Yep, same, so I had to go on Naval warfare with these mtfks. Garrison your guarding towers on the West base with Xbows, lure the rest of their ship to your towers so they can be shot down (there won't be a lot since their limited population has been spent on land units). Build Galleons and Canon Galleons to clear the docks, then sweep their beach bases. Train Elephants, Trebs and Xbows to clean up the rest.
Well done Ornlu ! I must admit that for me it's the hardest scenario in tis game. It took me at least 10 tries to win. At the end, I took down the Vietnamese base quickly (when you destroy the 2 castles they resign) and then I brought Bayinnaung to the temples. When I get all the ressources, I first attacked the Portugese. With 48 elite éléphants, no building could stand. Then I converted the feitorias (Portugese don't have heresy in this mission I don't know why). But after that, my army was pretty dead and I had to destroy the last rakhine state in the west.
I invaded north with eastern army. It’s important to keep your trebs alive. Take out Portuguese castles and wonder with trebs after defeating yellows castles and use monks to convert the praitorias or whatever they’re called. Now you can cheese it with tower invasion. Also use you navy to destroy as much as you can. The bombard cannons can hit a ton of enemy buildings and castles.
I know it's a year on but i just finished this campaign and it was very satisfying! Mission 5 was a bit tough! But if you simultaneously attack both sides and micro manage as soon as you get you money its just such a fun mission! Take your time and enjoy it... some of the hardest missions are on the Poland campaign in my opinion! I enjoy your campaigns Ornlu cheers mate
I did it 2 days ago, on Hard. Very rewarding scenario once you devise a plan. I went to rush the Vietnamese base 2 Castles(and they resign), and then also 2 more yellow Castles north of them, close to Portuguese. On the left side of map after doing the "Normandy" landing, I killed 4 Castles, and to my surprise, the 2 remaining Rakhine factions were defeated, even though I hadn't yet cleared the 3 middle Castles (the ones where the 1st and 2nd meditations are). After that the scenario was a breeze.
Thanks a lot for this alternate strategy! Indeed, taking out those specific castles make all the Rakhine factions resign. Once Bayinnaung finishes his meditations and you get the resources, the Portuguese can be then taken out by ships alone, which is really easy.
do it again... i think they made the campaign harder, because you didnt get any portuguese waves, from behind. specially on 2nd wonder. lots of pikes and xbow. Really changes everything because counter everything you have...
@@DosCaracteres I kept the son of the Cakkavatti in the main base and the Portuguese still attacked and harried me... I suffered tons of losses because of that )= I hated every part of this mission... except when the Cakkavatti becomes "one with the force" and expires. It was epic af!
@@Kriegerdammerung - The trick is to destroy the Portuguese first. Snipe its 3 Feitoria from the sea. And also keep your knights safe and healed because those are your only defense against rattan archers. Also, try to convert as many Malay elephants as you can while you wait in the defensive stance, in your eastern base. Try to convert at least 20-30 elephants. Kill the Portuguese quickly, but keep the Malay alive, so that you can convert more and more elephants. You need to keep fighting only from the sea for 1 hour. Only then you can take Bayinnaung out for meditation. Make sure to leave the second monastery very quickly, because that's where they attack you the most. You will loose 50% of you army at the second monastery. In the third monastery you shall face hit and run attack - you can use your knights there -save all your knights until the 3rd monastery.
This one is really shit for me. I played first time today 2022.05.09. Portuguese are really following you everywhere. Everytime I failed when I play this 5 campaign for Burmese. I need baby steps to help me. I play hard mode.
Wait y'all got resources?? I sort of cheesed this the 2nd time around through a long route. Took out the Portuguese with the navy first then the aggressors just below them. After that it was a slow grind destroying the remaining yellow forces one by one & converting their elephants. Once everything was turned to rubble I just went back & meditated all 4 spots.
I have Aoe2 HD and play on the standard/moderate level about 10 times now and still cannot complete this mission. Try a different strategy each time and my army gets crushed between pink and yellow. Tried going to pink with my navy first to take down towers and docks....damn monks come out and convert my ships so that they turn on each other. You lose your trebs....need to start over, lose your monks, need to start over, lose your cannoneers and/or navy....yup, start all over again. This mission really pisses me off. I wish someone could post a 3 to 4 hour video step-by-step of what to do to complete this mission.
