- In this video we take you on a door job that’s something we do quite often, we normally fix the door but in this case the door had fallen off and they put it inside the car.

The 44-ton locomotive built by several builders was the result of a labor agreement between the Brotherhoods and the Railroads. The FRA was not involved. I really like the work you are doing on the GE 80-tonner. The Western Railway Museum has three 44-tonners. Several other traction museums have 25-tonners also built by GE with one Diesel and one motor.
For what you guys did, I seriously can't believe that the company couldn't have done exactly what you did - but I guess its more efficient to have someone come and do it, so their guys keep working, and hey - that keeps you guys employed!
Often, the railroads and leasing companies are far from considered "efficient" ..

Thanks for another visit, but this one per week is killin' me! I want more more more, I want merch., etc. etc. etc. [slap slap] Ah...I feel much better now! How about..... a complete line tour: beginning to end (or as far as is cleared). Wouldn't take too long to make and I know there are lots of us who would like to see the whole line! Any way, I shall retire and await more video goodness!

That TP56 makes me think of locomotive Conrail 0. Even after Conrail went away they didn't have the heart to renumber and repaint it. It's still zero today.

This is a comment on some thing you said last video since I got a little behind. Get a battery operated saws all and a bunch of wood blades they will cut through those 4 inch trees like butter and the blades will last a lot longer and also be much safer you can even run those blades through the dirt to get around the backside and they’ll still be good. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t even sink into the ballast and move the rocks out of the way when you’re cutting up close to the ties
They do make pruning blades, which don't clog as much as the wood blades. This results in a faster cut. I use one more and more, my chainsaw doesn't comes out unless it's 6+ inches or I have a lot to cut.
I see you follow the old adage, "Work smarter, not harder." Nice job.

Don't know if you interested in what looks like a not running but maybe all there 44 ton Davenport in storage at Madison City Port Authority yard in Indiana. Might be too much to take on.

It pays to have knowledge in rigging for what you do. That looked to me to be the best you could do with it. It might not survive being humped but no way to control that.

Thank you for sharing this part of what you do. Not something I ever thought of as a job or an issue, but it’s obviously something that would fail on site and need a tech to rectify on site. I’m sure others agree but feel free to share more of these clips from time to time.

Great video I have an accounting /history question First the numbers How much do you charge for a repair? Is it including travel time and expenses. Who pays and how long do they take to process your invoice? My history question is when did you start your rail business and what did you start with? You mentioned purchasing locomotives and leasing them and your retail and repair activities. These are business questions and I would completely agree if you don’t want to answer Thanks Jeff
I could tell what part of Ohio you were going to watching the scenery of the road sides. I was going to say depending on how much work is involved there was a center cab unit down on the Madison County RR at the Jefferson Proving Grounds in one of Jaw Tooth's last videos he did. Might be worth a look, but might be a bit more work than your wanting.

On to another job called....LUNCH. You are right about the 44 tonners, they were ment to get around having a fireman. The rule came around because of the transition to diesel and the fact firemen were no longer needed. This is also the reason for 'B' units, which did have controls and could be self moved/used w/o a fireman.
Found 2 hi rail dump trucks for sale, $6500 and $8500. Had some problems. you should be able to find them on western MA craigslist. I tried sending the link but my comment disappeared.
I love how many people on this comment section are being the "reading while driving / steering wheel knob police". Cut Brian some slack guys. He knows its wrong, as we all do....

Yep, had to stop the video 3 minutes in. I live in a place where distracted driving is commonplace and absolutely drives me crazy. Love the channel, love the knowledge but I just can't watch someone knowingly do something so stupid. I have seen lives ended and families torn apart due to crap like this.

Those dump trucks are listed as dump crane trucks. No mention of rail, but they have the rail wheels on them.

One of those Auto Cranes for the 1ton would sure be handy for a situation like that. Sometimes they go cheap at the equipment auctions especially if they need minor repairs. Great job getting the door secured with just the basics can’t wait till the next video, stay safe. 👍

That was really great. You guys do work. You know for a smaller good switcher. I would recommend a EMD SW 1100. I don’t know what your price range is though. A SW 1500 is a terrific switcher but probably out of the price range. Or even a jeep (what they call aGP7) a 4 axle 4 traction motors. Anyway food for thought.

Yup except it was just the firemen and the engineer, not the conducter... its because the brother hood the locomotive firemen was going to sew the railroads for it so they proposed anything over 45 tons needed a full crew thinking they wouldn't be able to produce a locomotive of that weight but starting with Whitcomb then ending with GE they produced a lot of them
Nobody thought a locomotive under 45 tons was impossible lol

FEC got around that and had to deal with intentional sabotage from union thugs..... look ma, no caboose....

What about an SW-8 switcher. They have 800 horse power and parts are still available for them. We have one that use to be an Amtrak locomotive.
You guys should also use a portable derail(s) or lock the switch(es) out in addition to blue flags.
I found this to be a very interesting video as you Don't ever see how these things get dealt with.
I think this is the ideal content because most of us never get to see this stuff and it's quite interesting. I would have just brought the plasma cutter and and cut it in half and called it a day....

Going by the reporting marks (ATW), that boxcar is owned by Atlantic & Western Railway, which is a Genesse&Wyoming road based in Sanford, NC.
G&W owns a lot of railroad companies...Didn't know they owned ATW, thou...

why couldn't graham ask the questions while you was driving then you could have kept your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel
reminds me of when I had to study flash cards before going to class back in my college days (1 hr drive each way)... I wouldn't even dream of trying that today, especially with my cheap reading glasses.

i give it one, maybe two, trips over a (UP) hump. It will either be sticking out the side again or resting against the end bulkhead. Putting a "Do Not Hump" sign on it would do little to preventing it. But, what can you do?

Did you work at Buckeye Metal Works Lockbourne ,Ohio , you mentioned something about it . If so what were you assembler , Wheelabrator operator ,grinder , welder, ovens. I was a Iron worker, sad what we have done to that Industry in USA, GOD Bless AMERICA.

Any idea on the Age of this Box Car. Box Cars are removed from Service by Law after 40-45 years.
I believe 50 years is the limit for interchange service.
I saw that boxcar, & noticed it's missing door, I did not have enough time to see the door because trains in my area usually do 30 on the jets (intermodal), and 25 for everything else.
