As a black woman and a physician I applaud this young lady.
And I pray and hope she is really enjoying being a kid as well.
Black is the absence of color.
In the 50s, “colored” was used.
Melanated has never been culturally accepted, but congrats, black woman
@JK golden I've always found it interesting that people make the assumption that childhood is fun or easier than being an adult. Many kids, through no fault of their own, have crappy childhoods and very little control over their lives. By the time they become of age, they are screwed up because of the years of trauma they had to endure.
I too am a black female doctor!! She’s inspiring
ABSOLUTELY 💯
@@chocolateangel8743 They didn't really assume that childhood is easier with their comment though. They just said they hope she's enjoying being a kid, which is something that kids should get to do.
She said her mom always "gave me opportunities over things." Such a profound statement from such an intuitive & impressive young lady
BINGO! Thats PARENTING.
Her mom gave her so much she even gave her help passing all her easy online classes! Wish my mom did most of my high school and college work for me in accelerated online classes where you can basically google answers while taking the tests!

I completely agree
Yes, the mom is very keen to pick up on that and a wonderful parent to nurture those gifts.
I also agree. Both mother and daughter are amazing, and because of the nurturing this mother gave her daughter, this young girl will leave a huge footprint on this world.

I’m torn between being extremely happy for this child & knowing what’s ahead and wanting her to enjoy childhood & not take on too much too fast. Wishing the best for her for her life & I hope she’ll have a good experience & it won’t force her to grow up too fast.
That’s true. Hopefully she loves what she does. And is able to also practice self care and not get too engulfed in her work all the time.

I work in an engineering college office. I have had people say they don’t want their daughters to come into engineering because They thought it was too manly or they thought it was dirty. All those people are wrong and we need more women in science.
Why would anyone think engineering is dirty.... what's dirty about using your mind and formulas and science and math to develop and figure things out..... dirty... don't understand what you meant
My daughter wants to be an engineer and we nurture that.
If you are a Mining, Petroleum, Construction engineer and have to go to the site to solve a problem, it could be dirty. My friend who is an engineer said the biggest problem for women is the need to travel for the job. He didn't have that worry as he had a wife who took care of the kids while working her job.

Amazing! My only worries are the social/emotional impacts as medical school and residency are a whole different animal. It sounds like she has awesome support at home and hope she continues to have the social and institutional support as she progresses through each year. Hope for a very bright future (and time to be a kid as well)!
Absolutely amazing, but I have the same concerns. Med School and Grad School are wildly different from any other form of education. I am 100% confident that she will pass the pre clinical coursework with flying colors, but I am concerned about how she will do in the clinical environment at that age. I don't know if any 15 year old would be capable of telling someone they are dying or parents that would be comfortable with someone their child's age treating their child or how you could understand the conditions that would drive someone to addiction with no life experience. I really wish her the best, but it might be better if she does an MD PhD route and focus on research for 4 - 6 years between her pre clinical and clinical training.
Too many bitter Betties up in this b. What makes you think she won't be able to do it? Have you been the one walking this life for her? She clearly has a strong support system and I'm sure she and her mother and her career advisor must have gone through some of what she can expect going into the medical field. It's like like she is the first to have entered med school at such a young age. So what's your problem with her doing it? So, what do you suggest? That she remain in a class that is age appropriate and be bored out of her mind and just be wasting away? Y'all can't even help yourselves.
@@JadeOsaNaija My suggestion is to do research work between the pre clinical and clinical years in order to get both an MD and a PhD while also getting a little more emotionally mature before having to start interacting with adult patients.
@@robertmines5577 you people always act like you are the only ones who knows, whereas, you know nothing. How about you do a through research and then store the result of your research in your brain so as not to forget next time.

