Morning Daniel. Sunday is my day of rest. How do I rest ? I spend a few great hours with my coins. I also praise the One who gave us this beautiful day. We sometimes take for granted for what we have. I just say Thank You for giving me breath and life to pursue my life. As you say in your closing remarks. "Have a Great Day". And as I say God Bless.
Amen
I found a Barber quarter once in a roll from Apmex, sold for $50 on ebay...every little bit helps. Keep doing what you do👍
Sees video about quarters he may have, pulls out quarters, notices that one is a B type, however, my quarters are pretty darn circulated.
Always fun to learn new and have refresher courses from you.
I have two 1964 Philadelphia Type Two. Gem BU in flips. Also, have two near full rolls of silver quarters I will have fun hunting through thanks to your video and info. Thanks for sharing Daniel.
TY so much Daniel for this video, I have at least 10 63 &64's ready to go off for grading and just reviewed ONE and it IS, I believe a "B" type, gap between E and S IS big enough for than ant, altho I'd likely spray the ant before it crawled on my quarter, LOL. SO now I need to check ALL my quarters and modify my submission form if I think any are worthy of the variants. THANKS again.
Awesome! I've never been able to really figure out the difference between the three. This spells it out so clearly. Definitely adding this video to my favorites. Thanks for another great one!
You’re welcome
Have always looked for B reverses but was unaware of the C. Ty - added it to my list
Portsmouth coins is definitely my go to
Good Morning Daniel!!🍵 Thankyou for some great new information!! Have a blessed day!!🙏🙏🙏
Thank you
Thanks for this informative video - never knew about these varieties. It is easy to miss without careful inspection. Now I have to take a closer look at the two 64D Quarters I have.
WOW! LUCKY DAY, ALWAYS A GOOD DAY WHEN YOU COME ACROSS A HARD TO FIND COIN. I'M CANADIAN AND ON FRIDAY MY BANKED HAD CALLED AND LET ME KNOW 16 ROLLS OF PENNIES CAME IN. I COULDN'T MAKE IT THERE FRIDAY, SO MONDAY IS GOING TO BE LIKE XMAS FOR ME. I'LL BE AT THE DOORS WAITING AT OPENING TIME. LAST WEEK I ENDED UP FINDING A 1953 SF (SHOULDER FOLD). ITS A RARE HARD TO FIND CANADIAN PENNY. I'M SO EXCITED TO GET TO THAT BANK MONDAY MORNING, WILL BE HARD SLEEPING TONIGHT. LOL
THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO, ITS GOOD TO CATCH THEM WHEN I CAN..
Wow, must be nice to have a bank that treats you so well. My bank refuses to sell boxes of coins as soon as they find out you are a coin searcher. Am also treated with suspicion and when I withdraw a sizeable sum of money, they ask me what I'm going to do with it. Refuse to play their control games.
Hope find something KICKbutt George!
Nice find Daniel ! So many things tot look for out there. I found out about these but just a few months ago. Thanks for adding to my knowledge on these !! If you are submitting (and I might have missed it)..I wish you well !!
Watching here in the Philippines..
Tnx for the info.
awesome upload CoinHELPu. I broke that thumbs up on your video. Always keep up the amazing work.
Thanks for the insight Daniel. Have a great day.
Thank you for this information. Have a bunch of these that I need to look through to see what type they actually are.
Always Good News and Perfect Video My Daniel From Your Friend at YTube
I knew but I didn't know it went back that far
I think I have a type B quarter of all years 1956 to 1964. I haven't found a 1964d type C or rev of 65 yet.
Thank you, Daniel. I learned something today.
Congratulations on the great find!
I was unaware of these different types. Thanks for this informative video
I have a 2023 DD Jovida Idar quarter. Should I get it graded? What would you do Daniel? Are they valuable at all? Has anyone found one yet?
Enjoyed this information thanks for sharing your knowledge. 👍🙂
Awesome information thanks
Nice find Daniel, hope you get the grade your wanting 👍🤞
Earle is a first class guy, know his stuff!
