    Thanks BT!!!. I asked Santa, and he delivered my raspi 4 w/ 8G ram parts. (btw, I got the slick pi clear case with the layered shims of plastic. Love it. The pi fit right in) and I slapped the parts together in about 1/2 hour. Lots of pretty lights. I can ssh into the mynode box . Now just waiting for the entire block chain ledger to download. It looks beautiful. It looks like this download part of the build is going to take a few hours (if not all night long). Probs ready by morning. This is what I call fun as all get out. All I can say is get yourselves a RASPERRY PI and build your own lightening mynode!!!! For two reasons: 1) rely on your on transactional node for privacy. 2) cut transaction costs from $8-10's to cents per txn. No brainer. Next I want to build a BTC real time clock with one of these buggars and wire up your favorite by/sell indicators with a trade bot. Seems easy to do. Next on my todo list.

      You don't make money from a node. You are given the ability to transact freely, and no one can stop you from receiving/sending money to anyone on the planet (unlike centralized solutions like Robinhood).
      Basically a node allows you to enforce the rules of Bitcoin for yourself with no middle-men.

      Running a local node mean your in control of your crypto. A node also allows you to use coin-mixing services as well such as Whirlpool to help you be safe from preying eyes... Added benefits of using a local node are to give a user the advantage of additional privacy and security features (zk-SNARKs, ring signatures, Tor etc) to block transactions from showing on the Blockchain using Tor.

    I have Bitcoin Core running on Ubuntu 24/7 with the entire blockchain downloaded. Using SSD drives and Starlink high speed unlimited internet. I also have a wallet installed and open in Bitcoin core. But this is all new to me. Questions: Is my system automatically working as a node, or do I need to do something else? There are 10 peers connected all the time. And, how can I run a Lightning node along with this? Or would it better to only run a Lightning node and not the Bitcoin Core? Many thanks!

    QUESTION: Picked up a SSD Drive and a Raspberry Pi 4 and started running MyNode but we are now on DAY 9 of down loading the blockchain. MyNode help took days to respond to emails & didn't really answer our question as to why it might be taking so long. Can you offer an explanation? We have high speed internet which is functioning properly. At this stage I am very disappointed in MyNode and am considering starting over with a different Node service. This does not seem to be functioning properly. They do not recommend the quick synch for an SSD drive.

    what does quick sync even really mean> when you sync a full node using the bitcoin core wallet it takes a day or two depending on hardware. Super video, thanks so much Ben, this is really helpful. I have been thinking about 'upgrading' tech/security wise from a hw wallet to running a full node, but have indeed been intimidated so far ;-) This does appear fairly easy indeed. Any experience with using this node in combination with trezor/ledger hw wallets? Or, what would be alternative means to generate/manage private keys with/via MyNode? Thanks again, much appreciated.

      So you can actually use your trezor or ledger with an Electrum or Wasabi wallet that is connected to myNode. setting up raspberry pi is fairly trivial. generally, it's burning an image to a microsd card regardless of which operating system you choose. but, once you boot it up, that's when things are different.
    would be interested in further info on what mynode features there are and delving into what it can do. does the 1tb fill up over time or maintain a general size? can you use proxies? how would tor impact the relative speed versus just using a vpn? can you use both tor & vpn - and if so, which one first? openvpn or built-in app? remote login? what are use cases and configuration with mobile or desktop in things like electrum or samurai, etc.
    what can you do with the command line interface? network speeds? do you need to open up certain ports? many questions like these pop up learning more about it to see whether it's sonething i'd jump into. 🤔

    I went to mynode to see in the hardware list a 16GB microSD. But you used a 32GB. Is there any benefit to using the larger memory card?
    The Premium package is impressive.
    Living in a 220v country it's always a headache to find the voltage for gear. Why that is not noted in specs is beyond me. But I did spot on the snaps on the amazon site that it goes to 240v so the power looks to be OK

    • @bon10101
      @bon10101 4 года назад +1

      Ben Da Rat a 32gb card gives no additional benefit. There is ample room on a 16gb for the OS. I think Ben just had a 32gb laying around.

      Can you use a 1tb micro sd and use that instead of the big SSD? Also can you get one of the little screens for the PI and use that?

    • @bon10101
      @bon10101 4 года назад

      AKS74S I am not sure about the 1tb SD card. Possibly if you partitioned it and put the OS on one partition and myNode pointed the data to the other partition. But 1tb SD cards are super expensive you might as well get a separate HDD or SSD. There are other benefits of having the 2 separate drives I won't go over here.
      As for the screen there is no current LCD screen implementation now and I know adding that feature is far down the list of priority updates.

    Real quick, why would one want or need to own a node?

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  4 года назад +1

      The main reason is a mix of privacy and self verifying all your transactions. This software stack in particular gives you a lot of other things you can trustlessly do like merchant payments and lightning wallets.
      Privacy wise, any mobile wallet you have will be calling home to someone else's node, meaning they would have your tx information as well as your IP address. Running your own node prevents this data leakage.
      The node also shows you to essentially trust no one when doing transactions.

    Thanks for the vid. Why a raspberry though? I see many people running nodes use them, but what's the benefit?

      It's beneficial to have your node always - on, so a cheap dedicated device like the pi is an ideal option. This way when you're out and about, your mobile wallets on your phone can be referencing your own node still.
