Odd Light Setups At Railroad Crossings

- This video may be having problems with playback due to RUclips processing and I blurr some stuff out and RUclips added a blurr at the beginning that I can't remove. Here is a railroad crossing compilation video of railroad crossings with unusual setup lights either having no front side lights on some signals. extra lights, weirdly arranged lights, and or even lights having off the bottom of bridges. Here's some I've filmed that I put together in this week's compilation video.
Quite some weird light setups indeed! It just goes to show ya that signal maintainers will do what it takes to make people stop.
Yea
@@lydiao599😊
Agreed
And people still don't.
That gate on the right at 4:00 is ENORMOUS, good lord! You can visibly see how much the gate motor struggles to lift it back up again.
It's litterally 3x the size of the rest of the crossing lmao
Surprised they didn't just put a bigger counterweight on the back.
Might need more counterweights.
Seems odd but very unique and cool at the same time
Look
H vhmj
The first one isn’t that weird it’s just doesn’t have its back plate
It's amazing how many people don't respect the red lights.
I know! They don’t get that railroad crossing lights are like traffic lights but more dramatic
6:38 That one's gonna give me nightmares.
How?
@@smiles29099 It just does, probably because of how far up the lights are.
@@RailfannerJones oh
They may be odd and weird, but as long as they work, I ain't complaining.
6:49 that tram is using a WCH e-bell
Nice rail fanning
Thanks for this video. I love wierd signals like this. First time seeing your channel!
Nice bro! You should find more realistic crossing like this! Also i love ur videos!
Signal Maintainers realy have building issues
That first clip shows the lights look pretty small compared to real life ones
They're 8 inch lights without the 20 inch backgrounds they typically have.
@@freebrickproductions they just look weird
@@ThatOneBayAreaRailfanDude Lights without backgrounds usually do, in my experience.
@@freebrickproductions indonisia also have no X
USA: Let's put RR Crossing Lights on the side of bridges and put more gates than necessary
Japan:
the first one looks like something put together with parts from home depot. joking aside, that crossing is fairly normal in the Nederlands, there is no foot bridge at the end of the transit station, they just build a crossing like that, sometimes they build them without the lights, just gates and bells. but the usual is a total of 2 lights by themselves and 2 gates for the whole crossing. and i am sure your wondering where is the rubber sun guard around the lights, im wondering why they missed that.
other than that, the cantilever crossings shown have lights pointed at incoming traffic, and some of them like in the second clip have offside lights like in the center island, again, pointing at all incoming traffic. that includes traffic in both the left and right turn lanes
US crossings don't muck around do they? Those barriers are dropping *immediately.*
13:45 Look at that adorable little pedestrian barrier with ALL the lights.
Have you seen New Jersey? They go crazy with the lights (Search up Belmar station 10th ave railroad crossing and you'll see what I mean)
I think it needs a few more lights. That overkill and ridiculous.
@1:13 Looks like the top pair is pointed more towards the left...
Pointed slightly to the left for both main traffic on Bradshaw rd and the left turn lane on Folsom Blvd to be able to see the lights. The back side top ones are also pointed slightly to the left for the opposite lanes.

Where’s the wch bell
That is an odd configuration! Nice video👍🏻🚂
Yeah
I was going to say most of these trains are going so slow, and are very short. Except for the 2nd to last one.
I've seen 5+min trains go though my town, at like full speed. Where they have engines in the middle, and also one at the end of it.
4:25: The barriers close very quickly after the traffic lights light up :-D Clearance times!?
Here in Europe/Germany it is the case that the traffic lights switch on, then only after about 10 seconds do the barriers begin to lower (at many level crossings there is even radar monitoring, where the barriers only close when the crossing is clear). This takes evacuation times into account. As with the truck, it was already very tight, something that will never happen in such a critical way here in Europe/Germany. You should give pedestrians and vehicles a little time to clear the crossings to prevent them from getting stuck between the closed barriers ;-)
what's with the Blurred Spot in the Beginning? 🤔🤔🤔 After the Train Passes the Blurred Spot is gone and it doesn't show anything there like Personal Information.....
What why in the begging of the video why is there a trangle thing in the corner of the screen
People that just SIT there several seconds AFTER the gates lift really piss me off. Just like the ones that sit there after the regular intersection light turns green.
Fucking MOVE.
9:48 I filmed a crossing with lights like that. It’s 205th Avenue in Hillsboro, OR
0:18 fun fact: yellow line is the shortest
Line in the Cta. From demster Skokie to Howard
Nice video!
13:31 I do like the Railroad/Traffic Light Hybrid! Barely see any of those anywhere!
I thought train railroad crossings would just be normal but I didn't know they were weird looking ones too
11:54 UP 9901s horn is MUSICAL!!! Perfectly in tune
I like train is so cool
How is Oakton - Skokie Station unusual?
The look of the crossing should answer itself comparing to others.
4:22 i find it interesting how the one to the right has no gates at all
1:09 is that a tesla?
Yes
That was unusual crossing! Nice video btw!
Great video on the trains, guys.
Neat setups.
8:03 where was this one located? Im just curious.
Edit: How come almost every crossing in this compilation has unsynchronized lights?
That one's located near the intersection of Folsom Blvd & S Watt Avenue in Sacramento, California.
6:00 cursed train
How is the train cursed?

