That's NOT what happened at all! It was like his father was thinking: "He's grown a lot since he was born! Someday, he'll take my place as the next Great Prince of the Forest!" Despite it's humanization of deer, I've always found it interesting how this film stays true to the fact that male deer aren't involved in the raising of fawns. Ironically though, one time I looked out the window at the park across the street from my house and I saw a buck, a doe, and a fawn all trotting together through the gate and into the park haha. I've also seen a buck with a doe and fawn in the wild. I suppose a buck might still accompany a doe with a fawn even if it doesn't technically act as a father in any way more than in a biological sense. It would alert them of danger, but only in that it would do the same if it were with any other deer.
Well deer are usually social and might still hang out together, especially if they're related and the stag is still not old enough to become a father. Your stag might've been a previous fawn of the mother.
In the novel, Bambi's father is indeed, not involved in raising him and he is raised by an old doe after his mother's demise. However, he does guide Bambi in his young adulthood. Gotta give him that.
The Great Prince himself was taught that it's the doe's job to raise young, but there ARE exceptions! In the midquel, after Bambi nearly died when he fell off the cliff, his father was forced to see that "the old-fashioned way" is NOT always the best way, and became a REAL father to Bambi after that!
They are animals. Usually, deers in the wild don't form the typical mother-father-child family. The males have a territory and will defend all the females in it so he can father as many children as possible but they don't help raising them. In the books he actually has a more interesting relationship with Bambi and Bambi later is considered different since he interacts a lot with Faline and his two children.
As the prince and protector of the forest his father can't unite with his family since he's busy watching the forest and it's for the best. He's not selfish he needs to protect those and alert them when danger is lurking throughout the forest. So he's watching for his family and herd. Soon Bambi will have to take his place and watch over his kind when that time comes. At least in the 2 movie him and his father soon re unites but also when his mother died he thought that another female deer could watch over Bambi since his mother had died. His father does care for his family especially Bambi. I'm happy they spend time with each other and Bambi will soon take place as the prince and protector including as the watcher of the forest, herd, and family. :)
The Great Prince was standing on top of the hill watching his mate give birth to Bambi, along with all the forest animals visiting to congratulate her, so he wasn't "in the dark" about the fact that he became a father! In the midquel, he told Bambi: "The distance makes it easier to spot danger." The distance also makes it easier to watch lifecycle events!
It's remarkable how in the end, the elder prince was able to retire and die in peace. Neither Man nor any natural calamity was able to fell him. He even lived long enough to see his grandchildren. Ultimate badass.
Absolutely! Bambi's mother said he was very brave and very wise, and he proved it in more ways than one! I just hope he visited Faline and his grandchildren before he died!
Literally the best scene of the whole movie. The music is incredible. Bambi has totally the best background music of all disney movies. So hauntingly beautiful; pure art.
Bambi is my favorite Disney Movie of All Time. But having said that, Bambi is not my favorite character from this movie-The Great Price Of The Forest is!!!! ! To this day, whenever I watch this movie, I get chills whenever The Great Prince is in a scene. And ESPECIALLY in this one. At 1:17 into this video when everyone on the Meadow as stopped and The Great Prince walks on to it-like I said-chills. The music, without question, is a BIG PART as to why this scene (as well as so many other scenes in Bambi) were so breathtaking and amazing. The score of this films was also a character in the movie Bambi for sure. They sure don't make 'em like this anymore. This is a Masterpiece. An absolute Masterpiece.
I would have the Great Prince as my favorite cause he does not have a rather overdone child version of himself like Bambi(someone even told me that he thinks they choose to make Bambi 2 a midquel because Bambi is mostly remembered as a child due to Disney underusing his adult self compared to the original book).
The Great Prince was taught that raising young is the doe's job, but "the old-fashioned way," is NOT always the best way! In the midquel, he learned that lesson the hard way, when Bambi nearly died after falling off the cliff! I really DID love the character itself, but his "coldness and aloofness" had to go!
Epsonthe Giraffe Well, if it was a sign of interest, that would be weird, as Bambi's face went from happy and curious to scared and unsure by that sign.
