    The thing is (and I’m a Bears fan) he wasn’t running for his life solely because of a bad offensive line. In fact, last year the offensive line in Chicago was solid most of the season. But Fields was bottom of the league in time from snap to pass attempt meaning he held longer than almost anyone. He did not go through his progressions quickly and could not pick up the speed of the NFL game. On top of that, low interceptions? That’s all fine and good but he had 13 total turnovers so that INT stat is misleading and he only had 20 total TDs. Not great. He played better down the stretch but even in those games he still made too many mistakes and had several games under 200 yards throwing the ball. I love Justin Fields, but there’s no way we can pass up the No. 1 pick two years in a row when it will likely take Fields another 2-3 years to become a good NFL QB who can lead a team to the playoffs, if it happens at all.

      Fields gonna shine in PIT, it's gonna be tough to watch. Caleb feels like 75% chance of bust, 25% of having top 7-12QB value in CHI. If Caleb goes to WAS and CHI gets scared last min, he has a better shot in WAS with Kingsbury.

    I like your take in Fields. I hear too many "experts" trashing him after serving a three year sentence in a pathetic Bears offense. I also believe that he offers the Steelers much more explosive potential than Wilson and will take the job sooner than later. The issue now is the D Johnson trade.

      Yep, back against the wall, Fields is gonna play well. Also, I have been digging a bit into the play calling likelihood in PIT this year, and I think it will be Mike Sullivan. Or, he will control a lot of the passing game. This is great news. Kyren is a monster.

    How is the kyren and bijan take a bold prediction? They're both first round fantasy picks with high upside without being bold, so they're obviously capable of those numbers

    • @TheFantasyFootballShow

      because the stat predictions are always crapped on when I make comments about them. Just look at a few of the comments already in the comments section here, like the one that says "data means nothing with Kyren. he is proven injury prone." etc etc etc.

    Smitty, you simply don't know what your talking about when discussing Justin Fields, so Paulie is here to help. I've consumed a lot of information on Fields over the years including all 22 film. Going back to Ohio State he had a great OL and receivers yet he still had trouble reading defenses, held the ball too long and took far too many sacks. Not much has changed since.
    Fields has started 38 games an appeared in 40 so far. He has been sacked 135 times, with a percentage entirely on him. Smitty, the all 22 film routinely shows Fields missing open receivers downfield and him running into sacks. His injured thumb last season occurred when Fields missed an open receiver and he took a hit and missed games because of it. In those 40 games Fields also has 30 interceptions and 38 fumbles. This isn't all on the coaches.
    Let's also put to bed the idea Fields was given nothing by the Bears and stop pretending it was a Bryce Young situation. In Fields rookie season he had Darnell Mooney who had 81 receptions and 1055 receiving yards. Mooney had been there the entire time as Fields and just got paid by the Falcons. Fields also had Allen Robinson, David Montgomery and Cole Kmet his rookie season. Speaking of Cole Kmet who has been on the Bears the entire time Fields has, this past season by just about every metric Kmet was a top 10 TE in the NFL.
    In Fields second season in the NFL a new front office and coaching staff came in. Yes, Ryan Poles decided to eat some dead cap space and clear some veterans from the roster and start a rebuild. However, Mooney, Kmet, Montgomery and Khalil Herbert who averaged 5.7 ypc were still on the team. They also traded for WR Chase Claypool near the deadline who had 59 receptions and 860 receiving yards in 2021. Bears did not have a 1st round pick but still drafted a solid left tackle in Braxton Jones in the 5th round. You can give Fields some slack for learning a new offense and the start of a rebuild.
    Now we get to this past season and year 2 of the rebuild. Fields is also in year 2 of his new offense. Bears RB's were Herbert, Foreman and roookie Johnson. On the OL, Braxton Jones a solid LT entered his second season. Bears drafted arguably the bests RT in college in Darnell Wright. They signed G Nate Davis in FA who has consistently been a top 15 or 16 guard in the NFL. At the other guard spot was Teven Jenkins who according to PFF was dominant at times and had an overall grade of 72.6. The only hole on the OL was at center. They also traded for one of the best receivers in the NFL, DJ Moore who finished in the top 10 at end of season. So the receivers Fields started 2023 with were Moore, Mooney and Claypool along with Kmet, Tonyan and Lewis at TE. That certainly isn't nothing. It should also be mentioned the Bears had a top 5 defense, including the #1 scoring defense in the NFL after the acquisition of Montez Sweat.
    So what did Fields do with the increase in talent in 2023? In 13 games, because remember, he can't read defenses that well or throw with anticipation which led to him missing an open receiver taking a hit and injuring his thumb, Fields threw 16 TD's, 8 of which came in 2 games, 9 INT's, took 44 sacks and fumbled 10 times. Fields showed very little improvement if any which is why he is gone. He has trouble reading D, he doesn't throw with anticipation, he misses open receivers downfield, he holds the ball to long which leads to more sacks then he takes unnecessary hits which results in injuries. He also does not attack the middle of the field unlike most successful NFL QB's. Jayden Daniels is a slightly inferior version of Fields, he has some of the flaws but doesn't have the arm strength of Fields.
    Overall I like the bold predictions. Smitty is one of the hardest working NFL analysts on the platform. I have no ill feelings toward Fields, hope he thrives in Pittsburgh, he seems like a good guy. Haha, this offseason has been fun so far.

    Conspiracy theory here. My brother dropped a rumor that Russell Wilson could get cut.

    • @TheFantasyFootballShow
      @TheFantasyFootballShow  3 месяца назад

      I doubt he gets cut, but stranger things have happened. Some kind of locker room/off-field situation would need to brew... possible. My guess is they 'want' him to be the guy so bad and they force it for a while, maybe even into Weeks 1-3... Russ aint horrible but he isn't the same guy. Fields still is.. but his window is closing to fully heal his issues, so now is the time for Fields. It's 2024 or never for Fields, in terms of being elite. And, if he does what I think he will once in the lineup in PIT, sky is the limit.
