  • Most people think Michael Fröhlich, a classic car dealer from Dusseldorf, is a bit mental. Which is perfectly reasonable. He looks like a cross between Uri Geller and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tanned, smiling and self-assured, he's in the classic car business for decades.
The man's a collector himself too, but not as we know it. His daily driver gives a hint to his perversion - it' a fire-damaged Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow with a new drivetrain and suspension setup, but the body still wears its, umm, "patina".
So far so spooky, but his real collection's even more frivolous. It is a collection of 50 cars from 1950 - his year of birth - that have been parked in his estate's garden as if it was an old style scrap yard. Fröhlich calls it his Auto Skulpturenpark - Car Sculpture Park.
But not everyone shares his opinion. "There have been people here from car clubs. Most are shocked when they see this place. I have had some very unfriendly comments."
He Is one of the nicest chaps i have ever met and gave me special permission to film his collection of absolutely incredible cars! Entry to the site is 10 Euros PP or 20 if you want to take pictures or videos.

Watched this issue and wiped away tears of nostalgia. In this park there are rare for Europe cars from the Soviet Union - dug in the back of the ground - Moskvich 400 (or 401) was not officially sold in Europe. The gray car between two trees is a Gaz M20 "Pobeda" which was also not sold outside the Soviet Union.
Congratulations Colin, you have touched the automobile history of my country).
    Kind regards from Moscow!

Well...he's not wrong. One day everyone and everything will cease to exist and or burn up. I understand his point... yeah...you spend 10s if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on something...one day it will be gone, become someone else's or get thrown out. We spend and spend on things that will not matter in life's end. I constantly ponder that, but then again...I find myself buying another project car..lol! Ahh...it's just money. Keep doing what you love to do.
    Cheers!

I came across this guy a few years ago and spent some time looking into it, I found an old german magazine article from when he first set this up and the majority of the cars were in perfect, usable conditon. He was a classic car dealer and owned tons of classic cars so had easy access to almost anything he wanted, we should count ourselves lucky he decided to stop at just 50...The guy is a narcissistic idiot, not only for leaving servicable cars to rot, but for contaminating land that will be there long after he is gone. It doesn't make the profound statement that he thinks it does, it just shows complete disrespect and weird attention seeking in my opinon, but at the end of the day what he has at least proven is that money can't buy intelligence.

They were probably bought when their prices were rock bottom. Then left to rot as the repair bills were too high vis-à-vis their market value at the time. Fast forward a decade or so though… unfortunately most, if not all are total scrap and beyond repair. Even if you refabricated it all, there would be no originality left. So pick up an R32 or Renault Megan/Clio Cup while you can.

I don't get it. There are much better ways to teach people the truth of impermanence.
This is the willful destruction of cultural heritage. He might as well be burning books.
The best analogy I can make is to the book 'Fight Club' in which the protagonist realises that the material world is ultimately unsatisfactory and impermanent and responds in completely the wrong way: Instead of learning to appreciate things while they last, he decides to destroy everything...'I felt like destroying something beautiful'.