Basil Maybe Bambi expected a friendly smile or grin but of course, all the Prince gave him was an interested, nearly strict stare. Under the strict eyes of someone unkown to you, everyone would drop a smile. Bambi sensed that the guy in front of him was someone really strong and wise. The film score in this movie is excellent. It establishes that the brass represent the bucks & the cymbals are an action (jumping) and then gets frantic at just the right moment when Bambi has to scurry out of the way. Easy transition to a royal march establishing a solo trumpet for the Great Prince - you don't need words to understand who is royalty and what is happening.
Bambi was curious seeing all the deer running, and he even tried to imitate their movements! In the midquel, he tried to imitate his father, but he ended up being accident-prone in the process!
I don't know why I feel like it was like yesterday that I saw the movie for first time as a child It always gets me when Bambi meets his dad, the great Prince, giving him that innocent smile (impossible for me not to be touched); while he, recognizing that he is his son, as just with the look says "hello" *And the deer run is magnificent, so gorgeous is the background music and congratulations to the animators.
His father's ears moved forward in curiosity, and that's another way of saying: "Hello." He was standing on top of the hill watching Bambi's birth, and all the forest animals visiting and congratulating his mother, so he wasn't "in the dark" about the fact that he became a father! It's also possible he stood on top of that hill watching Bambi grow up, and he was able to get a better look at him when he came on the meadow! He ALWAYS loved his son!
@@LisaKoffler I also feel that his father always loved him, and surely with that movement he showed what he must have felt when meeting his son face to face.
BG, I got the idea that he was thinking this: Great Prince: "My son has grown a lot since he was born, and he looks just like me! Someday, he'll take my place as the next Great Prince of the Forest!"
I remember watching this countless times as a kid, and realizing how much emotion was conveyed through the music alone. Just the art in itself was mesmerizing and it showed you how regal and wise Bambi’s father was, and how well respected he was in the forest. Such a classic movie.
The Great Prince watched his mate give birth to Bambi while standing on top of the hill, and it's possible he continued to stand there while watching him grow up! In this scene, his father was able to take a closer look at his son to see how much he's grown in a short time! Another RUclips video had a comment saying that Bambi has his father's eyes, and I answered: "I would hope so, since they're father and son!" Bambi DID grow up looking as handsome as his father!
Back when animation was subtle and under the production of Disney himself. Just the way Bambi's father addresses him, depending on how well you know the body language of deer, and this was in 1941!
The movie came out in 1942! I don't understand deer language myself, but I thought the way his father's ears perked up showed that he was curious about getting to know his son better!
My favorite part of the movie 🍿🎥 was when Bambi met his father for the very first time. To me it was very beautiful ❤️ and emotional. When Bambi's mother explained to Bambi of why all the deers in the forest including Bambi's mother respected him. "Out of all the deers of the forest not one has lived half so long. He's very brave and very wise that is why he is known as The Great Prince Of The Forest". A perfect example of only the strong survive! Is why this part of the movie is my favorite scene. How the way Bambi's father carried himself. The way he revealed things, very unique. I can tell just by viewing Bambi's father hes serious, he doesn't play. He knows what he's doing.
Absolutely! He was standing on top of the hill watching Bambi's birth, and all the forest animals visiting! In the midquel, Bambi showed that he was a lot like his father when he was his age, and he even taught his father to "play!"
That's NOT what happened at all! Bambi was STILL practically a baby, so he couldn't be expected to know how to react YET! He followed the example of the other deer simply by standing there, and he didn't know it was his father yet! When his father stopped and looked at him, he had to be thinking: "My son has grown a lot since he was born." Don't forget that he was standing on top of the hill watching Bambi's birth, so he didn't "miss out!"
Bambi grew up to be as beautiful as his father! It's also possible that after he took his father's place as the new Great Prince of the Forest that he spent more time with Faline and their twins, because of his own life experiences!
Fun Fact: The Great Prince was Actually based on a Red Deer While the other ones are Roe deers, another sub-species of a Deer . You can actually see the different identity of the Great Prince and its fellow herd at 1:05 where you can see a bunch of Doe deers while at 1:35 you can see The Great Prince. Also observe the antlers between the two , you can easily see the difference. It was actually been done on purpose to separate The Great Prince from the others and as it was actually to emphasize that the Great Prince was a Powerful and a Genius Deer. It would be quite stupid if the Great Prince was as of the same species as the others because you wouldn't recognize the Great Prince as they would have the Same Antlers as the other Deers.
