I the early 80’s I attended an air show in Loveland CO to watch Bob Hoover’s performance in a Shrike. At the end of the show Hoover climbed into his P51D and fired things up. Watching the flaps retract as the hydraulic system came up to pressure was like watching a beast come to life. I stayed long enough to watch him takeoff, then headed for the parking lot. But Bob was not done, and he gave us a high speed pass down the runway. The is nothing like the Merlin in full song.
