I've been to Japan, stayed with a family for 3 months. I also speak Japanese pretty well, the lady even introduced me to her niece and we went out quite a bit. I think they really loved my mexican cooking, there were never any leftovers lol.
Note #2: Japan is one of the oldest countries that exists today... Edward Deming from the US had a big effect on Japanese manufacturing - the Japanese "Deming Award" is named after him... (American companies ignored him) Item: check out the Japanese hippie poet Nanao Sakaki..."Memorandum", "Happy Lucky Idiot", "Break the Mirror"... he's good... >>> Hey... good candid review !
Japan's history is so rich and ancient and its full of mystery but not only that ,japanese culture and tradition is also very beautifull. my favourite period in japan is the "sengoku jidai" as a mongolian i got to say, i've been very interrested in your history-the japanese spirit, mentality, etc. not interrested in japanese pop-culture tho (its fun but not really my thing). btw we mongols tried to invade japan but failed twice.
Kaalmi Maibi Sengoku jidai sure is an interesting period! A lot of Japanese get into this era. Actually history facts will change because of the new discovery and I think it is one of the interesting things too
Response to my opinion of Bill Wurz's "H of J"... good overview and and a starting place, but not the "whole story"... (That's an exercise left to the student...)... History text books are a difficult topic as you end up stepping on other people's toes... (i'm in the USA, and our political parties scream at each other on "how should American history should be taught"... (America still has an Ego problem ..."John Wayne nationalism", etc...) ....difficult thing... you need history that teaches the good, bad, and ugly if we're going to take democracy seriously, and learn from our mistakes... having a "Cosmic sense of humor" helps with serious stuff, and Bill Wurz plays with it...
Kamikaze means "divine wind". The hurricanes responsible for wrecking the Mongolian ships were said to have been sent by the god(s) (not sure if ancient Japan was monotheistic or polytheistic) to protect Japan. When they say a "kamikaze" came to protect them, they are referring to a divine force on their behalf.
“Another Japanese guy......” lol amazing title