But there is major point here You see roebucks and red stags have antlers going backwards here they have it fowards, and country they live and animals are from america, so this means they are white tailed deer, it can be easily see in great prince Even i tough they are roedeers and red deer, but now its wrong, they are whitetail
I thought it was just Great Prince's large body and antlers that made him stand out from the other deer, since he's the oldest surviving deer in the forest! He sired Bambi later in life, and I think it's because he was too busy with his job protecting the forest from Man and other dangerous threats! He didn't have time to meet Bambi's mother, so she had to go meet him herself!
1:52 at first glance might be the Prince looking at Bambi coldly but he is actually looking at his own son as though he is saying he is proud to be Bambi's father.
I felt it that way too, because Bambi wasn't even afraid of him when he looked at him and it's so cute how he innocently smiles at him. I felt like with that look the Great Prince recognized that Bambi is his son.
Bambi was curious about his father, and he must have been standing on top of the hill watching Bambi grow up, so he recognized him! His ears moved forward in curiosity towards getting to know his son better!
Did you noticed that when Bambi's father is on the screen, he never actually come here... He just appears, out of nowhere. I think it's just for style but still makes me feel a bit uneasy everytime it happens.
Bambi's father was standing on top of the hill watching Bambi's birth while protecting the forest from Man and other dangerous threats, so I'm sure he intended to "officially" meet him, and he did in this scene, even if only his ears moved forward in curiosity!
Even though the Great Prince didn't live with Bambi and his mother, he was watching his son's birth while standing on top of the hill, so Bambi wasn't a total stranger to him!
You know, I never noticed, the Great Prince comes out of the forest, then goes back when he sees Bambi's in the meadow. He wanted to make sure someone was on the lookout for trouble while his son was outside.
Bambi is my all time favorite Disney movie & I've seen it close to 100 times in my lifetime. At 1:19 when the music starts to play & The Great Prince starts to walk across the meadow, to this day I still get chills & tear up each & every time I watch this.
I was shocked at first, after seeing how big he was, with antlers to match! I thought he looked like royalty, and Bambi grew up to be as handsome as his father!
Gosh this sence is absolutely beautifully well done love how it really focuses on the music much less thiers no dialogue at all well at least up until bambi and his mom start talking about the deer and the great prince himself
@@LisaKoffler that is so very true especially in the case of this movie while yes there is dialog present within the movie there isint much instead the music conveys most of the story and even the facial expressions of the characters themselves when they aren't speaking
@Petolapsi Thanks, I hadn't realized when I clicked it that Finnish was for Finland. I thought it was a typo for finish. I just thought it was the first reel of dialogue before the final print.
Bambi was standing right there with all the other deer, and his father saw him while walking, so he stopped and looked at him with his ears moving forward in curiosity!
Yllättävän etäinen isä Bambilla, ei näyttänyt pahemmin olevan kiinnostunut pojastaan ennen tämän äidin kuolemaa. Itse asiassa Bambi sai kuulla tämän olevan isänsä vasta äitinsä kuoleman jälkeen. Ovatkohan tekijät halunneet luoda vanhanaikaisen perhemallin, missä äiti on lapsen huoltaja ja isällä muut velvollisuudet? Bambikaan ei näyttänyt elokuvan lopussa suuremmin kiinnostuneen vastasyntyneistä vasakaksosistaan, toisin kuin koko muu metsän väki.
Lily Luna mä sain selville tänään et on olemassa joku uudempi dubbaus.
The soundtrack in the beginning where the other bucks come running onto the meadow should be played in the military whenever the soldiers have to assemble
You know if they actually didn't choose to focus Bambi as a fawn for nearly two thirds(it had less detail than the book, but they killed time with pointless stuff like the rain and ice skating)as opposed to the book which was like one third worth in which Bambi was an adult for around two thirds in the original story, we would seem more of the Great Prince(Old Prince in the book) interacting with Bambi in this movie because his book counterpart interacted with more often with adult Bambi. But nope the 40s were a simple time back then and Disney creators even back at the days at throwing colorful stuff(in this case more colorful that you'd in a preschool in some cases) in which they would pass on this trait to even their successors who still enherit this Disney childish nature chose to actually stretch Bambi's childhood longer than they actually needed to. And I've seen the Bambi movies first, only to find out that they really did focus way to much on fawn Bambi.I know people are likely to argue with me. Let me tell you that no matter what this is true. So I can't be discussed very easily.
