Kmart Markers and Paint Pens! Cheap Art Supplies Review - Are They Any Good?

- Today I will review some pens I bought from Kmart recently; 36 sets of graphic alcohol markers, and acrylic paint pens. Compared with other brands they're pretty cheap, but are they any good and worth the money? Let's find out today!

Thank you! I'm always curious about Kmart supplies, because a lot of them lately have been better than expected - well, except maybe for the paint pens, lol.
I had to order the large paint markers online because as soon as they hit the stores here in south Australia they sold out, luckily I had a few people wanting them too so we ended up with free shipping.
I had no idea there's a completely different Kmart outside of the USA (which I believe is no longer in business... I know all the ones around me closed down years ago).
The patchwork design is so fun! And I'm a fan of all things cupcakes. Cute! 😊
Yes, it's a separate company, owned by mega Australian corporation Wesfarmers - I think they may have bought the name as well. It's such a great store; I'm always finding useful items there! Thank you - I had fun making these. 😊

Thank you! I love testing Kmart supplies out - they keep releasing tempting looking products. A pity the paint pens didn't last as long as I would have liked, but otherwise they were fun to use.
My entire childhood has memories from KMart and the infamous
Blue Light Special! It was a big deal to go to KMart back in the day! 99cent polish lol!!!
They probably still sell 99 cent polish, or maybe a dollar...haha!

They don't smell like alcohol pens - super weird formulation, haha! Dad's doing ok, but still waiting for a tube to be removed - the healing process is quite slow.

Oh wow!! This was a real treat to watch, I really enjoyed every single minute! That phone holder was awesome!! And the cupcake looks great! I watched the alcohol markers with awe, when ever I try to use my cheap set it always ends in disaster!! But I'm determined to keep trying with them, great review :D
Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised with how good these markers are; they go on the paper nice and smoothly and I had no issues at all. I love it when a cheap supply works well! When they don't.....wah!

Thank you! The paint pens may revive in a bit of alcohol - I haven't had a chance yet to see if this will work.
I love how your phone stand turned out. Will you share the footage of the others if you decorate them too? They seem like a good surface to test various brands of markers and paints on. My daughter bought a cheap set of 80 alcohol markers last year so I haven't looked at getting any of my own. Hers are Uniti brand from Warehouse Stationery. I think you probably get them over there too.
Thank you! I am hoping to try out the other markers I received and paint some more phone stands - in the process of gesso-ing them right now, haha! I don't think I've seen there Uniti brand here - I'll look out for it!

Thank you for the Kmart review! I was about to buy the paint pens when I saw them on Kmart's website. Will be rethinking that now!
Some of them are still working well, but random pens have dried out and refuse to reactivate, doh!

I bought some of their paint makers and never actually used them. I gave them away in the end, as I had so many markers.
The tiny canvases are so cute. I have some of the MM 8cm X 10cm. I just don't know what to paint on then. 😂
That seems to be one of the best white paint pens I've seen.
Poscas also dry out exactly like you said these do. I've had the nibs go hard if you haven't used them in a while.
All paint pens I know of, you can soak the nibs in water and it will fix them. For poscas, I removed the nibs, when it was Arttx, I actually just had the pen itself in water with just the nib soaked.
I guess with these some iso alcohol will do the trick.
That's the biggest problem with paint pens - the drying out! These Kmart ones did this much more quickly than other brands, and I think it's the alcohol in them. Oh well, I had fun making this video and some of the pens are still going so I'm trying to use them up in other projects, haha.

I also bought some markers from K-mart a while ago and the same thing happened, i used them once and when i went use them again they were dry and i found just a waste of money.
So like you said if you just want to use them once for a project then they are ok, but they do dry out for some reason.
I think it's the alcohol which is causing quicker drying - it's a shame because the pens are great otherwise!

Becky, those markers are lovely, anyone over there should rush to get them! I thought where the skirt is lifted was suppose to be leg? But oh well, not that I know.

We no longer have Kmarts. Haven’t in a long time. So strange to see they still exist somewhere.
Haha yes! Kmart Australia is actually a completely different company to the US one - they're owned by huge conglomerate Wesfarmers, and I think they bought the Kmart name years ago.
I have the paint pens and have used them for the last year and I haven’t had an issue with them drying out. I am never sure how to store them, lying flat or upright. Mine have been upright. Maybe that makes a difference? Great to see another Aussie. I like your voice so I subscribed.

The patchwork is such a fun idea! And it looks so colorful! Shame that those paint pens gave you so much trouble. In the end it's sometimes better to wait a bit longer and save up for the more expensive stuff, which lasts longer and is cheaper as an outcome. :) Great video, Becky! The paint pens were impulse buys because they were next to the markers, which I had intended on buying without anything else (ha!). I'm still glad I tried them out but yes it's often best to get something that costs more if it also has longevity. So many colours together in one set is hard to resist though, lol!

I discovered by accident that Target now sells a lot of the Kmart Anko branded stuff. I couldn't find my favourite glue tape at any Kmarts but Target randomly had it! Their whole stationary/art supplies section made me think I was in Kmart LOL
Haha yes I think Target recently started getting in Anko products and it's like you say; another Kmart! 😂
They have a huge set that is online only. $59 for over 100. Would love to see you do a review as well

Could you rinse the nibs out after use so the paint doesn’t dry in the nibs?
I may try soaking these in alcohol, as they say they're alcohol based. We shall see if that helps!
Interesting! Kmart is hit and miss but sometimes they have good stuff.
I've noticed that they're getting more hits than misses over the past few years - I have so much Kmart stuff in my house! 😂

We sure do - I can't believe how expensive everything is these days. I bought my cat a new bag of Royal Canin Maine Coon biscuits and a 2kg bag is now a whopping $61, when it used to be $35 only a couple of years ago! It's almost to the point of being completely unaffordable, but he loves them so much I can't not buy them. 😭
Does K-Mart still exist? I thought they went out of business years ago. I haven't seen one since I was a teenager........and that was a VERY long time ago 😆
Kmart Australia is a separate company to the American one. It's owned by this huge conglomerate called Wesfarmers, who bought the name years ago I think. Kmarts here would maybe be more like Walmart?
@@BeckyTregear Ahh, OK. Below Five has some alcohol ink markers which are really good for the price, but the color hardly ever matches the lid.
If your paint pens are alcohol based how about soaking the nibs in rubbing alcohol it might work
That's what I was thinking! I might sacrifice one to see if it works, haha.
last time i tried their alcohol markers the colours were just crazy off from what the tip showed. me expecting flesh tones, basically got highlighters.
The pink one in this set was a bit psychedelic, but otherwise they were pretty close to the colours I expected, so maybe they've improved?
Kmart have a skin tone pack with brush tip...