So we have reached the end of the journey, well done Ornlu :) Bayinngaung 5 has always been one of the more "epic" campigns in mind, it's not just the unit spam but it's exciting, challenging yet fun to play unlike ones like last Binzyad campaign. Also it felt like this one showed the full might of Burmese :D I still miss the old Honfoglalás kind of epic, long and creative campaigns :( [maybe not fight post-imp Huns with castle age though] Hopefully Ornlu we can find some awesome custom campaigns!
i think they fix this mission, if i play this i get attackt from everywhere, purple always attack with inf and navy and every singel yellow player is attacking me, at the 3. wonder i got like 20 army left and i get complete rekt. Maybe you can replay it and show it on YT its complete pain to play now
Is it me or the AI is barely attacking his army! like when i play this i get swarms of rakhine and portugese troops rushing towards my main army i can never treb the docks and lose lots of my army in the process
My strategy was to go west to east with my navy (cannon galleons) taking out towers and castles. Then, from the main base, push north and destroy castles. By the time my army made it to the Portuguese, my navy was almost finished eradicating them, and I captured the feitorias. After that, mop up any remaining castles/wonders and get everyone to resign, then send Bayinnaung on his way.
Would someone explain why this is so infamous? After hearing everything about it, I was terrified, but it seemed more like a walk in the park. The enemies didn't produce that many units, and most of them sat dormant until approached. There are many castles, but you tear them down pretty quickly with all the trebuchets. I don't want to brag or anything. I just don't understand. The setup is "go and destroy". You cannot build anything without resources, so the only thing left to do is just to go out and break shit, and thus there's no time for the enemies to build up.
I play the easy mode. I started off by defeating both Rakhine base at the north and the Portuguese base with the troops I had at the start, because these 2 armies are always annoying. They always send troops to attack my army. So I stopped them by harming them first. Hahaha. I also brought the troops on the boats to join with my army. I also used the Cannon Galleon to destroy the Portuguese catles and wonders. But I had to be careful of their fire ships and galleons. After that I cleared the troops at the 1st and 2nd Wonders. After that, I destroyed the Rakhine base at the south. What I discovered was after defeating 2 Rakhine bases, the north Rakhine will resign. So I just had to cleared the troops at the 3rd and the 4th Wonders. So Bayinnaung can meditate peacefully without any random attack from any enemy. I dare not to play the hard mode. It's so stressful for me. Hahaha. Well done. Thanks for the video and the strategies you shared.
I've beaten more than 15 campaigns thus far on moderate with the achievements and most of them were pretty easy but this goddamn mission, help me step-bro, I'm stuck. I have no idea. I'll always either lose a hero or the bombard cannons while I'm busy doing 50 other things and I'm completely screwed. You thought Joan of Arc campaign was hard? You are like a little baby play this
Probs not worth making a vid on but here are my personal favs/least favs: Favorites: Mongols, Mayans, Malians, Persians, Spanish (I also think all the new civs are pretty fun, though that might be because they're new :P) Least Favorites: Now that Khmer and Vietnamese were buffed, I actually don't dislike any of the civs. But before those two got buffed, them 100% lol
I went ahead and destroyed all bases with the starting army, before I did the meditation. It was close, but I ended up with a handful of elephants and 2 trebs left.
so i actually beat this with a very slow approach, i just went to the temples by destroying everything and by the time i destroyed 2 of the 3 rhakine factions the 3rd (most west) one just surrendered to me without me even having to fight them and use my army in the west. When he completed meditation only the portuguese were left and i swept them with the resources you get. How you did this is completely different lol btw this was only possible because i just kept converting everything (including monks) the rhakine and portuguese threw at me with a monk army
This campaign is hard if you dont know what to do. You need to attack with both armies at the same time and dont bother with micro. Then on the next step if you cant handle the mass spam just do the rest by sea and leave some resources to finish by land.
