  • Hey creative friends! If you've been seeing my recent art posts, you may have noticed that they look a little different than they used to. I decided to update my art style to be more cohesive and I'm really happy with the result! If you're also trying to "find your art style" and are looking for some tips, I hope this video will be useful to you!
I divided this up into 3 sections:
    1:08 - Why I changed my style
4:17 - Before and after examples
    17:36 - How I changed my style
I hope this all makes sense and you find it a little bit inspiring maybe? Either way I'm grateful you're here and let's hang out and talk art together!
    🌸🌸🌸

I added a comment a few minutes ago, but then I got distracted. I must have clicked on something else and my comment disappeared. So, I'll try again. Here goes take #2: I like the vulnerability that you show in your videos. Creating art to show others is scary. In your videos, you "put yourself out there". I thank you so very much for doing that. I watched your video on making cards. It was so informative. Please keep making videos, and please keep showing us your vulnerable side. I'm blown away, not only by your art. I'm blown away by your ability to make us all feel like we can create art. Thank you.

As an artist, Im starting over after a few decades of suppressing the desire and talent. Basically I believed the “starving artist” trope and put my creative energy into other things, and for those things, I am proud. But I want to draw and paint again. I really appreciate your content showing how to be a real-life artist, both creatively and professionally. As a mom, Im proud of you for following your passion. Keep up the great work! I'd love to know which artist documentaries influenced you, if you can share that.

Thank you so much for posting this video!
The way you talk about your art; describing, and critiquing it is so helpful and reminds me of my art teacher in high school. He thought me so much in those formative years on how to truly observe the world and translate what I see into a story on the page in a way that is clear and unique. That is exactly what I see you doing in your work.
I often fall on trying new styles nearly every time I pick up the pencil, but you have inspired me to get back into the mode of creating a "concentration" (as we called it in AP art) again and really narrow down my style into a cohesive thought.
Thank you again, Keep doing what you're doing!

Thank you for sharing your journey! I'm working on mixed media and collage. I don't have an art background so I listen to you to get some of the fundamentals of shapes, textures, composition, and shading.

I loved reading the Jan Brett’s books with my kids. There was always so much to look at, so many details to get immersed in. “The Hat” was one of our favs and the Wild Christmas Reindeer. Have a wonderful New Year. 😃

Loved this video so much! I have never seen a video of you before, nor do I comment on video's, but this video really inspired me to start drawing again 😊I get intimidated a lot by the fact that I don't have an art style so you explaining your process was sooo helpful, thank you!!

You do not know how much valuable you produce. Thank you, 🥰.
Yes you gave clarification for me. One day (soon) I will get there and, hope I can share my success with you. 🎁. Soo good to see someone is human and honest… wishing you all the best! I am starting my own business, actually open my company in November and girl it is not easy… sometimes I wonder ( should I just stay as engineer and be quiet?) (Will someone actually buy my arts?) I mean, everyone complimented before, but do this a full time business scares me.
I talk too much (in this case type)… I feel sometimes that I have two passion, technology and crafts. The tech pays salary, the craft is pleasure, everybody loves it and I feel so good doing it, but get easily distracted. Maybe is just me…
Well finishing here, you are an inspiration and I am happy for you 💙💙💙💙🙏✨

Thank you so much for watching & for your lovely comment! I totally understand your hesitation over making the leap into art. I think for a lot of people it always stays a balancing game with another career. But it's good to be persistent and just see where it takes you. I worked in academia for several years before becoming self employed and I still love the research/writing/teaching world, I just find ways to integrate that into my art business now... but you'll figure out the right path in time! I am happy you're here and hopefully we can support each other along the journey 🥰

All your art styles are wonderful! Just found you on Insta. Thank you for sharing. I am one of those who really doesn't have a style, and I am sure it's because I am interested a variety of subjects and medium. Plus, I've only been serious about my art for a handful of years. I feel I have so much to learn yet before I settle down to just one style or medium. I figure it will either happen on it's own, or the urge to find it will become too strong to deny.

Thanks so much! I think there's really no need to ever "settle" into a style unless you have a really clear objective why. And even then, at least for me, I still do all the other kinds of art - just as my personal work! I think the right thing to do becomes obvious over time. I appreciate you being here & watching! ☺️