6 weeks ago I bought a hoard of original rolls of unc quarters from a guy who had them in his safe since the mid 70s
He stored them in plastic coin tubes that were clearly not modern era they were not the type of tubes that have been in circulation for the last 15 years since I’ve been collecting junk silver and rolls. The scotch tape was old yellow brittle and cracked and the dates that he wrote on the top on a little label were faded and in an older style cursive penmanship from yesteryear
Each roll had the same patina and the edges were all consistent so you didn’t get varying shades of black gray and silver along the edge it was uniform and consistent and all the indicators of these being original rolls checked out. He just didn’t store them in the OBW paper they were originally wrapped in
(which is good and bad. It’s bad because obviously the value is higher if they were still in their original paper rolls. But, it’s good because I never would’ve found this roll as I never would’ve opened any of them)
Every roll except one was from 1956-1964 (the one was 1954-S).
I collect OBW rolls (the real ones not the fake ones on eBay)
There were multiple duplicate dates several obviously 1964 and 64D I think there were five 1962 rolls, although there was only one 1960 and 1 1960 D there were several from 1958 and 1959
I also buy a lot of junk silver and 90% and cherry pick through it
I once found a 1934 heavy motto doubled die FS-101 (which eventually graded with ANACS as VF20 details, cleaned) amongst other things of that sort
But, Ive never before even thought to look for Type B (or C) reverse quarters until one of the rolls stood out…. I thought for a minute they might’ve been proofs. I actually had to read up on the type B reverse in the Cherrypicker guide
As it turned out one of the 1959 rolls, was a complete roll of tape B reverses
Currently I have it up on eBay USA Coinbook and locally on Craigslist etc
From what I read the type B reverse can only be on the Philadelphia issue because it was intended for use only on a proof reverse. Obviously I checked every other roll, including the D mints, but none had the type B reverse
There may have been a couple scattered throughout because I didn’t check all 40 coins of all 46 rolls.. I did check a sample of each roll probably 5 to 8 coins and didn’t find a single one except for this complete roll of 1959 quarters

That’s why there’s a type C for the 64 D
@@CoinHELPu exactly .. sorry in my verbosity I failed to comment on that
Type C originated in -1964. Type D -F (or G?) all came later
Very nice btw

Here’s my opinion, as well as data analysis
I cannot attach images of the NGC price guide for the 1959 business strike quarter (data is for all 1959 issues, standard type A as well as type B, i.e. FS-901)
For example, clicking on the first auction archive from the MS65 grade (the sale for $84 on 3/27/2019, yields a PCGS MS65 example of the type B reverse (FS-901).
coins.ha.com/itm/washington-quarters/1959-25c-type-b-reverse-fs-901-ms65-pcgs-pcgs-population-291-39-ms65-mintage-24-300-000/a/131914-21428.s?type=NGC131914
PCGS price guide lists 1959 type B reverse graded MS67 as $1650 and MS66 as $400 (66+ is $1100).
At PCGS, only 33 have been graded MS67, and 11 have graded 67+. None finer (zero graded 68 or better).
I do think there’s a legitimate chance a few of the coins within this roll of 40 coins, could possibly make 66 or better, considering how difficult it is to get such grades from PCGS & NGC I’d never make such a claim.
But, I will say I’ve been collecting and studying coins raw, and graded by the major TPG for 20+ years
When looking closely under a 20 Power loupe, and with the naked eye, several of these have virtually flawless surfaces and booming original mint luster.
The NGC price guide (link above) only show 1959 quarter as a whole. Type A and Type B reverses are grouped into the same price guide.
However when looking at the most recent auction results, one will note significant price disparity in sales.
The coins with the significant higher sell price, are all the type B reverse.
See attached graphs.
These sell so infrequently, the dates of some of the auctions go back as far as 2014.
Looking at the first table, the this auction results from 1959 quarters that graded MS
65.
The four most recent actions were 2019 back through 2014
These coins sold for $35, $60 and $84, and $85. 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
The two coins to sell in the 80+ dollar range, had the Type B reverse (FS-901).
Looking at the 2nd diagram, these are the MS66 and MS66+ auction results.
A little more recent, the last 4 sales of MS66 are 2017-2020, and the 4 most recent 66+ sales are 2015-2020
Looking at the 66 row, one sold for $43. The other 3 sold for $129, $138 and $192.
Sure enough, when following the links on each of the sales, the coin that sold for $43 was a type A reverse and the other three were type B reverse
Looking at the MS66+ row, the four recent sales are $164, $216, $329 and $900. The last coin, the $900 sale, was a type B reverse.