It seems that instead of going south we can eliminate the Rakhine up North by destroying their two castles. Then continue North and destroy another two castles of the other Rakhine. If we micro well enough we can even kill Portugal by destroying their castle and wonder. The other naval army should just destroy the first two castles using Bombards and then drop the entire army to kill the middle castle. If everything fails the backup is to complete the wonder tour, get resources and amass a huge navy of cannon galleons and bombard everyone to death.
I don't understand why the mission is set up this way. How can they pit you against an enemy with infinite resources without giving you an economy? I think the last mission of most campaigns should include the ability to research everything in your tech tree (and depending on the campaign maybe additional units not normally in there like hand cannoneers for a hypothetical Qing campaign), and the ability to replace losses. That doesn't mean infinite resources, it could just be the ability to make your own buildings and sell food for gold to supplement a single relic. Granted a lot of single player only people would not figure it out. At least 7 times I've heard someone complain about not enough gold mines on a map and I asked "how much food did you have when you ran out of gold" and the answer was "over 3000." I'm not saying every mission should be a base mission or that the final mission shouldn't be hard, I just think you should be able to replace losses. At least they were kind enough to allow healing... now I've got some choice words about even medium difficulty missions that cut you off from healing and replenishment before you get a base if that time is at least 30 minutes long since that could mean restarting the entire mission.
This is one of the easiest missions, even on hard difficulty, if you don't do it the way it's supposed to, like in this video. Just garrison Bayinnaung in one of the castles, pick up his army, and instead of going down to clear the temple, just go west and siege the orange faction, before he gets too strong, it's totally easy, I destroyed him without losing any troops, actually converted some of his in the process. Then just go on with the same army and siege the purple faction, the Portuguese, I lost just a few troops, something in range of 3 while destroying him. Just stay clear of the shore, he's gonna have quite a navy by now and give your land troops quite a beating with cannon galleons and carracks. Don't try fighting his navy with your navy, he'll destroy your navy easily. After sieging down all his military buildings and docks with trebuchets, he'll resign and the forces on the island can disembark now, in the ex Portuguese base. Since only the Portuguese and the orange, Vietnamese, are gonna actively send troops to attack you, now you're safe to proceed with destroying the blue player. He's gonna behave like a neutral player, only the troops nearby are gonna attack you, and if you start sieging his buildings, only the troops he has immediately around are gonna try to stop you. Destroying the blue player is harder than the orange, less than the Portuguese. If you use your monks and micromanage a little, you can convert a lot of his elephants. After destroying the blue player, go on attacking the yellow player. He's also gonna behave like a neutral player, but stay away from his fortified town, just clear all his military buildings and economy buildings outside. You can also convert his elephants and ratha chariots. After clearing everything, the hardest part is destroying the yellow player's fortified town. He's gonna have a lot of troops inside by now, elephants, elephant archers, ratha chariots, halberdiers, monks, and if you attack any of his buildings inside the base or in the immediate vicinity of it, he's gonna retaliate with everything he has inside the base. So, here, you can either just think of some smart play to siege his base, or you can just ungarrison Bayinnaung now and let him do his meditations and have a convenience of being able to produce troops and build buildings. In any case, it's smart to think in advance, so, when I destroyed the Portuguese, one of his feitorias was left when he resigned, so I converted it, it actually gives you resources immediately unlike relics which don't give you gold during the first part of the mission. If you stay clear of destroying any of his feitorias, you're gonna have three of them after you convert them. Collecting relics is smart, even if they don't produce gold immediately, just garrison them in your church for later and for denying enemies this source of gold. There are a lot of relics in this mission. Converting leftover villagers, houses, markets etc. and all other leftover buildings from defeated players is also smart, you may need them later. Since you now have resources from feitorias, you can at least use your villagers to repair your ships and siege equipment. Anyways, if you decide to let him mediate and then buildup, you're gonna have tons of resources by now, produced by your three feitorias. That's the way I'd do it now. Instead, I went on to siege his base and managed to destroy his town center, all of his villagers, castle, and some of his military buildings. But he ended up destroying all of my troops, more than 120 and I was left only with my navy, converted villagers and Bayinnaung, so I let him do his meditations now, he was not gonna be attacked by anyone around the first three temples. For the fourth one, I just yolo'd and went for it but found it guarded by two elephants and a halberdier, so I just converted one elephant, turns out Bayinnaung can take quite a beating since he converted one elephant while being attacked by all three units at the same time. Anyways, I micromanaged it a little, my new elephant ended up killing the other elephant and halberdier and it turned out these were the last troops the yellow player had so he just resigned and after completing the meditation the mission was won. I was actually able to let him mediate before attacking the base, everything was clear, and I had tons of soldiers to protect him, so I'd do that if I were to play it again.
