5:19 The train stops to attach a car transporter. It is common for those who live in southern Finland and those on their way to Lapland to also buy a train ticket for their car, so that they don't have to drive the whole distance, but the whole family + car travels to Lapland during the night 🙂
@@ClairesFootsteps You're not the first and surely not the last who is confused about that 😂 Is there any snow left? In the south, everything is melting away and it's all slushy and miserable 😢
The train pricing is dynamic, based on demand. These cabins during the Christmas can be sold out on the most popular trains pretty much immediately when they are available, since people already know their plans for the next year. Outside the popular season the pricing can be quite cheap. I looked at a night train for some random Tuesday in September 2025, where the price for a 2 person cabin from Helsinki to Rovaniemi is 49 euros.
Next time you have to spend few hours in Helsinki city centre (eg. waiting for a train), I would suggest to head to Central Library Oodi, just a couple blocks away from the central railway station. There should be plenty of space to hang around and architechture is quite interesting. During the warmer months the top floor outdoor terrace is quite nice.
You're a brave soul. I've done the Helsinki-Kemi leg once in a normal seated carriage (in the night train), so more than one hour shorter than what you did. Never again.
Lapland is a region that includes the northernmost parts of Sweden and Finland. Due to its location above the Arctic Circle, Lapland is best known for its magical winter landscapes and northern lights.
@@ClairesFootsteps I think the kind of small compartments you used on your trip were initially intended for people wanting privacy working in the train. Bigger ones are even for team work and having meetings while traveling.

Haha brave or foolish? 🤣 I do a lot of these night journeys and always question myself after 😅😅😅

The daytime train is good too! Only 8 hours to Rovaniemi from Helsinki.
Oooh yeah I bet that's beautiful!
Unless you're really good at sleeping in a chair, sleeper cars offer good value for your money making the next day much easier and more enjoyable.
Yeah I agree, I always book a chair thinking I'll sleep ok and then regret it 😂

I can’t believe they did not even dim the lights in the corridor. It looked really uncomfortable trying to sleep.
Haha I know right! Definitely not as comfy as I thought it would be 😅

Please stop holding your marking your hand clip it onto yourself still works
🤷♀️ I like holding it. Sound quality is different when it's clipped onto a roll neck.