I love rr crossings and the odd ones
The first one looks exactly how I'd expect a railroad crossing to look coming from out of my workplace with the tracks running down the sidewalk.
The first crossing is in Chicago
At 4:20, not only are lights mounted on a bridge, but the crossbuck is different, it's not at right angles, it is similar to ones used in Australia and the early 20th century US.
These are very realistic!
it’s real not realistic
10:00 on railroad crossing 😊
One thing to Note about the train is that it's using One of the crossings bells WCH type 4 ebell
Like 11 Greetings to the USA 🇺🇸my friend!! Thanks for uploading, have a nice day
2:37 You misspelled the word "Lights" which resulted in "Lioghts"
I hear a Mechanical Bell but not sure what type it was but still great video
Much longer freight trains are no doubt at night and late nights.
Thos e bells are awful!! I like the old mech bells much better
It could be Challenging to set up a Traffic Signal or Railroad Crossing Signals on a Grade Separated Bridges.
its safe to say that the tram line with the blue yellow white livery sucks at making railroad crossings lol
Well actually I just showed the ones with odd setups since that is the compilation. SACRT Light Rail system owns a lot of nice setup crossings. Glenn Dr, Bidwell St, and Mine Shaft Ln has signals with no front lights because there is no roadway coming into them directly only turn lanes so they only need the side and back side lights. Watt Ave & Sunrise Blvd also are owned by SACRT and so far I haven't seen any other railroad or light rail system own crossings with extra sets of lights attached to the bottom of bridges.
Nice video but it would have been nice to see some crossings that aren't in California.
I live in California. Only could get out of state videos when I'm on a vacation once every 1 or 2 years and not much when I do go out of state videos I can get. I don't go traveling for train videos.
You know how much I watching the train screams by at the railroad crossing
4:28 a truck just passed and almost hit the gates
South of Kohl's being on Earth the bells are loud
Another weird one is Salida Blvd/Dakota in Salida!
3:20 Glen Dr is no longer special. LA Metro's K Line has the same basic setup at Oak Street, and High Street but with quad gates
Centinela Ave also
There's other crossings with the same setup as Glenn Dr already before it's an unusual setup though. I never said it was special its just unusual.Just because the K Line has new ones doesn't change that it's still an unusual setup all of them made simular are. This isn't a compilation saying these are the only crossings with these setups I never said or thought that. The K Line doesn't change anything. If SACRT built another crossing with this setup or any other system and railroad it still doesn't change anything because it's a unusual setup you won't find toe easily anywhere but they exist that's the point of this video.
@@MobileRailSpotterRxR Well it is actually more usual than you think either way, especially when it comes to compact corridors where the ROW is basically hugging the paralleling road.
@@sgtdebones But still not usually enough to come across every other crossing therefore still unusual.
@@MobileRailSpotterRxR Maybe in your area. A more unusual crossing is one like Walnut Ave on Metrolink in San Dimas, CA where the cantilever signal is positioned for the paralleling road (which make sense when you view that crossing), or the Estrelita Dr crossing on the Sprinter near Vista-San Marcos, CA
The ones for the no side lights are just t intersection
6:38 theres one crossing just like that in west alis Wisconsin
1:00
The first one is the weirdest I’ve seen
That wch e bell on that light rail is cursed
It doesn't look odd or weird to me.
4:10 Bro wanted to savor the moment
Why are the lrt’s using a wch bell?
6:29 OH GOD THE CROSSING HAD A GROWTH SPURT
He has no Rail road crossing sign on it😮
Woooooow very cool i am from Indonesia

No you're late if you were early you would see a heart at the bottom of your comment
0:00 what the Western Cullen Hayes?
I am sorry why is youtube bluring out a train station, should have put them on the lights where are their back covers
That’s safetran
The SD70Ms do have a weird function for Union Pacific!
You're right these are unusual odd light setups at these railroad crossings and yes I did notice the blur in the first one