Ok, I actually tried just letting him mediate without destroying the yellow fortified town, and it just said I've won. I dunno, I thought the final objective was destroying all the enemies, but I won with the yellow player still active.
Here's how I did it on moderate. Immediately take all of the eastern army and treb down the Vietnamese castle, so that the AI doesn't produce trebs. Retreat all of the eastern army back to the eastern base, and garrison all 20 arambai in the castle. The increased arrows will hold off the enemies for a long time. Keep your vills in the small cliff area behind that castle. The Portuguese and Rakhine will constantly invade the eastern base so your castle will distract them from going into the city and attacking your western army. Then land your western army on the beach in the west and start slowly destroying all enemy buildings in the western part of the city, pausing frequently to heal with your monks and to micro any enemies that come near. Once you have pushed far enough with the western army, you can sneak the eastern army down the bottom right edge of the map and unite the 2 armies. If you destroyed all of the city with the western army, there will literally be no enemies at all that come for you while you meditate (except for the temple that is close to the shore in the middle of the map. When you unlock your resources, get all upgrades and immediately have your eastern villagers start repairing the castle, which should be highly damaged. Train a bunch of galleons and canon galleons and destroy all enemy buildings within range, which will defeat the Portuguese and most of the Rakhine buildings will be gone. Then make the final push with your army to finish off the Rakhine.
This mission is very simple on hard. Do not meditate! Then there is no trigger and no attack. Your beginner army is very strong enough und you have 5 trebuchets!
Huge GG for finishing these so easily. (I know this comment is kinda late). For me though, i really dislike this whole campaign. It's just bad. This mission alone is terrible to play on hard for me, and the fourth mission is kinda tricky before the first town, but after that you can pretty much stomp everything. The third mission is either just annoying or an easy cheese. The first mission is mediocre and the second mission is either really hard, or really easy when you just know where everything is and just run over everything at the start. Easily the worst campaign ive played in Aoe2.
I'll just point this out since I just finished this recently on hard. It seems like the bottom base gets attacked if the elephant hero unit stays there. So keeping him there helps ease difficulty.
I ended up with destroying all production building for Portuguese. I used two monks on small island. But church left. However doesn’t send troops to attacks me. I eliminated Vietnamese only player 3 and 4: Malays left which only number 4 is attracting my base on the East. I can only convert their battle elephants to have enough and attack Nr 4 Malays. But it’s slow winning. However I control my east base and shooting arrow killing all small units. Monks collect all extra elephants. That the hardest scenario for me.