Disney is all about FAMILY, so they try to create family-friendly themes, even if they're NOT 100% in accordance to the original books! I was surprised that there wasn't a backstory on Bambi's father, but he said at the end of the midquel, that he was a lot like his son at his age!
Anonymous of Wonderland, people come up with all kinds of ideas for RUclips videos and even music! When you mentioned the animals visiting Bambi's mother, I thought about the end of the scene, where his father was standing on top of the hill watching everything!
I'm sure Bambi's mother said something, but we didn't see it! In the midquel, Bambi's father said that raising young is the doe's job, but that doesn't mean that ALL fawns NEVER meet and/or know their fathers!
I do not speak a word of Finnish, but I can still tell this dub is superior to the new 2005 dub. Why does Disney do this?! Replacing majestic wordings like "suureksi prinssiksi" (in this dub) for the utterly banal (and frankly, ugly) sounding "metsän ruhtinas" (modern dub). Maybe a Finnish speaker could elaborate on this topic. I'd be really interested to hear!
The old dub had budget and technical issues, such as Bambi and his friends retaining their child voices in their adult form, no choir, the original English audio sometimes being audible underneath... plus, some character names were possibly taken too many liberties with for modern Disney's tastes regarding brand consistency ("Thumper" was localised into "Kalle", which is a generic name unrelated to thumping). The new dub may be more polished superficially but lacks the soul of the older one, I agree.
Even though he wasn’t used as much like in the original book, I would have the Great Prince of the forest as my favorite character simply because he does not have a child version of his character that Disney overused like Bambi’s. Heck, someone told me that they choose to make Bambi 2 a midquel instead of a sequel with his children because Bambi is mostly remembered as a child due to Disney marketing him that way.
I saw BOTH movies, and at the end of the midquel, the Great Price admitted that he was a lot like his son! Don't forget that at the end of the first movie, he retired after becoming a grandfather, and Bambi took his place as the new Great Prince of the Forest!
His father's look: "Yeah..This one will do"
When bambi know his father?
I think the look was more “my son, it’s you…”
That's NOT what happened at all! It was like his father was thinking: "He's grown a lot since he was born! Someday, he'll take my place as the next Great Prince of the Forest!" The movie didn't show Bambi's mother telling him that he was his father, but he called him "My son." after she was shot and killed by hunters!
When I was young, Bambi’s dad always scared me. The direct stare without any movement on his face used to be so unsettling to me
Did you see how his ears moved forward? I was scared at first, because I thought he looked angry, but then I realized that he was curious about getting to know his son better!
It's a shame that Bambi discovered that the Grand Prince of the Forest was his father moments later after the tragedy when Bambi lost his mother
it's kinda lame that they gave it away in the movie. In the book it's never confirmed that he's his father but by the end it becomes pretty obvious.

Same lol here come the bois prancing to some really intense trumpets
i can see by your face
I always loved the apparition of the males and the looks The Great Prince give to Bambi
The Great Prince was curious about his son, and that's a good thing!
Finnish language sounds very emotional.
Thought it was some Asian language
@@nelsondendomo6687 No, it's finnish 👍
Yes, that's true!
I don't know why I feel like it was like yesterday that I saw the movie for first time as a child
It always gets me when Bambi meets his dad, the great Prince, giving him that innocent smile (impossible for me not to be touched); while he, recognizing that he is his son, as just with the look says "hello"
*And the deer run is magnificent, so gorgeous is the background music and congratulations to the animators.
BG, I got the idea that he was thinking this:
Great Prince: "My son has grown a lot since he was born, and he looks just like me!
It shows us he recognize him as his son too
The Great Prince watched his mate give birth to Bambi while standing on top of the hill, and it's possible he continued to stand there while watching him grow up! In this scene, his father was able to take a closer look at his son to see how much he's grown in a short time! Another RUclips video had a comment saying that Bambi has his father's eyes, and I answered: "I would hope so, since they're father and son!" Bambi DID grow up looking as handsome as his father!
