording. Maybe next time I'll record in 1080p 30fps instead of 60fps to hopefully lower the sound. I'll also experiment with adding a low pass to decrease the high frequencies. I have addressed my monotonous delivery in the past. It's difficult for me to use my hands and speak with emotions without feeling like coming across as fake. I want to act as my authentic self, but maybe I have to change my authentic self first to not come across as fake. Criticism means that you care. Thank you!
Maybe just invest in a microphone set up, even a lapel, or usb mic would be a good start, before dropping a lot of money. You could also experiment with using your phone at first as well. Also if you just record a good audio sample of your laptop hiss, you can profile and remove it using Audacity. This will cause some distortion, but usually it's not too bad, especially if you take a long sample. @@GiovanniSmith
@@GiovanniSmith i like your honesty, but i can add - if you don't want to move hands for jestures or speak with emotions, please - use some intonation, at least start sentenses from the top and use downward descending from top to down intonation, so we subcontiously understand when you start and end to speak the sentence. And you can keep your robotic rythm so you dont feel like a liar. All the best
I make most of my cards manually, and have some premade decks. When I'm going through online textbooks on Astronomy and Chemistry, reading random stuff on Wikipedia or finding cool quotes on GoodReads, I create those cards manually. For Astronomy, Chemistry and Wikipedia, I rephrase the idea in my own words. For GoodReads quotes, I copy the entire quote, but sometimes remove unnecessary sentences. My premade decks include geography (countries, capitals, and bodies of water), classical morphemes (Latin and Greek roots), and Mandarin chengyu. I also like learning the regions of countries, and since I haven't found a premade deck that has it for all countries, I make those cards myself.
I stopped making chess cards with Anki. I think the way I will improve is just by playing lots of games, not by reviewing cards. However, I do think it's useful if I would want to memorize the name of a specific opening.
I'm just starting my adventure with serious learning, and while I was searching for how to display my Anki streak to keep track of it in the future, I didn't find it in your video. However, your video was so interesting that I stayed until the end. It opened my mind to the fact that I've been studying incorrectly, and I will use these methods in my learning.
Still can't believe this channel has only 2,5k subs. Very interesting and thought provoking videos!
Your passion for learning is contagious, keep it up!
This is the best youtube video I've seen in a long time, and I've watched a lot of youtube
Great job young man! Inspiring!
This channel is super intresting. Im going to take your advice on learning.
Very insightful as usual. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing how you are using Anki! Thanks for the effort to write the script!
Great video as usual. Thanks buddy !!

I get new words from the material that I read and watch.
He did his reps
Hej Smitthy, any tutorials on how to use anki productively?
You should start selling your anki decks. If you did like $30 dollars per deck you could be making at least $500 a month.
Good,

Do you make all your Anki cards manually or do you have an automatized workflow? Do you use note taking software such as Obsidian, Emacs, etc.?

can u drop the link of the latin and greek roots deck?
Hi, how its going with your chess learning with Anki?

Hey, my friend! Do you use a mobile version of Anki as well? :)
Yes, I paid the one-time $25 payment on iOS, and it's one of the best investments I've made in terms of convenience.
I'm just starting my adventure with serious learning, and while I was searching for how to display my Anki streak to keep track of it in the future, I didn't find it in your video.