Actuely its easier to atack bases if you destroy 2 castles at vietnamies base ai resighs than you destory 2 castles in base in north and you use bombars to destroy 1st castle near island and you use other transport ships to land near 4th castle soon as you destroy all 4 castles both yelow ai resighs and you can send that hero to meditate or you could go to portugese and destroy castle and wonder and last ai resighns as well
lolwat you get control of those buildings AND resources?! I just completed this scenario today and I thought the devs were trolling the players. So I CONQUERED everyone with the starting army. Only on Standard difficulty but it was still a bitch to do. For my first three tries I gathered information then on the fourth I put a plan into action. Look at this shit, when all I had to do was push forward and let him meditate: (Guess I'm not the only one though considering that only 1.8% of people have the achievement) The Plan: Storm Northern Yellow, destroying their Castles to force a surrender then retreat back to base (This because they get some OP Defensive buffs for their Rattan archers) Use the Navy to destroy Purple's Navy as well as their towers and Wonder to force a surrender Use the Navy *very* carefully to destroy every dock and mid Yellow's castles Use the Army to destroy and kill any Castles and Hostiles at the first and second temples. Plant the remaining army at the western gate of Mid Yellows base (To prevent Western Yellow's attacks) Use the secondary Army (from the sea) to attack the Northern part of Northern Yellow's base where two more Castles remain. Being very careful not to destroy any houses or other structures. Clear out any stragglers remaining in Northern Yellow's base Use the limited Priests to convert one Feitoria then Northern Yellow's Military buildings and houses Once enough houses and pop space is available, convert the remaining Feitoria's and start replacing lost military units Conquer the remaining enemy forces Use max strength Elephants and Horse Archers to escort the old bastard to his temples along with the Priests Victory
ive lost everything except west island building after all meditations, orange and purp was creating so much troops, sources wasnt enough to defend my south base, and ive found at north some soldiers and 2 monks with relics, ive lost all relics on south and buildings destroyed, i go to eat about 20 mins, and when come back, i saw orange and purp came to island, i turn this game with only monks, with converted cannon ships, there was suicide ships, i used cannon and run away, because suicide ships so fast, 1 hit and run, i put monks on island, captured suicide ships, maybe 200 monks i lost, at last i won the game, they destroyed all docks, so i converted their carrier ships, when you capture their ship, inside soldiers not changing color, i click and change them 1 by 1, because it took 4 hours. they have unlimited sources!!!!! btw purp resign when lost all buildings to my cannons (which i steal from orange) killed all army=) it was real challenge, my face become red and think 2 times close the game
Unlike release version they "only" get unlimited food which is enough to continually keep 3 stables making cavaliers plus a bit of change if they sell some food for gold, so most of their economy is now raidable.
They changed yellow to Bengali and man they are so irritating. Nonstop elephants roaming on you and their OP ass charriot and infinite post-imp monks. They convert my whole army before i can even reach them. I just hate no build missions with limited reasources and 1v4 when all enemies are just sending steams of units at you.
It is so frustrant to have to play it more than once to win. You must know all the enemies and the map, and that has no sense. The game was always beautiful but this definitive edition is bullshit.
AoE II is my favorite game of all time, but the not original campaigns are totally shit, absolutely and objectively shit. A lot of campaigns are RPG with turns more than a Real Time Strategy and resources managing. Are so fucking hard and so fucking boring.

so why dont the portugese attack you while visiting the templs?
Looks like he leaves his hero elephant back in base so the AI paths to that. their army of halbs and xbows just gets chewed up by the castle.
Is it me or the AI is barely attacking his army! like when i play this i get swarms of rakhine and portugese troops rushing towards my main army i can never treb the docks and lose lots of my army in the process

My strategy was to go west to east with my navy (cannon galleons) taking out towers and castles. Then, from the main base, push north and destroy castles. By the time my army made it to the Portuguese, my navy was almost finished eradicating them, and I captured the feitorias. After that, mop up any remaining castles/wonders and get everyone to resign, then send Bayinnaung on his way.
sadly that only works on standard difficulty. it seems like they don't give us cannon galleons on moderate and hard.

Would someone explain why this is so infamous? After hearing everything about it, I was terrified, but it seemed more like a walk in the park. The enemies didn't produce that many units, and most of them sat dormant until approached. There are many castles, but you tear them down pretty quickly with all the trebuchets. I don't want to brag or anything. I just don't understand. The setup is "go and destroy". You cannot build anything without resources, so the only thing left to do is just to go out and break shit, and thus there's no time for the enemies to build up.
I play the easy mode. I started off by defeating both Rakhine base at the north and the Portuguese base with the troops I had at the start, because these 2 armies are always annoying. They always send troops to attack my army. So I stopped them by harming them first. Hahaha. I also brought the troops on the boats to join with my army. I also used the Cannon Galleon to destroy the Portuguese catles and wonders. But I had to be careful of their fire ships and galleons. After that I cleared the troops at the 1st and 2nd Wonders. After that, I destroyed the Rakhine base at the south. What I discovered was after defeating 2 Rakhine bases, the north Rakhine will resign. So I just had to cleared the troops at the 3rd and the 4th Wonders. So Bayinnaung can meditate peacefully without any random attack from any enemy.
