Fifth Gen fighters is about creating an integrated battle field, linking all the assets together. The more automated and easy they can make the aircraft, the more the pilot can focus on his job which is to destroy enemy assets. In flight school the easy part is learning to fly the plane, most people could do that, the hard part is using the plane as a weapon and that's why its so hard to make the cut as a fighter pilot and why they put so much pressure on during training, even cutting good pilots, that don-t respond to the pressure. They don't want pilots to fly the plane they want a person who can operate an airborne weapon system under extreme condition including risk of death, while remaining calm and cognitive. Also its good to see, some of the more risky parts of a STOL aircraft is now automated, the Harrier was notoriously difficult to fly, with not a great safety record although its proved its worth in the Falkland's war.

Whats most interesting about this aircraft is that its impossible to fly without the onboard computer, it makes thousands of adjustments to the control surfaces every second just to make sure the plane stays in the air
I talked to 2 Harrier jet pilots at an air show, back in 1995. They were very smart, sharp, and highly educated. That hasn't changed much now. The planes are more expensive, though. The Marines don't trust a piece of machinery that costly to just any kid who wants to be a fighter pilot. I wanted to be one of those guys, when I was growing up. I realized that I wasn't made of "the right stuff" early on. You really do need to be good, or you could end up plowed deep somewhere, at 1200 mph.
Marine Corps aviators also go through infantry training before even arriving at Flight School in Pensacola. Although unlikely, they must be capable of taking charge of an infantry platoon if necessary. Same for supply officers.
Good point. The infantry school reinforces the connection between the air and ground units. Previous helmets had a camo cover as a nod to this- maybe can't do it with new high tech helmits?
@@rumrnr78 👍 yes, that would be so like Marines! To have aviators wear camo helmets. I was ground, so i didn't know that. But the instructors always stressed that everything, every USMC asset and every Marine existed to support the infantry.
One of the most challenging aspect of becoming a fighter pilot to this day, I believe, remains to try to not weather out as quickly as possible by constantly withstanding all those g forces. I mean weighing 5 to 6 times your body weight...I’ve heard pilots say it’s like you’ve just climbed mountains in an hour and now all you want to do is sleep like a baby. No, it’s not easy at all.
That is valuable training and the aircraft is so full of modern technology which makes their job easier as the pilot controls the aircraft. If I was a ground troop and was in need of help and seeing this airplane coming to your assistance would be so helpful until other help can arrive.
Wow these technology's are really surprising me. Im really interested in jets and engineering, the technology costs alot because it takes a long time and takes time to get the stuff to build these things. I think the f-35b is my favorite now.
Wish my father had access to this kind of technology, he was a marine on the front lines of the Vietnam war. Got wounded twice, and was sent home, only to die in a motorcycle accident on the way to work. I know, it's ironic. And I'm now older than he was when he died. Even after he was sent home, everything within him wanted to go back. He loved being a marine. Also, I didn't know that it could land vertically. Very interesting.
If you are wearing such a helmet and flying such a thing you are no more an ordinary person, you are basically a guardian of a country and all its people! You are basically a person with one of the biggest responsibilities on your shoulders!
Pretty sure many countries' fighter pilots go through similar training too. Simulation, briefing, flight inspection, mission planning, actual flying, debrief etc.
I have a hard time multi tasking while doing one thing. I couldn’t imagine trying to do all y’all hero’s do inside the cockpit. Thanks for your Service and stay safe. My nephew is in his second year of Air Force Academy he wants to be a pilot, he’s a glider instructor now.
Imagine all the training for these guys: College (usually USNA), Marine Boot Camp, regular Flight School, F35 Flight School. Any one of them can cut you from the team.
While I still think the B model should have just had its own competition (the complexity of fitting V/STOL capability being one of the things that slowed the entire program,) this *is* quite a capable aircraft. It's set to sit in the middle of a lot of other tech being worked on - "Loyal wingman" drones, for instance. It's a flying, missile launching, bomb dropping data center.
It probably would've gotten cancelled. It would go along that lines of "The Marine core doesn't need a stealth jet in this threat environment". The raptor got cancelled. I think that only thing saved it was the fact that it was a package deal.
Single seat Navy jets are kind of an aberration. F4, F14, A6, even the Super Hornets all had a second seat. I guess they figure with all the computer assistance the RIO isn't really needed anymore.
Holy shit! The amount of research, work, and funding that goes into everything (I mean a little sensor that inflates the life vest automatically upon reaching the water...cmon!!!) is insane. This is where I realize that the US has one hell of an army, because everything is extremely well thought and meticulously planned. And to top that off, the amount of experience they have is insanely high...I mean, a third generation fighter pilot? There are whole countries younger than that...
On April 7th 2022, I was in South Carolina at parris island for my brother marine graduation. I was at the hotel during night. I seen so many fighter nets flying over. It had to be a f-35. I got some videos of it.

