I like that this is the full match, without edits. So much more informative than just watching the points with quick edits. This way, we get a real sense of where they take a bit longer to collect their thoughts. It shows us their body language at various stages of the match. And for us beginners or intermediate level players, we can learn some subtle things: like when to get still for receiving, or conversely (I think this is harder to do, and may constitute gamesmanship) how to slightly alter the serve timing.
he's got much better at RPB, but I really hope to see some Ma Lin style TPB lol especially those chop blocks. RPB simply isn't as entertaining to watch (except Wang Hao's). But I guess it'll only get rarer unless ittf decides to bring smaller sized balls back.
@@davidyu1813 When I used to play many years ago we always talked about how well the spin stayed on the ball. Lighter, less robust table tennis balls would lose part of their spin as they traveled from where they were hit to where the opponent made contact.
@@davidyu1813 The reverse penhold backhand is better for topspin than for backspin. That's only a small deficiency for attacking players but it can make a difference.

No..Ma Lin is 'traditional' penhold-both forehand and backhand are hit from 1 side of raquet, Xiu Xin uses opposite sides for forehand and and backhand (Reverse penhold grip) Robert at 67.
@@bobmalack481 I know what traditional and RPB is.. Occasionally yes, even Ma Lin use RPB to attack. But when blocking and pushing this young Xu Xin still use traditional BH compared to him nowadays.
Maybe Xu Xin uses the Stiga offensive wood nct. Both they use blades with a hard top venners. So Ma Linn maybe is using the Yasaka Man Linn extra Offensive

You can clearly see Ma Lin not playing 100%. He's old and got the agenda to let strive the future Chinese star player. Table-tennis is a politicaly/economicaly hugely important sport in this totalitarian country. The players have to stick to their course an this is a prime example for that
Imagine you try to concentrate, thinking about your next shot, minding your own business. And all of a sudden…it’s ALLLLAAAHHHHUUUUUU AKBARRRR time and some dude is yelling something you’ve never heard before in your life. At least you play in a country full of religious people, where ironically, your own country systematically kill and imprison the same group of people at home. If I’d be a Saudi, having to pay Chinese a bunch of price money, you bet I’d turn up the volume of the speakers to max and let the muezzin know that he should not stop yelling to annoy the heck out of the two. The Chinese guys would never dare to ask the umpire to wait for the singing to end. 😂 On the flight back they go like: „Dude, was he singing for us?“
Of course it’s the Benjamins that convince players to go to empty stadiums in countries with zero interest in your sport. It just proofs that even table tennis is a business for the old white men at ITTF.
Anyone see the older guy performed lots and lots illigal serves? He throws the ball very low, onto his body to conseal his racket. This makes Xu Xin missed readings the spin. This is sort of cheating.
6:36 That smile on Xu Xin's face so priceless
I think he's grimacing, not smiling.
Two penhold legends and what an incredible battle! Non-stop metal game till the very end.

This was a legend TT game, battle of the 2 best CPH players at the time, all CPH players must watch this video to enjoy & learn. 👍👍🏓
Xu Xin improved a lot since then.
Ya !!!1 rank 😲😲😲
A lot!!!! More then a loy

It’s nice to see a day without covid
High quality more matches from old please
Best players of previous generation and this generation. Also the classest.
full of details. More strategies between penholder players than shakehand players.
These 2 penholders make table tennis looks so tricky and difficult :)
Yes. It's much more interesting then to see pure attackers finals. They are both shy)))
Wow! Experience vs Youth. So intense match. 3-3 set each and last game till 10-10. It was anybody's match. Both are penholder legends.
No words, looked in suspense and admiration
XX's BH was really much different back then, employing much less RPB but more push blocks.
But his push blocks are really good. I wonder why he abandons that tactic.
@@benthekeeshond545 Players who use push block are forced to use it when ball is coming fast and surprises them so snappy short topspin stroke works. XX got better so he was able to spin with backhand which is considered a more advanced shot for penhold player.
The second party - the real comeback looks like this🔥Xu Xin
Both are artist
I love Xu Xin with this traditional penhhold backhand

Brilliant duel between two tt penhold icons. Those jpen punch blocks kick a** when precisely placed🤘
Xu xin 's BEST OF THE BEST!
The best penholder 👏
20:36 very cute
ma lin is pingpong art
If we think about the age, Ma Lin was far far better in this match.
58:22 RPB ❤❤
what a wonderful race!
I know its a very old match but does anyone notice that from this angle of view, Ma Lin`s services look like his hidding the ball with his free hand?
Xu Xin is handsome 😍
I love that singing on the background. Gives a lot of energy to players and to us.
Starts about 12:27.
Hahahah
Beautiful voice of adzan during the set 2.
😱
Anyone know what blade Xu Xin is using here?
Seems like the hybrid wiod nct, maybe
Maybe Xu Xin uses the Stiga offensive wood nct. Both they use blades with a hard top venners. So Ma Linn maybe is using the Yasaka Man Linn extra Offensive
STIGA Offensive Wood NCT
Beside good bet... you must good of the your hand 😅😅just kidding
I haven't yet finished watching the video, is Xu Xin shaving later in it? If so, please share the timestamp.
i think ma lin is the best technician of table tennis
This are GREAT PENHOLDER😮😮😮😮
Amazing amazing amazing 👍
Back then Xu Xin was still using back-hand push more. Later on, the coach told him to give it up totally.
high quality best
Ma lin legend
New to Table Tennis, so could someone explain to me what is the deal with the touching of the table near the net so much?? what does that represent??? Thanks
removing dust particles that fall unto the table from the net as they could affect the direction of a spinning ball much more than a clean surface
To remove any aliens and extraterrestrial objects from near the net as it could damage the referees
It's a mark of respect for Kong Qiu.
why ittf just upload best resolution now... why not in before this pandemic
?
Permintaan bagus sayang Video nya kurang jelas
Penhold battle
Yup
Chinese VS Chinese 😂😂
The best battle

Xu Xin current penhold world #1
He was sent to retirement home by Mizutani by getting destroyed in two straight Olympics lmao. He is overrated.
Ma has got totally destructed with that mulla vocalizations.
Amazing
Ma Lin had two match points, but Xu Xin came up with the goods.....

Kedengaran suara azan ya, mashaallah
1:01:11 Why Ma Lin gave Xu Xin an easy serve, if he use the side spin serve maybe he could win the game.

Rock n roll Xu Xin was in trouble against 80 years old Ma Lin !
all ma’s serves are illegal ,far from vertical
there is no 100% vertical. it is just referees call. basically to the body a bit.
ya.allah ada suara adzan
Ma Lin's serves are all fouls according to today's rules

felix lebrun must have seen this
I really hate the way Ma Lin was serving.
xu xin's haircut is so ... idk. its just so.. so.. i got nothin

Very true! People should watch some of the matches Ma Lin played during the 38mm ball era. Ma's services were unreturnable.
Fucked up serves indeed
there is a muslim call to prayer (adzan), do you hear it?
Ronaldinho(Ma) vs Neymar(Xu)
Maradonna vs Messi
Xu would be more like Robinho.

Omg
