I was so fortunate to attend a live lecture by John Bollinger many years ago at Oasis, an Optionetics yearly meeting that unfortunately ended. John Bollinger is brilliant. His indicator is a blessing to traders all over the world. This video brings up great memories of the Oasis event in San Jose, Ca. I think it ended at least 10 years ago.
BB was the first indicator that I'd contact in stock market. Long live John Bollinger!

Let me add that 10 period Bollinger band 1SD, was extensively back tested at MIT by David Elliott about 30 years ago. When price is riding/repeatedly penetrating upper such band THE TREND IS UP IF THE BAND IS HEADED UP AS WELL (this holds true on any time frame chart--5 minute/15M/1H/4H/D/W etc.--direction changes when in that band price rides the lower 1 SD band. INSIDE 1 SD band (10 period) all movements are market noise--and trend RESIDES OUTSIDE that band. If price is riding 1SD band on MTF(say 5M,15 M,1H) simultaneously, you can be sure you are doing the right thing by buying. Martinelli also did work on this noise band. Longer trend can be easily checked by whether 50 period MA is above or below 100 period MA. Comments are welcome.

The biggest change to my mentality i've had to make was realizing that trading purely off of an indicator without any price action analysis is like looking at binoculars instead of looking through them. Indicators are just a tool to understand price action.

When the stock is in a trading range, the slow stochastic and bollinger bands work great! The question is when is the stock in a sideways trading range? As a filter, if the MONTHLY macd is positive and the WEEKLY macd is positive, I just hold the stock, it is trending UP and NOT in a trading range. If the MONTHLY MACD is negative and the macd is negative, the stock is trending DOWN and I short it. When the MONTHLY MACD and WEEKLY MACD are not in the same direction, the stock is NOT trending but pausing, so I use the Bollinger Bands and Slow Stochastic to trend the sideways consolidations. If the stock or mutual fund in moving very slow, both the Weekly and Monthly MACD give too many signals and this is the big flaw with the MACD, when the bollinger works best, the MACD does not work at all. Just avoid slow moving stocks, and use this MACD filter on stocks that are moving. A long term trend line or long term support and resistance also work well with bollinger bands to find support or resistance levels.
The stock is in a range when the EMA 20 is flat.

what do you guys like to use for a 1 minute charting? I tend to use 10 period and 1.5 deviation. Do you agree?
Ohhh shit man, you are still alive!
Last, you can't predict with BB what will be the out coming of a squeeze or a range. For example at 37 mn, you have 2 UP squeezes but also 1 down squeeze, and if they are accumulation or distribution, BB can't tel. One should wait until the trend is starting. The one thing BB can tell that if a move in one side is stronger or weaker than in the other side... which is a strong visual help.
But in the end, every indicator tends to let you loose the complexity of what i going on. So it increase the distance between the reality of price action, and you...

%b is about 50/50 accurate on volatile stocks on daily charts or any time interval. For every stock chart he shows it working on i can show you 1 that doesnt. I use the bollinger bands on a daily basis. I use it mostly for forex and commodities. Sometimes for stocks

The problem with Bollinger bands is that they rely on the MA, witch isn't necessary the center of the price dispersion, first MA is lagging then it is approximating the cycles. MA is the weak point, therefore Keltner uses EMA... one could try Belkhayate's mean of EMA(5), ie. Center of gravity line. BB is build on an old idea of Gaussian Price dispersion also. It should of course be Fisher Transformed :-). OTOH if it run, don't fix it .
In the end, BB measures momentum... anyway i can't get it working for me.
If someone has been trading for years, and they're still trading, that's a good sign.

Do a live trading then see the result. So easy to comment on hindsight with selected chart to suit the indicators.

Does anyone know which volume indicator he was using? It's not the default volume?
At 21:20 he is using Volume with a 50 day SMA on it. He also does offer what he calls BBTK Normalized volume. This is calculated by taking Volume and dividing it by a moving average. Hope it helps.