Compare that with the Harrier where you are constant using levers, and switches to get the plane vertical takeoff. The F-35B and it's electronics have made it so much easier for pilots.
My gratitude and admiration for all you do!!!!
Top guys these pilots enjoyed finding out about the hours of study and training, they are special men and women who fly these aircraft
So glad it's not just what you know but still who you know to make leaps and bounds.
OORAAAAH MARINES!!!! The Sister-Brotherhood of the Marine Corps is introduced to all Marines at the start of their tour. Learning about a bond Marines carry throughout their service, and Marine veterans carry after they discharge from service. These few Marine pilots in this video is a part of many Marine pilots at all Marine bases throughout the world. Their missions during wartime are extremely dangerous, and they understand that. Their bravery to take on any mission, supercedes any level of danger. To you brave pilots, warriors above. I raise my glass to your steadfast courage. Be alert, be safe on your next missions to terminate all targets on our next conflict. Salute to you devildogs in the sky... OORAAH!!

Whats most interesting about this aircraft is that its impossible to fly without the onboard computer, it makes thousands of adjustments to the control surfaces every second just to make sure the plane stays in the air
What rolls Royce did with this F35 really elevated an already fantastic engineering design, proud to have worked on these!
being able to fly those things must be one of the best feelings in the world
I talked to 2 Harrier jet pilots at an air show, back in 1995.
The real “Top Guns” 👏🏼
My dad flies the f35 super cool!
Take a good hard look Ruzzia, THIS is what a super power is capable of. Keep dreaming you’ll ever get a 3rd of this strength.
That's incredible how integrated the tech is with the helmet and plane. Pacific Rim isn't far off!!
Let build our jaeger
The guy at 3:17 is the chillest man in the world
That is valuable training and the aircraft is so full of modern technology which makes their job easier as the pilot controls the aircraft. If I was a ground troop and was in need of help and seeing this airplane coming to your assistance would be so helpful until other help can arrive.
Fighter pilots are part a team that makes it safe to be a US citizen!!! Thank you for your Service !!
that vertical landing thing is SO COOL!
Very interesting.
marines never learn how to let go
@@tuffcruz956 watch your words. That is all I will say.
Kinda fascinating seeing a whole different side of the Marine Corps that’s we’re not exposed to
If you are wearing such a helmet and flying such a thing you are no more an ordinary person, you are basically a guardian of a country and all its people! You are basically a person with one of the biggest responsibilities on your shoulders!
That STOVL feature is totally awesome to see .
$400,000 for one helmet! That's a lot of money.
Whoa. You think???
The amount they spend on training is amazing. I am not sure if other country is doing such in this level.
There isnt
Pretty sure many countries' fighter pilots go through similar training too. Simulation, briefing, flight inspection, mission planning, actual flying, debrief etc.
That’s awesome an entire family line of pilots.. 👍
Very sorry to hear the Prowler is being retired!
Love the Spyderco Pacific Salt! 6:48
It’s an honor to fly this Jet in Battlefield. Hoorah
One day I hope to fly one of those F-35B's.
Thank you to all veterans I hope your family is going well and I hope you are as well stay strong 💪 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
And now suddenly the jaegers in pacific rim needing more than one pilot seems kinda plausible

But not the part where their brains need to sync.
Forget the helmet, I love the glass shell - amazing visibility
5:05 incredibly hard training of pilots learning to push two buttons. The hard work was done by the engineers, praise them.
"just pressed the button and it take of automatically"
I think i will be able to fly this jet if they told me which button to press😂😂😂
me when i was a kid: “draws myself in cockpit of f-35 and dream of becoming fighter jet pilot”
me after watching this video: *ok i’ll take it back*
The F-35B is a short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft, it can hover in the air thanks to its special rotating engine.
And what?
The engine doesn't rotate.
On April 7th 2022, I was in South Carolina at parris island for my brother marine graduation. I was at the hotel during night. I seen so many fighter nets flying over. It had to be a f-35. I got some videos of it.
Every soldier in the Corp is an EXPERT RIFLEMAN! Even the pilots. God Bless the USMC!
There are no "soldiers" (sic) in the Marine Corps...only Marines. Even the prior service-Army Devil Dogs I served with would correct you on this.
Every military intelligence division in the world: write that down! WRITE THAT DOWN!
Write what down? How it takes off?
Some countries have already stolen the production plans and already have replicated this fighter
I always want to fly one of these jets
