    Damn Shame - the UWF was overall the best promotion I ever saw . Wildly athletic, gritty matches . Excellent story lines and pacing . First rate production values and first rate talent …. How I would have liked to see what would have happened if they could have prospered …!

    I remember, UWF still having a gr8 Saturday morning syndication spot, one of the few alternatives to WWF along with WCW/NWA. I wished they'd carry on.

  • @danpoutsma1351

    Crockett bought the UWF predominantly for the TV. They had, I believe, in excess of 100 stations as part of their syndicated network. He wanted to combine that with his own syndicated package to create The Wrestling Network so he could compete with Vince nationally for advertising dollars.

  • @danpoutsma1351

    At the end, she's trying to say that they went back when TBS bought Crockett.

    Instead of viewing it as another viable revenue stream, promoters' egos got in the way..Not only did it happen with the UWF, butting heads is what caused the creation of the WWWF and the AWA, that mindset also caused WCCW to leave the NWA after Kerry dropped the belt back to Flair in Japan, it happened with the NWA/AWA Pro Wrestling USA venture and it happened with WWE's Invasion angle. They all left the money on the table. To prove that a dominant invader angle would work, we need to look no further than the NWO. Unfortunately, they eventually did it in reverse. They made them so dominant that it became boring like the other failed invasions/mergers that came before them.
    In my opinion, it's happening in MMA too. PFL recently purchased Bellator and they put their top fighters against each other in a PPV. Bellator came out on top but Bellator barely has events now even though their brand always had more viewers and worked larger venues.

    The UWF had great talent. Savannah Jack, Chris Adams, The One Man Gang, The Fantastics, The Freebirds .

  • @user-pc8uq6df2k
    @user-pc8uq6df2k 18 дней назад +1

    1) It wasn't "Wrestling News Network", It was "The Wrestling Network."
    2) Frankly once Mid-South became UWF, it slowly went downhill. Talent bolted for the WWF before and after the name change (Reed, Jake, Slater). Other talent was going to Japan and off TV for about a month at a time (DiBiase, Doc, Gordy, Duggan, Steiner). Then, Duggan left for the WWF. Then the Gang. And the slugs that were "new talent"; Tarrus Bulba, Korchinko, Eli the Eliminator, Savannah Jack, The Viking, Angel of Death. The other new talent was mainly picked up from World Class; Freebirds, the Link, Gang, Tatum, Victory, Adams, Iceman. I was never impressed with John Tatum. Without Missy, he was a jobber. What made UWF watchable at all was Bill Watts as the mastermind. Once he left, it was a boring @$$ show. And it was getting boring while he was still there.

      Yeah, Wrestling News Network (WNN) was the Gordon Solie hosted segment on the NWA and/or WCW. It was a play on CNN (which, I think they actually had to get CNN's approval to do it since even though they were both under Turner, all the businesses operated separately) and in the beginning they would even mention other promotions like the WWF.

    Good to see positive comments about this shoot (following some what appeared to be a bunch troll incels). Missy is super smart, had to put up with an enormous amount of stupid bravado, knows the business more than a lot of people. I respect her so much I forgive her for pissing off my TV dad who never lost his temper, Lance (“YeeeeelloOOOO, everybody!”) Russell.

    • @jeffnettleton3858
      @jeffnettleton3858 25 дней назад +2

      Yeah, it pretty much did. All of the UWF titleholder did the job to their WCW equivalent. Sting too time to develop, as did Rick Steiner. Terry Taylor was buried, though he had his own mouth to blame for that. Steve Williams jobbed to Flair and only got a minor push, with the Varsity Club and mostly stayed in Japan. The Kansas City office crashed and burned quickly and he sold it back to Geigel, who ran it for a year or two as the WWA (not to be confused with the Indianapolis WWA). They buried Florida pretty quickly. Crockett did some of the damage to the other territories, not just Vince.

      @jeffnettleton3858 Williams didn't even get a match with Flair did he? I don't even remember how the UWF title got phased out after Williams defended against Windham at Starrcade 87

      @@soulofanerd9364 I believe they had a few house show matches but Flair complained about Doc being too stiff. So the program was rather short lived, certainly nothing that ever made it onto television.

    • @danpoutsma1351
      @danpoutsma1351 9 дней назад +1

      @soulofanerd9364 The UWF name and title just quietly went away. Production of the main UWF show ceased near the end of 1987, and the secondary Power Pro Wrestling show lasted into early 1988 as a duplicate version of World Wide Wrestling but with different commentary before it was also nixed
      I think Doc had a few matches with Flair in 88.

    If you’re familiar with Missy’s body of work in pro wrestling, why ask her anything about the business of the business? She was one of the most finite, limited talents during her brief peak. I’m using peak loosely. I’ve listened to her tell the host about being in “booking meetings” that were actually production meetings and vastly different from the other. She has discussed her lack of training in the physical aspect beyond womping an opponent with a brick laden Gucci bag. She was physically attractive then but it turned out she wasn’t playing the role of a loose ditz.

    It is amazing humans will mistreat other living creatures on this planet for money.
    If all living creatures would work together then they would accomplish more with making money.