Oh dear ,I still get very tearful 😢 I actually looked this scene up. Beautiful and heartbreaking. It make me miss my own father ❤️
BOTH my parents are deceased, so I understand what you mean!
0:58 Adult buck to Bambi: Get out the way kid , this is a Stag Party!
All stags know there place went the buck enters the field. 1:18
This part of the movie I always liked after he meets his beautiful father for the first time 👌 he looks amazing 🧡
Even the looks of The Great Prince is powerful

But there is major point here
You see roebucks and red stags have antlers going backwards here they have it fowards, and country they live and animals are from america, so this means they are white tailed deer, it can be easily see in great prince
Even i tough they are roedeers and red deer, but now its wrong, they are whitetail
I saw that, too! While he was standing on top of the hill during Bambi's birth, I'm sure his insides were smiling!
We can see him in the begining after the moment where the animals meet Bambi
Bambi's father was standing on top of the hill watching Bambi's birth while protecting the forest from Man and other dangerous threats, so I'm sure he intended to "officially" meet him, and he did in this scene, even if only his ears moved forward in curiosity!
I bet when he saw bambi he felt proud knowing he would be the next Prince
Yes or just proud to meet him because the male deer doesn't live with his family
Even though the Great Prince didn't live with Bambi and his mother, he was watching his son's birth while standing on top of the hill, so Bambi wasn't a total stranger to him!
A true king will always be a king
Lions are kings, while deer are princes!
Saddest disney ever, by light years ...
The music in this movie is highly underrated.
Gosh this sence is absolutely beautifully well done love how it really focuses on the music much less thiers no dialogue at all well at least up until bambi and his mom start talking about the deer and the great prince himself
Actions can speak louder than words!
Harmthuria post
This is the Finnish version!
0:48 Sounds like Lion King, Mufasa's Death
Bambi and The Lion King have quite a few similarities!
Bellissimo l'incontro e tutta la scenografie 👏👏
Greatest Disney movie of all time
I love it, too!
I'm sure Bambi's mother said SOMETHING to Bambi about the Great Prince being his father, but we never saw it!
Wednesday 21st August 2024. Bambi and his parents are so beautiful. Bless them all. Bless you all too and best of luck! From Virginia.?! 😃❤️🦌🐦🦨🐇🐁
Tämä on niin kuninkaalinen kohtaus tästä elokuvasta
At 1:43 the great prince must've only turned his head to look at Bambi just to one time see his son as he is
Bambi was standing right there with all the other deer, and his father saw him while walking, so he stopped and looked at him with his ears moving forward in curiosity!
hahahah. i was alittle confused when bambi wasnt speaking english. Haha i thought my phone was glitching. (It does It alot).
This scene is in Finnish!
I always thought bambis dad was copying bambi when he moved his ears forwards like a hello or a yes i am ur father 😭😊
As a kid the dad stare scared the hell out of me now as an adult i know what the stare means
At first, I thought he looked angry, but when his ears moved forward, I realized he was curious!
@@LisaKoffler Thats the look i give when someone tells me to shave my beard off lol
Matt Gowans, REALLY?
Yllättävän etäinen isä Bambilla, ei näyttänyt pahemmin olevan kiinnostunut pojastaan ennen tämän äidin kuolemaa. Itse asiassa Bambi sai kuulla tämän olevan isänsä vasta äitinsä kuoleman jälkeen. Ovatkohan tekijät halunneet luoda vanhanaikaisen perhemallin, missä äiti on lapsen huoltaja ja isällä muut velvollisuudet? Bambikaan ei näyttänyt elokuvan lopussa suuremmin kiinnostuneen vastasyntyneistä vasakaksosistaan, toisin kuin koko muu metsän väki.
omg..so cute.. love this movie.. =)
Me, too!
In the part where bambi and his father where having fun together I can see an improvement of his looks
That was in the midquel from 2006! The Great Prince started smiling and laughing, and that's enough to improve ANYONE'S looks!
Cool music
onks tästä joku uudempikin dubbi :O
miks ihmeessä, tää on tajuttoman ihana
Samaa mieltä!
On tää iha kiva mut... "hirvi" :D
Lily Luna mä sain selville tänään et on olemassa joku uudempi dubbaus.
The soundtrack in the beginning where the other bucks come running onto the meadow should be played in the military whenever the soldiers have to assemble
REALLY?
