We (Derby) weren't great on the day but were dogged and determined to win. I still can't believe we won that game....a bit of smash and grab tbh.. West Brom were the classier side, played all the silky football, some cracking players but thought you played as individuals and not as a team. It wasn't the first time I scratched my head that season thinking "how the hell did we win that??"....Good look to Albion, you went up the season after and coped alot better than us in the PL!!

As an Albion who went to that game 15 years ago it was apparent that Koumas could have played Philiips in twice on that run. But it was a great tackle by Mears. Robinson was at fault for the goal for trying to beat Fagan and then Sodje was also at fault for totally ball watching. He was an AWFUL defender. We got beat 3-1 at home against Stoke either that season or the season after and he was at fault for all 3 goals I vividly remember. That was a special team we had back then. We just missed a proper defensive midfielder and another good centre back as Curtis Davies was out injured at the time. I think we would have survived if we'd gone up with that team and added the likes of a Paul Scharner. When we did go up the next year Koumas, Gera, Davies, Phillips and Kamara were gone. What really let that team down was the defensive fragility like I said. We had half of a GREAT team. Koren was a good player but would bottle out of headers. Kiely was on his last legs, Sodje was truly AWFUL. Perry on last legs, Mcshane couldn't actually control the ball although he was brave. And after 2/3 really good seasons Robinson was on the decline. Possibly due to taking injections before games, at the end of the previous season.
A part of the reason we got relegated the season before(if any neutral or anyone is interested) with this supposed really good team was because Gera was out injured all season and Koumas was loaned out, by alcoholic Bryan Robson, all season because he 'didn't do his defensive work'. He was a poor manager.

Best day in my Derby history that game was. Brilliant atmosphere, brilliant (but tight) game, and West Brom, credit to them, they fought and fought and fought. And didn't let it keep them down. They pushed again next season and went up. But for that game, that day - Absolutely brilliant!

Cold, wet and miserable are my recollections. Enjoyed our promotion the following season though.