I dare not to play the hard mode. It's so stressful for me. Hahaha.

I've beaten more than 15 campaigns thus far on moderate with the achievements and most of them were pretty easy but this goddamn mission, help me step-bro, I'm stuck. I have no idea. I'll always either lose a hero or the bombard cannons while I'm busy doing 50 other things and I'm completely screwed. You thought Joan of Arc campaign was hard? You are like a little baby play this

Favorites: Mongols, Mayans, Malians, Persians, Spanish (I also think all the new civs are pretty fun, though that might be because they're new :P)
Least Favorites: Now that Khmer and Vietnamese were buffed, I actually don't dislike any of the civs. But before those two got buffed, them 100% lol

You did well, though i'd say its easier to destroy the two northern enemies by water, but i guess thats just my preference.
I went ahead and destroyed all bases with the starting army, before I did the meditation. It was close, but I ended up with a handful of elephants and 2 trebs left.
so i actually beat this with a very slow approach, i just went to the temples by destroying everything and by the time i destroyed 2 of the 3 rhakine factions the 3rd (most west) one just surrendered to me without me even having to fight them and use my army in the west. When he completed meditation only the portuguese were left and i swept them with the resources you get. How you did this is completely different lol
btw this was only possible because i just kept converting everything (including monks) the rhakine and portuguese threw at me with a monk army
This campaign is hard if you dont know what to do. You need to attack with both armies at the same time and dont bother with micro. Then on the next step if you cant handle the mass spam just do the rest by sea and leave some resources to finish by land.

I got all the way through to where he gets all 4 and dies and then nothing happens. I slowly lost troops for a while and gave up. Buggy game
It seems that instead of going south we can eliminate the Rakhine up North by destroying their two castles. Then continue North and destroy another two castles of the other Rakhine. If we micro well enough we can even kill Portugal by destroying their castle and wonder. The other naval army should just destroy the first two castles using Bombards and then drop the entire army to kill the middle castle. If everything fails the backup is to complete the wonder tour, get resources and amass a huge navy of cannon galleons and bombard everyone to death.
I don't understand why the mission is set up this way. How can they pit you against an enemy with infinite resources without giving you an economy? I think the last mission of most campaigns should include the ability to research everything in your tech tree (and depending on the campaign maybe additional units not normally in there like hand cannoneers for a hypothetical Qing campaign), and the ability to replace losses. That doesn't mean infinite resources, it could just be the ability to make your own buildings and sell food for gold to supplement a single relic. Granted a lot of single player only people would not figure it out. At least 7 times I've heard someone complain about not enough gold mines on a map and I asked "how much food did you have when you ran out of gold" and the answer was "over 3000." I'm not saying every mission should be a base mission or that the final mission shouldn't be hard, I just think you should be able to replace losses. At least they were kind enough to allow healing... now I've got some choice words about even medium difficulty missions that cut you off from healing and replenishment before you get a base if that time is at least 30 minutes long since that could mean restarting the entire mission.
