- This RUclips channel is about me Sven Yrvind. I am85 and 9 months old dyslectic solo sailor. I am adapting a modest size 30 year old 17 feet, 5.3 meter long high latitude canoe cruiser of my own design for a sail to Dunedin in NZ. There I have been promised an ice cream.
The route will take me south of Cape of Good Hope, Africa and Cape Leeuwin, Australia.
The voyage is not only intended to be one of pleasure. With two of the three great capes done I believe that if I continue east and round Cape Horn. I can argue that a small boat is seaworthy and that will be good for the man of small means.
Often the 22th every month I do a resume of the project.

Good episode! Takk!
Hello from America! I have started trying to learn Swedish because I have a dream of cruising a small boat in Sweden and Finland one summer. Have a good time at the boat show. I am sure enjoying watching your boat come to life. Tack så mycket.
Enjoyed this! Thank you again for sharing! ❤❤
Maybe you can use a thinner rope, like a 6 mm rope for the stearing. If the coppertubes inclines with some degrees, and the tubes have a length longer than the action of tha rope, gravity will propably keep the water out?
I like mixed up, it seems warmer. Hello from Minnesota
Why is there so little interest in building small boats in Sweden? If I look up the Polish-designed 5.80m Class Globe 580, there are currently 235 DIY builders of this little marvel aiming to cross the Atlantic or even circumnavigate the globe. Twelve boats are in the trade winds now, crossing the Atlantic to Antiqua. You will inspire the Nordic countries to be more involved. Cheers.
I do not know.
The strange thing is that people like big boats.
Here there is 1000-s of small good boats for sale and very cheap
Can you flare the ends of the pipe using a plumbers tool?
👍
I’ve got to say I don’t like the ideas of running rope through a length of tight fitting pipe. Steering is important. There is a lot of potential for the rope to jam whether through swelling or twisting or fraying or grit getting in there. Why don’t you use grommets or even a couple of grommets lined up to prevent water getting through?
Steering is important. Most sailors agree with that.
As for swelling twisting and other bad I do not agree, In fact the pipe protects the rope.
As for grommets if I flare the ends of the pipe it will be like a long grommet.
