    Amazing new techniques. Here in Canada any gas pipe larger than 2" has to be welded and we traditionally ran black schedule 40 iron pipe. Today with galvanized no painting is required and that mega press is a he'll of a lot faster than any welder I have ever seen.

    TEAM BARRON IS FREAKIN KILLING IT IN THE PLUMBING GAME! Doing big jobs like that is a difficult task takes time and alot of cash money. Me personally never used Mega Press on any gas over 2 inch. We usually have to weld it. But damn that Mega Press is a game changer. Cuts the installation time in half and we know time is money.... keep pushing for the stars guys!💪💪

    Another thing. With runs that long don't you have to add offsets for expansion?.

    You have to weld anything 2.5 inches or bigger in Canada by code. Didnt know you could use those in the states.

      just ait until al those "long length runs" work loose and chew the seals up. thermal expansion and contraction is a hoe, I'm thinking some of them will be leaking within 5 years and others by 15 years at best. especially outdoors on rooftops, where things go from freezing/ice/snow loaded to sun baking in winter. methinks they forgot to use enough "swing joints" or zig-zags in the 999 feet straight runs(lol) I'm not a cannuck, but I do know some of your codes and regulations for the nasty weather play. 🙃

    The Milwaukee long press tool doesn’t hesitate like that. And you don’t need 2 guys to operate it.

    • @andrewwelch5668
      @andrewwelch5668 2 года назад +1

      @Mike V. That is true about the Milwaukee long throw press tool. Problem that I don't like about the Milwaukee large diameter press kits for copper and steel is that you can't swivel the actuator jaws around on the press ring dimples. In this case they wouldn't matter much because the space is wide open on the roof, but they are very awkward and cumbersome in tight spaces.

    I used mega press for the first time 2 weeks ago and all the fittings I pressed were crooked as shit, especially the street fittings then saw a video on correcting deflection with mega press but still seems kind of odd. I could move the fittings, something I didn't trust about it.

    • @ChuckBarron
      @ChuckBarron  2 года назад +1

      You can actually move fitting as per instructions after press.

    Megapress or was that MegapressG? Is the tool the same regardless? For 2”‘and under they use a different tool than that Rigid 340, was that also a Rigid or was that the Milwaukee unit? It was grey so I figure not the later.

      @@ChuckBarron when I first started and didn’t know any better, we put a plastic tarp in front of a set of French doors. We were cutting baseboard cabinets with a chop saw. Needless to say, that $1500 door taught me a lesson about metal shaving damage

    This is wheee I get mad at engineers. I recently did a restaurant that was about the same amount of btus. They wanted 3” as well. This included a 3” ansel. The run wasn’t super long so I’m guessing it was more btus than this. I think it would be much cheaper to run 2” or even 1 1/2” with a med or high pressure service. It would cost you 2-3 regulators and maybe an extra ansel. But those devices in smaller sizes wouldn’t be much different in price. Plus you’d save the huge amount of time and material cost running 80’ of 2” versus 80’ of 3”. Especially with the amount of turns in the run. It also slowed down the job because of how much harder the fittings were to get. But hey engineers went to college so they know better. What do they care about how much the job costs.
    I wonder what the difference in cost is of the long throw press tool and 2 1/2-4 head set versus a whole new threading set up for larger sizes. I’ve never threaded over 2” but based on the old rigid power vice and die set up we have you couldn’t do 3” even if you had the dies. I guess the difference is you can rent the mega press tools.

    cutting 3" pipe on a membrane roof with saw? I suggest a giant tarp or two to collect the shavings. yeah I know the wind is a killer for that to work out. but it would be cheaper than insurance claim of damaging the roof. DOH!

    only thing that scares me about magical rubber(synthetic) on gas lines, is knowing how the mercaptans(odorant) is corrosive and tends to build up and leech into things in dead flow zones and happily eats away at things.
    testing, accelerated testing, blah blah blah. I'm guessing many failures by 15 year age mark.