This is one of the easiest missions, even on hard difficulty, if you don't do it the way it's supposed to, like in this video. Just garrison Bayinnaung in one of the castles, pick up his army, and instead of going down to clear the temple, just go west and siege the orange faction, before he gets too strong, it's totally easy, I destroyed him without losing any troops, actually converted some of his in the process. Then just go on with the same army and siege the purple faction, the Portuguese, I lost just a few troops, something in range of 3 while destroying him. Just stay clear of the shore, he's gonna have quite a navy by now and give your land troops quite a beating with cannon galleons and carracks. Don't try fighting his navy with your navy, he'll destroy your navy easily. After sieging down all his military buildings and docks with trebuchets, he'll resign and the forces on the island can disembark now, in the ex Portuguese base. Since only the Portuguese and the orange, Vietnamese, are gonna actively send troops to attack you, now you're safe to proceed with destroying the blue player. He's gonna behave like a neutral player, only the troops nearby are gonna attack you, and if you start sieging his buildings, only the troops he has immediately around are gonna try to stop you. Destroying the blue player is harder than the orange, less than the Portuguese. If you use your monks and micromanage a little, you can convert a lot of his elephants. After destroying the blue player, go on attacking the yellow player. He's also gonna behave like a neutral player, but stay away from his fortified town, just clear all his military buildings and economy buildings outside. You can also convert his elephants and ratha chariots. After clearing everything, the hardest part is destroying the yellow player's fortified town. He's gonna have a lot of troops inside by now, elephants, elephant archers, ratha chariots, halberdiers, monks, and if you attack any of his buildings inside the base or in the immediate vicinity of it, he's gonna retaliate with everything he has inside the base. So, here, you can either just think of some smart play to siege his base, or you can just ungarrison Bayinnaung now and let him do his meditations and have a convenience of being able to produce troops and build buildings. In any case, it's smart to think in advance, so, when I destroyed the Portuguese, one of his feitorias was left when he resigned, so I converted it, it actually gives you resources immediately unlike relics which don't give you gold during the first part of the mission. If you stay clear of destroying any of his feitorias, you're gonna have three of them after you convert them. Collecting relics is smart, even if they don't produce gold immediately, just garrison them in your church for later and for denying enemies this source of gold. There are a lot of relics in this mission. Converting leftover villagers, houses, markets etc. and all other leftover buildings from defeated players is also smart, you may need them later. Since you now have resources from feitorias, you can at least use your villagers to repair your ships and siege equipment. Anyways, if you decide to let him mediate and then buildup, you're gonna have tons of resources by now, produced by your three feitorias. That's the way I'd do it now. Instead, I went on to siege his base and managed to destroy his town center, all of his villagers, castle, and some of his military buildings. But he ended up destroying all of my troops, more than 120 and I was left only with my navy, converted villagers and Bayinnaung, so I let him do his meditations now, he was not gonna be attacked by anyone around the first three temples. For the fourth one, I just yolo'd and went for it but found it guarded by two elephants and a halberdier, so I just converted one elephant, turns out Bayinnaung can take quite a beating since he converted one elephant while being attacked by all three units at the same time. Anyways, I micromanaged it a little, my new elephant ended up killing the other elephant and halberdier and it turned out these were the last troops the yellow player had so he just resigned and after completing the meditation the mission was won. I was actually able to let him mediate before attacking the base, everything was clear, and I had tons of soldiers to protect him, so I'd do that if I were to play it again.
Ok, I actually tried just letting him mediate without destroying the yellow fortified town, and it just said I've won. I dunno, I thought the final objective was destroying all the enemies, but I won with the yellow player still active.
Here's how I did it on moderate. Immediately take all of the eastern army and treb down the Vietnamese castle, so that the AI doesn't produce trebs. Retreat all of the eastern army back to the eastern base, and garrison all 20 arambai in the castle. The increased arrows will hold off the enemies for a long time. Keep your vills in the small cliff area behind that castle. The Portuguese and Rakhine will constantly invade the eastern base so your castle will distract them from going into the city and attacking your western army. Then land your western army on the beach in the west and start slowly destroying all enemy buildings in the western part of the city, pausing frequently to heal with your monks and to micro any enemies that come near. Once you have pushed far enough with the western army, you can sneak the eastern army down the bottom right edge of the map and unite the 2 armies. If you destroyed all of the city with the western army, there will literally be no enemies at all that come for you while you meditate (except for the temple that is close to the shore in the middle of the map. When you unlock your resources, get all upgrades and immediately have your eastern villagers start repairing the castle, which should be highly damaged. Train a bunch of galleons and canon galleons and destroy all enemy buildings within range, which will defeat the Portuguese and most of the Rakhine buildings will be gone. Then make the final push with your army to finish off the Rakhine.

This mission is very simple on hard. Do not meditate! Then there is no trigger and no attack. Your beginner army is very strong enough und you have 5 trebuchets!
Huge GG for finishing these so easily. (I know this comment is kinda late). For me though, i really dislike this whole campaign. It's just bad. This mission alone is terrible to play on hard for me, and the fourth mission is kinda tricky before the first town, but after that you can pretty much stomp everything. The third mission is either just annoying or an easy cheese. The first mission is mediocre and the second mission is either really hard, or really easy when you just know where everything is and just run over everything at the start. Easily the worst campaign ive played in Aoe2.
