A joy after all these years, imagine all the hard work involved, getting into every costume and make up to do all the characters in this one airport sketch, so clever how they use a body double in scenes when Clarence and the vicar are both at the newspaper and magazine kiosk together. His toothy vicar buying 'Playboy' 😂, and Hetty returning home with her unusual bingo winnings!😂 Comedy isn't comedy anymore, Dick Emery is real comedy.
Yes, Honky Tonk, the other name for Clarence. I don't think you will need told, Margaret, that some people who don't have as good a sense of humour as you would veto him nowadays.
And he played it to perfection too. A shame of course he is not here now but I saw his son nick emery online and he must enjoy seeing his father in his old series I am sure too.
Same with Mr Humphries in 'Are You Being Served'. John Inman said he used to get gay men coming up to him in the street to shake his hand and thank him. Clarence is no more 'offensive' to homosexuals than Hettie is to heterosexual women. He's just a 'type' or character, not representative of an entire group!
I love Clarence he's sooo funny ...as someone who is gay I think we have too laugh at ourselves ....the removal van hysterical can you take this old pouffe upstairs .....oooh well
Where was Mandy. Can just imagine: So you love your boyfriend taking you for a flight: so you enjoy the pushback into the seat and thrust; or just being taken up? Oooo your are awful…
Hahaha yes! Unfortunately no Mandy in this clip. A missed opportunity… M:”My boyfriend’s a pilot so sometimes I will be on his flight.” “When you’re in the air, does he ever take you in the cockpit??” M:”Pardon???” “Or you do have to wait until he has you on the ground?” M:”Oooh you are awful……”

I just find Honky Tonk hysterical. I can’t stop laughing 😀

Honky Tonks is absolutely hilarious. My favourites are the driving instructor sketch and the one where he goes to the army recruitment centre.
You are all so right there too in those words may I say.
I won him at bingo. Priceless. The genius of Dick Emery.
As a gay man, I’ve always found Dick Emery hilarious especially his character Clarence!
A very funny sketch with a good ending. The scene with Hetty is brilliant. This man had an incredible talent.
He must have done how did he do it I wonder too. He must have filmed all the scenes separately I guess as well as being dressed for the part too.

2:58 Jean Louis Mansi, right here. Latterly of 'Von Smallhausen' fame in 'Allo 'Allo. Superb BBC ans British comedy! ❤❤❤❤
Traveling in the 70s was very nice and Civilized👍🏴
Indeed and if only too.
Not only do you give us give us a clue..now these gems! Happy new year!
Dick Emery,a genius.
Is that Von Smallhausen from Allo Allo
ah that's who he is! i was trying to place him.
Does anyone know where I can get an outfit like Clarence's?
I like the fact gay men laugh at Clarence
Only the woke brigade say it's homophobic

@Londonfogey
Exactly! No one took offence. It was pure comedy. What they try to serve up now is rubbish. Not even remotely funny.
@LorettaGrace you are so right there too albeit alas.-kf7kh

I was too young to remember this but I feel like I remember it!
When no one got offended
The vicar was a very funny character.

I saw it somewhere on another you tube upload as far as I know too.
Anyone know what year this episode aired? Cheers
Around 1973. I used to watch the show quite regularly.
He died 40 years ago but his comedy lives on, not very PC these days though.
That’s why it’s funny.
@@hatednyc Yes indeed.

Von small hausen

This is the last of my Dick Emery clips. There will be more GIve us a Clue coming soon :)
@@brozotes cool they do make my day!!
Very underrated comedian you can see the influence of him in comedians today
@@andrewwood2955 Not underrated at the time. Like you say, very influential. Sadly neglected now as his humour is out of step with the times.
Brilliant as usual-what a loss Dick was to comedy
Yes very much so there too.
