This scene is so terrifying. My biggest fear is being stuck at the bottom of the ocean and not being able to swim all the way up to the surface. I didn't realize after 34 years that once Ariel got her legs, she lost her ability to breathe under water. She's a full on human.
@@Rtkat3 I did wonder about how this was going to be handled, because without Flounder and Sebastian, it was made pretty clear that Ariel was probably going to drown. There was only about 3 seconds worth of animation dedicated to it, but they still managed to show Ariel helpless and terrified. And that was after the audience watched her body being violently thrashed about in the bright yellow-orange bubble, and then watching her fins rip into two legs and feet, with an audible tearing sound. I think maybe Disney decided the original transformation was too scary and violent, lol.
The changes they made were idiotic, especially when they forgot to write the rest of the movie to accommodate them, so they just come off as random and nonsensical. If you're not gonna make an original retelling, like Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book did, then how's about you don't ruin what was already great to begin with with stupid changes that made the final product worse.
As someone who holds the character to an impossibly high standard, Halle Bailey is the perfect choice for Ariel. She embodies Ariel with every fiber of her being, not to mention she has one of the most gorgeous voices I've ever heard in my life.
In the original animated version, Ariel's bra stayed on after her transformation. I like how in thos version they had her bra come off, so she's completely naked.
The part that I will always remember about the original transformation is Ariel flailing and being jerked around in that bright yellow orange bubble, clearly in pain, and then the close up of her fin and tail, and then an audible tearing sound as her lower half was torn into two legs. 😨 That's pretty tough to translate into live action, but they did a good job none the less!
agreed. i love the animation from the original so much! i think they did the best they could with the live action version, and it still ended up looking beautiful
It's interesting in this Version Sebastian and Flounder could not be able to help carry Ariel out of the water like in the original. But luckily she made it up in time.
She's the worst live-action Ariel is existence. All the other women knew Ariel had light skin and loose flowing hair regardless of ethnicity, except for Halle who has neither. Nobody sees a live-action Ariel. She might as well have a different name, like her sisters do.
@@0deadx21thats pretty... racist. Unless race is integral to the character (Like lets say, Pocahontas) then race does not matter, their ability to act does.
My only complaint in this scene was that flounder and Sebastian didn’t help her swim to the surface like in the original. Overall, I found flounder and Sebastian, disappointing, but I liked Ariel, Ursula, Eric and scuttle, Triton was ehhhh okay I guess.
After Ariel had been turned into a human, swam fast to the surface to breathe and floated in the ocean for a while before being rescued by the fisherman, she probably would've peed in the ocean to relieve herself without even realizing it (1:02), and afterwards, Ursula probably would've collected some of Ariel's urine and used it for one of her spells.
You know it’s sad because I really wanted to love this remake. The hair flip is beautiful. there are great parts but they left so many things in this movie and honestly, it’s just ruined. However, Halle bailey did an amazing job. She was the highlight of the movie for me and Melissa McCartney. It’s just way too many great parts Left out from the original.
Well, a thought came to me with The Little Mermaid She would've been dead before ever seeing Eric Alright, so here's the problem with things after Ariel is changed, cause firstly you forget how deep Ursula's home is. Sunlight does not penetrate the eternal darkness below 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) From the 1989 version Ursula's home is surrounded by what looks like high-temperature hydrothermal vents. Hydrothermal vents in the deep ocean typically form along the mid-ocean ridges, such as the East Pacific Rise and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and you start seeing them at 2,000ft below the surface. Also keep in mind many free style divers, without O2 tanks; will dive up to 400 feet, record holding at 700ft. Now at 1,000fts, even with O2 tanks and proper training; you started to have trouble breathing. So if you've read this right, you can start to see the problem with Ariel's change but I'll wrap this up With Ursula's home being aprox. 2,000ft or lower below the surface, after her change the pressure alone should've killed her. If not that, the bends would soon after as she was rushed haphazardly to the surface. And after all that, if we are basing this at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge area , even with Sebastian and Flounder's help she would still have miles, if not days to go before reaching shore. Then the exhaustion would be another obstacle. So to be blunt, she would’ve died before seeing Eric at all.
They made Flounder and Sebastian useless in the live action. In the original they helped Ariel get to the surface and they fought back Flotsam and Jetsam
And they had Ariel break Vanessa's necklace instead of Scuttle,And her stiring the ship into Urusla instead of Eric, this remake was just obsessed with making Ariel look like a badass having to do absolutely everything herself.
@@charlieandthechocfactrules9186 yeah I understand they can’t make it exactly like the original. But I wish they would had kept a couple of things in like Flounder screaming when the shark 🦈 was chasing them
Maybe in this version maybe the producers wanted the audience to see Ariel the main protagonist to get into character you know see the hero she’s meant to be
I don't want to be rude about this movie, but this transformation was not magical as it was in the animated classic movie. It's so dark when she gets legs. I can't see clear and she can still swim quite good. I prefer the way it was in the animated classic movie, it was more magical and she gets help from her friends. Sadly I don't like this live action remake movie and I rather wanted the Broadway musical to be a live action movie since I have seen the musical and it was so many things I loved.