I'd love bambis father I'd love him more so on my wall
Sorry, he went off to die on his own! Get Ronno the Bully instead!
Those cymbals man...MAJESTIC!
The Great Prince of the Forest is also MAJESTIC!
I love Bambi and the music of this video ! Much émotion !
I love it, too!
this scene excites me
It took me by surprise!
Can’t find someone had a crush on Gumball lol 😂
I had a crush on bambi's father.....
REALLY? I thought he was handsome, too, but since he was considered "royalty," I didn't think he'd choose just ANY doe for a mate!
Love this movie
Me, too!
amazing quality is this HD
I love it, too!
Any website from Finland that I can buy a VCR or DVD of this dub? I have the new dub in Finnish, but I'd rather have this lovely dub
REALLY? English is NOT a "bad" language!
And now look what Disney has been reduced to in 2023. Sad
It's sad, but the Shop Disney website can STILL make us feel better!
🧛♂️Return of the Count Burns,🦇
REALLY?
Reverence. Royalty 👑
That's what Bambi's mother was talking about!
@SuperPahkina LMAO!!! What the hell, I wasn't expecting that! XD
I was also surprised after Bambi's father walked away after he stopped and looked at him with his ears moving forward in curiosity!
It was a book first but Disney changed it now it's very different from it's original story.
Disney's versions of stories are made to be as family-friendly as possible!
Could you put the first scene after "love is a song" when the animals are with the just born bambi in this dub?
Anything's possible! Bambi's father was watching while standing on top of the hill, so he didn't "miss out!"
@@LisaKoffler ?
Anonymous of Wonderland, people come up with all kinds of ideas for RUclips videos and even music! When you mentioned the animals visiting Bambi's mother, I thought about the end of the scene, where his father was standing on top of the hill watching everything!
Itse en muista katsoneeni elokuvaa kertaakaan loppuun asti. aina piti lopettaa sihen, kun bambin äiti kuoli
I wonder why Bambi's mother never said to his son that the Great Prince of the Forest was his father
Normally, the babies deers never met their father. They obly grow up with their mothers
I'm sure Bambi's mother said something, but we didn't see it! In the midquel, Bambi's father said that raising young is the doe's job, but that doesn't mean that ALL fawns NEVER meet and/or know their fathers!
Tää vanha dubbi on kyllä paras mitä ikinä on ollu!
You guys don't see it yet , but eventually these other animals will become one whole spirit of one, and twos.
That's in the afterlife!
His father is like my school director
REALLY? He must have been very strict!
BAMBI
Bambi?
Bambi
Bambi
Simba
...
Hell yes haha
I learned that Bambi and the Lion King have a lot of similarities!
1942 Crazy!
Crazy but true! The midquel came out in 2006!
superb!
Absolutely!
@@LisaKoffler i took an online drawing course with a lisa k but i can’t remember her full last name. By a long shot that wouldnt happen to be you? 😆
shannon longoria, no that wasn't me!
Felicidades 👏 🤠🤠🤠🤠
How can the great prince be bambi's dad? And why didn't bambi's mom tell bambi that the great prince was his father? :)
Normally, the males deers don't live with their female and children.
I think the way The Great Prince looks Bambi speaks for himself
I'm sure Bambi's mother said something, even if we didn't see it!
bambin isä on kunnon äijä
Bambi💗
I love it, too!
MOST TV shows and movies get translated into different languages!
Thank you for explaining that!
I'm here for the music
the music is beautiful!
His dad always kinda scared me lol. All hail the great prince of the forest
His majestic and regal appearance could scare anyone! Bambi himself could have gotten scared, but he was more surprised than anything else!
the stare looks like a real life deer stare too
I noticed that, and seeing his ears move forward showed curiosity towards his son!
The great Prince of forest gave me some Xerneas vibes
REALLY? I thought he was just majestic looking!
söpö toi bambi ku se lähtee loikkee noitten isompien kauriitten perässä :D
I didnt even know that was his father
It's confirmed when he meets Bambi after his mother's death but I pretty sure he didn't look at him like that if Bambi was just a lambda baby deer
@@a.g.demada5263 they didnt really confirm it until the second movie
After Bambi's mother was shot and killed by hunters, he told Bambi: "Your mother can't be with you anymore. Come, my son."