Clearly if one or two coins grade MS66 or 66+ that pays for most of the roll by itself and of course that’s not a guarantee but looking at the quality of these coins I would be shocked if they were not a few of them
If you want to get really ambitious and look at the last diagram those are the MS67 graded 1959 quarters, most recent auction sales.
The 4 lots sold for :
$456, $552, $5520, and $6000
And the one coin grading 67+ that went to auction, sold for $9600. Obviously if 1 of the 40 coins were to grade 67, it's a home run.
Of course we all know the only three guarantees in life or death taxes and unpredictable grading at PCGS & NGC
Daniel, I can't find anything before 1965 out there, seriously for the last 9 months, I have found about 30 wheats out of probably 75 rolls, can't find ANY SILVER 1964 OR EARLIER,
Great info! Thanks!
The easiest way to tell the Type B reverse (in my opinion) is by looking at the "A" in Dollar, on the Type B reverse, the leaf above the "A" in dollar is connected to the "A" in dollar.
On the regular reverse, there is an obvious gap between them
Die deterioration messes with that
So is this any year quarter ? Or specifically 1956 - 1964 ? Thanks so much !!
I'm in the process of looking through all my quarters right now. I have around 1000 silver quarters. I have went through 7 rolls so far and found 2 Type B's...a decent 64, and a maybe ms63 1962.
I found a total of 5 Type B's.
Good job Daniel , great video to have a good day buddy ! AS ALWAYS
Woot! Woot! Shine on superstar!
Going to look to see if I have one. Won't be high grade the ones I have are pretty circulated but the hunt makes it fun. Please explain why getting a thumbs down actually helps.
It’s activity and RUclips picks up in all interactions and it gets promoted more. Thumbs down doesn’t have any negative effect in YT algorithms.
I found a 1891cc spitting eagle, au 58 . Great find or not
That actually looks like a 1964 Type B. The mint had problems with reverse dies failing on quarters and half dollars. So, instead of exerting the costs of making more reverse dies at the minting facility in Philadelphia, the mint utilized retired proof dies for the reverse to fill the void and continue production in those years (1956-1964). My old friend JT Stanton had several examples of these, including the Type C reverses. They are explained in the Cherrypicker's Guide.
I am not sure what you mean, I found and showed a 1960 Type B the rest is just a diagram. You can find the Type B on 1956 to 1964. I never showed a 64'.
@@CoinHELPu somehow you titled the video 1964 "D". So, I thought you had found a 1964 coin. The obverse was hidden by popups at the end of the video. Your example is not a "D". That's my point for clarity.
@@80sFreak100 it’s a 1960 dated coin
Good info my friend
I found a 1959 type B in wonderful shape. I don't know if it is worth getting it graded.
Never a thumbs down on this channel, even if you are giving information not so good for me and my coin , so if you got a thumbs down to give here its just better to not be here thanks for the awesome information on this video i did not know any of it 😮😅😅
Thanks for that!
Also type b has the leaf touching the top of the A.
I wish I could send you a pic of this one. 1960 MS+ DDR - DDO TYPE B No mint. Just from what I can tell under the microscope. I paid $12. On EBay.
If everyone could send me pics I wouldn’t have a life. I have a help community that you can use to ask for help.
I have one
daniel how can i take better coin shots. im a semi rookie photographer. i take amazing shots birds wild life photography but cant do a coin . to save my life ugh
I can't help you on that much, sorry, but try to find this book and that can help you www.amazon.com/Numismatic-Photography-2nd-Mark-Goodman/dp/193399004X
I'm going to stop collecting coins in the stacked silver and gold because there's too much bullshiting going on with coins
I just bought a 1964 p that's gotta be ms63 it has a gap but I can't see any extra detail or definition in the tail feathers.
Can't find the guide on pcgs....regarding A,B,C ,
Thank you Daniel....after looking thru a large bag of quarters I've litterally had for years ... I found 3 "B" reverse quarters 62, 56, 57, ..... ... thank you kindly for the information!
I've got a 1964 Philadelphia(no mint mark) Type A quarter in Xtra-Fine condition. He didn't mention a type A value of the type I have so I'm wondering if there is any extra value for it other than silver content?