I'll just point this out since I just finished this recently on hard. It seems like the bottom base gets attacked if the elephant hero unit stays there. So keeping him there helps ease difficulty.
Keep him around the castle and it'll absorb some raids?

I ended up with destroying all production building for Portuguese. I used two monks on small island. But church left. However doesn’t send troops to attacks me. I eliminated Vietnamese only player 3 and 4: Malays left which only number 4 is attracting my base on the East. I can only convert their battle elephants to have enough and attack Nr 4 Malays. But it’s slow winning. However I control my east base and shooting arrow killing all small units. Monks collect all extra elephants. That the hardest scenario for me.
Actuely its easier to atack bases if you destroy 2 castles at vietnamies base ai resighs than you destory 2 castles in base in north and you use bombars to destroy 1st castle near island and you use other transport ships to land near 4th castle soon as you destroy all 4 castles both yelow ai resighs and you can send that hero to meditate or you could go to portugese and destroy castle and wonder and last ai resighns as well

lolwat you get control of those buildings AND resources?! I just completed this scenario today and I thought the devs were trolling the players. So I CONQUERED everyone with the starting army. Only on Standard difficulty but it was still a bitch to do. For my first three tries I gathered information then on the fourth I put a plan into action.
Look at this shit, when all I had to do was push forward and let him meditate:
(Guess I'm not the only one though considering that only 1.8% of people have the achievement)
The Plan:
Storm Northern Yellow, destroying their Castles to force a surrender then retreat back to base (This because they get some OP Defensive buffs for their Rattan archers)
Use the Navy to destroy Purple's Navy as well as their towers and Wonder to force a surrender
Use the Navy *very* carefully to destroy every dock and mid Yellow's castles
Use the Army to destroy and kill any Castles and Hostiles at the first and second temples. Plant the remaining army at the western gate of Mid Yellows base (To prevent Western Yellow's attacks)
Use the secondary Army (from the sea) to attack the Northern part of Northern Yellow's base where two more Castles remain. Being very careful not to destroy any houses or other structures.
Clear out any stragglers remaining in Northern Yellow's base
Use the limited Priests to convert one Feitoria then Northern Yellow's Military buildings and houses
Once enough houses and pop space is available, convert the remaining Feitoria's and start replacing lost military units
Conquer the remaining enemy forces
Use max strength Elephants and Horse Archers to escort the old bastard to his temples along with the Priests

ive lost everything except west island building after all meditations, orange and purp was creating so much troops, sources wasnt enough to defend my south base, and ive found at north some soldiers and 2 monks with relics, ive lost all relics on south and buildings destroyed, i go to eat about 20 mins, and when come back, i saw orange and purp came to island, i turn this game with only monks, with converted cannon ships, there was suicide ships, i used cannon and run away, because suicide ships so fast, 1 hit and run, i put monks on island, captured suicide ships, maybe 200 monks i lost, at last i won the game, they destroyed all docks, so i converted their carrier ships, when you capture their ship, inside soldiers not changing color, i click and change them 1 by 1, because it took 4 hours. they have unlimited sources!!!!! btw purp resign when lost all buildings to my cannons (which i steal from orange) killed all army=) it was real challenge, my face become red and think 2 times close the game
Unlike release version they "only" get unlimited food which is enough to continually keep 3 stables making cavaliers plus a bit of change if they sell some food for gold, so most of their economy is now raidable.

This mission is series bullshit especially infinite rattan archers even if you take out the castles.
They changed yellow to Bengali and man they are so irritating. Nonstop elephants roaming on you and their OP ass charriot and infinite post-imp monks. They convert my whole army before i can even reach them. I just hate no build missions with limited reasources and 1v4 when all enemies are just sending steams of units at you.
It is so frustrant to have to play it more than once to win. You must know all the enemies and the map, and that has no sense. The game was always beautiful but this definitive edition is bullshit.
AoE II is my favorite game of all time, but the not original campaigns are totally shit, absolutely and objectively shit. A lot of campaigns are RPG with turns more than a Real Time Strategy and resources managing. Are so fucking hard and so fucking boring.