There's a window of opportunity many others understand that gives other kids a leg up on us. Instead too many of us have to overcome the effects of poor nutrition, neglect, psychological abuse and programming to be less. I'll never forget the mentality of the aunts of 10 year old's already in the criminal system because they dropped a 5 year old off the top of a building for not stealing candy for them. What steps did a 13 year old take to enter college, let alone medical school? Skipping several grades? I’m a very good student, 14 years old, and I cannot fathom entering college before 17. She must have deliberately went through some process to where she is now, lots of hard work. Thank you for the inspiration!
It depends where she is living and what University accepted her. In a normal case, college has no age limit and you can be accepted it at any time. Though, you will be tested and depending on your work, you'll be accepted or not.
Obviously a child prodigy
@@notthedoctor8621 that’s definitely part of it but to get into college @ 13 you definitely have to go through a special process or perhaps skip several grades.
It's quite likely she entered and graduated high school at an early age, so yes, essentially skipping several grades. Depending on the school system, local education laws, and possibly the school itself, she may have been homeschooled by private tutors, or part of a specialized program/organization for exceptionally talented youth. Her advanced educational intelligence was likely recognized when she was a small child, possibly before elementary school, and then confirmed through rigorous testing to determine her relative grade level performance. She may also be on accelerated programs which cover multiple grades in shorter amounts of time.
She must have GONE through a process...went is past tense. After "have" use past participle - which in this case is "gone". EX: She went to the store. Past tense. EX: She would have gone to the store, but she ran out of time. Past Participle. Keep up the good work. All comes in its due time. Enjoy your childhood.
Amazing. I got goose pimples watching this clip. I'm so proud of her and wish her the best.
She truly is incredible. She (as well as her mom & family) should be so proud. I just hope she will take moments to slow down and really enjoy her accomplishments, and her youth, and not let all this outside validation turn into negative feeling pressure. She’s going to do amazing things regardless of her age.
Would hate tto see her peak at a young age. Hope she can avoid burnout.
Great points. 👍👏👏👏💕
Completely Amazing 👏 ❤
I was thinking that too, she's amazing nonetheless but I think child prodigies especially need special care so they don't I guess drown under all of the weight of expectations and whatnot because that can take a dark turn real fast. From what it looks like, her family is very nurturing and I'm sure that she'll be fine but there's always that kind of concern with these kids
Absolutely incredible! As a college graduate stressed about applying to med school next year at 22, this amazing young woman is heading to med school at 13. Wishing her the absolute best!
I am seriously jealous bc I struggle w anything math related, so all the chemistry and molecular bio type classes require me to get help w any formulas and basics that I've forgotten or never learned. For those questioning how this is possible:
You can be accepted early into medical schools. Much like gifted sports kids committing to college teams years before they finished high school. It’s rare but with her background and the things she’s already accomplished have already proven enough for medical schools to invest into her career. She does have to finished everything before starting. She can’t just go right into the program without MCAT and certain credits/credentials
As of right now, she’s is committed (much like sports kids) and just finishing up her requirements. They are investing in her right now but can ea
Easily take back their investment if she doesnt meet requirements or score well but this young lady seems so bright. She will do amazing things.
So basically be black and talented and you're in. Sounds like a bunch of affirmative action bullshit to me
The fact that you're comparing young athletes to young people who may be conducting surgery, when they don't even know who they are, is not even close to the same thing. Not even close. And people upvoted you? No wonder medical services suck now. We've accepted children into the field. Amazing stupidity.

Advice from a medical student with months to graduate : Baby girl you are too young , medical school is less of intelligence but more of emotional and social Intelligence. It destroys people you will tear up bodies , resuscitate and lose people , fail and get told off when doing your rounds at the hospital it is like military training. Once you are in you will go through stress that will never end because you are dealing with lives and not machines . Baby girl live your life first as a child . You are not mature enough to endure the pressure medical school has . Your mother does not know and If she does she is robbing you of your childhood . Please do what other kids your age are doing for now and keep excelling academically. Life Is about enjoying every moment day by day and not rushing !!!

@@jl1695 it's great to think black women can do such amazing things now, when even 50 years ago being either of those things would've held her back massively.
Lots of greatness out there in "our community" that doesn't make the news (99% of it does not)....
Am sooo happy for this girl
God bless you
Such an inspirational young lady, hope all the best for you Alena and know you will bless and encourage many people!
Her future is so bright! What a smart, poised, beautiful young lady!!! ❤️
WOW! Congratulations my sweet baby, you made us so so so proud. Thanks a million to Mama and dad. Kisses 🎉🎉🎉
Wow just wow. She’s amazing! She’s going to med school at 13….. Go mom to support her so much. Her daughter is brilliant and I wish her the best and not to let anyone get in your way. Just wait to see what this young lady will do.
*She's calm and humble. You go girl achieve your dream!* ❤👏👏👏
Congratulations young lady! Such an accomplishment 👏🏾.
Go girl!! Great job mom!!!
Yes she was blessed to have parents invest in her potential. So many kids who could be high achievers just don’t have the support/secure life. Obviously her Mom (and Dad) champions education also. My guess is she received lots of home school as well as supplemental math and science training programs during her elementary years. My niece was reading by age 3. Her parents have spent so much time developing her academically also.
This is absolutely amazing. I am so proud of you for this achievement and all you have and will accomplish. You are Amazing.
AMAZING !!!.....I've Heard of Being On The Fast Track , But This Is INCREDIBLE !!!....
Consider that being an attending physician is much more that just the ability to complete the academic medical program. While superficially appealing, this is not a positive venture. Performing credibly as a clinician and diagnostician is about combining seasoned personal life experiences with didactic medical knowledge to manage people’ s life or death situations. I can’t fathom that a 17 year old teen is an ideal candidate to undergo the rigors of medical internship. Graduating residency at 20 yo and entering a practice as an attending when the brain is just reaching a level of gestalt in its maturity again questions acceptability. I truly laud this young lady’s incredible talents.
It’s interesting that her expressed desire is to study virology. Why not study viruses at a graduate school in molecular biology or medical biochemistry at the school of medicine there in Birmingham? In this forum she can engage her passion without fear of making clinical errors leading to Medico-legal malpractice consequences?
For her sake, her future patient’s sake, and for medico-legal nightmare potentialities, she needs to direct her talents in endeavors that don’t immediately lead to life and death situations with malpractice consequences. Medical school can certainly wait until after she has allowed her body and brain to mature with life experiences which will better platform a respected medical practitioner.
I’m so proud of this 13 year old and all she is and continuing to accomplish not only as a person but a black young person. I tip my hat to her mom because you don’t see this a lot unfortunately! God bless you and your family. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Public school can't produce these results. If she went to public school her ambition would be just a dream at 13. I wish they would've emphasized that mama homeschooled her!
Big facts!!!
Congratulations, Alena! May God continue to bless you and your family and may you use your gifts of high intelligence and compassion to help many people.
