I think the shift to the western Atlantic is good thing. If I remember history well USA really struggled at first, mostly they did not convoy and made the same mistakes as the UK did in WW1. However USA did really advance their submarine fleet in very short order and had the best subs hands down. Everyone thinks USA and the surface flotilla was number 1, but that was the Royal Navy in that department. USA was number 1 in subs. So are our U-boats going to be up against much more advanced and better subs and become the hunted ? Would love to see that.
The first Type IX Boats were 5 sent to the coast of the United States in January of 1942. It was called Operation Drumbeat and for about six months these missions would sink almost 500 freighters and tankers. In February of 1942, Admiral Donitz sent 6 Type IXs to the Caribbean to attack tankers and bauxite ore freighters, and any other merchant ships they could sink. This was known as Operation Neuland, which was also highly successful. The slaughter was only stopped after the US and her Allies improved there ASW capabilities with the use of convoys, more escorts, and especially dedicated ASW aircraft working in concert.
Im still relatively new at Uboat, around 36 hours, and i tend to avoid bigger convoys as i was not really confident in my abilities...and escorts scare me lol but the other night i said "screw it" and attecked one that had 15 ships. I sunk 2 freighters, 2 tankers, and fired a stern torpedo at a corvette chasing me and actually hit it. It really makes you feel good when you start getting good at it
I noticed the piping on the port side of the conning tower. That tells me that your U-Boat is equipped with a snorkel. You might want to use it to use your diesel engines underwater. I enjoy your series. Have fun.
Just got the game 2 days ago. Been having a lot of fun. Only problem I have is getting to find an enemy ship or rather getting into position. Other than that when things do happen I'm having a blast.
The one that missed, you were locked on to the closer one but aimed at the other farther out. 😅 Could've been a hit though, with a little luck. Oh well. The news are quite exciting ngl. This dev team is doing an amazing job. Still puzzled that we still can't give order to reload torpedos from the tab menu though. I don't see a reason why that shouldn't be possible. Anyhow, again a great episode! Cheers 🫡
I've played Uboat for some years and have done the missions in the Americas which IS possible with resupply boats. I start all my campaigns in 1939 and they open up once America and Germany are at War.
@@crazedjester Given the short range of the Type-II, you would struggle to get up to the Arctic convoys and there's not a lot you can do with only a maximum of five torpedoes and a 20mm AA flak gun.
I have a video that is helpful for people new to the game. It might help, but keep trying and you'll be sinking ships left and right in no time! Let me know if I can help at all
@@crazedjester Wolfpack345 has made a very good video on his channel explaining how to use the TDC to conduct attacks on convoys that is easy to understand.
Upcoming updates sound amazing. What are your thoughts?
Will they add supply ships I’ve not see any supply ships in game
@@jasonau1999 you mean like U tankers? They are in the game
Cant wait to see you play through these updates and see whats to come after!

Devs can add more actions for crew like emegency dive or dialogue lines during combat alarm to make better immersion.
Operation Drumbeat here we come. Did it in SH5 WOS - awesome. Looking forward to this.

Looking forward to the DLC, hope they add weird and wacky weapons to add to your sub - floating mines, etc, etc

@@crazedjester yup, you didn't aim the periscope back on target after doing the speed reading... 😅

I really want to do those missions now
I've played the weather startion north labrador and the aruba mission is available from Captain Car-man. Haven't taken it yet those. I'm in late 1942.
Well it's great to know that it is playable. I really want to try those missions
The East coast of North America has been available since I started playing back in November of 2023
Wow....I really have been out of the loop then haha
So Jester, did your type 2 career end with the new updates?

Do u Have subsim radio room account??
I do not. I have never heard of that.
My game keeps crashing right after I destroy a whole convoy
hmmmm not sure what might be causing that. Are you able to see what your latency is when attacking?
