I love this show. The music, the characters, the scenery and how calm it makes me feel. I would love to have such a life! Thank you for the tour video. Much love and kindness to you!
Love the nostalgia of this series, it's simply great and beautifully made. When you think about it, it brings so much peace to you, something you can unwind to and something which makes you feel better...albeit for half an hour.
I couldn't agree more. Really soothing, a bit like counting sheep. I could watch for hours but usually drift off mid-episode (no problem thanks to iPlayer). I was pleased to hear that they're making a third series. Can't wait.
Same here, it will be on BBC4. I'm glad they showed the last episode of series 2 the other day, I thought they'd forgotten :). (I mean I do have the DVDs but still love watching it again.)
Thanks for this - I absolutely love this series. Lance's relationship with his daughter is so well observed. I'm in a similar situation myself and it all rings so very true.
This is great. (This is particularly handy for us here in the US, where we would have no way of finding out anything about these villages.) A perfect tribute to "The Detectorists" Good job.
Heh, good detectorism my friend. Love this little gem of a show, who would have thought Gareth from the Office would be capable of masterminding such a jewel.
I was born in essex where the film is supposedly based but lived near the filming locations in suffolk..the show is a masterpiece. My guilty pleasure.. Great video!
Best series I've seen, normally I never watch anything more than once, I am on my 3rd time watching detectorists, absolutely love it, everything about it, we need more series for sure
I discovered Detectorists by accident s few years back. Now I have the whole series and watch it over and over to my wife's chagrin. Love this series. I live in California and grew up picking old "junk" out of the riverbed . One of my favorite characters is Bishop .
Brilliant detective work - well done! I'm just watching the series now and thoroughly enjoying it. As an ex-pat Bristolian living in Canada since 1964, Detectorists feels like going home, even though I was never near any of these places. Thanks for this!
Excellent. Thanks for that. I am British, I am a 'detector' and I live in Canada. Although I have heard of the series, I just found it on Amazon Prime Video! I binge watched 3 seasons in 6 nights! Hoping to visit Framlingham when I go to Detectival in September as I won't be far away.
Im lucky enough to live in Framlingham and really enjoy this series. I met Mackenzie in the Station pub (not featured in the series) a couple of weeks ago. The cast were in town for a few weeks filming the soon to be released Christmas special. What a lovely guy
Thanks for the research you did, Richard - brilliant work. I had been wondering where all those places were - especially Lance's house. I found The Detectorists by accident on Netflix (AUS) and got hooked from the get-go! What a genius of a show it is. The script is just so clever. I have watched both seasons... over and over again - can't wait for the 3rd season. Anyone got any updates on it?
thank you for saving me a job, sad git that i am is planning to do the Detectorists trail while on holiday at southwould in the spring. next stop father Teds ville
It looks like a beautiful place. Thanks for putting this together. "Ring pull, '82, something fruity, could be Quatro...Could be Lilt" Toby Jones and MacKenzie Crook are brilliant in this excellent series.
Does anyone know where the big oak tree is where theyre always sat having their break? The one with the big root section that lance is always sat on coming out to the right in all scenes with it in. Lance also gets his mouth stung by the wasp there...?
Says it all..... SUFFOLK. Beautiful county, from Clare to Oulton Broad and Walberswick to Bury St Edmunds. Lance has a Cornish accent (think he is trying to do Suffolk?), but there it is.
I'm not usually interested in english shows. Being a yank it's sometimes hard to understand what is being said. But, I do love that show and have watched more time then I can count. If I ever get across the pond I would definitely take the time to do what you have. 👍
I hope I am not being obtrusive when I write this. For those who also love "Detectorists": One of the most endearing aspects in the series is Crook's incredible ability to sneak in all kinds of allusions - some quite easy to detect, others very challenging. I have written a book about this topic: "Detecting Allusions in Mackenzie Crook's DETECTORISTS - An Illustrated Guide" (140 pages, 55 illustrations). Please contact me at here or at bernie@wahlbrinck.de if you are interested.
I so love this show. I can only assume that it was cancelled after two seasons? Here in the states we received it via public broadcasting and iv'e seen every episode several times. Please if anyone has info if you would share it would be most appreciated. Thanks, also ... Great job on this presentation!
+Mark Betts awesome! I hope Netflix in the us airs the 3rd season. I'm american but shy of 1 or 2 shows we watch almost exclusively British sitcoms, sadly there's several we can get anymore. but British since of humour I suppose, Americans really make crap tv it seems
To my knowledge this show never aired here in the States but somehow it came to my attention and I just thought it was the greatest. Had a crush on Becky's character - oddball but genuine-hearted Andy would have had to be the luckiest guy in the world to have her love. I know that there are different dialects in England, but yours sounds like you belonged in the series. BTW what's up with Ipswich?? Recently saw 2 True Crime episodes about a spree killer and a serial killer there.
Nope. Never lived in Suffolk, or neighbouring Essex (which is where the fictional town of Danebury is supposed to be). Closest I ever got was living in Harrow (NW London). I've also lived in Aberdeen (NE Scotland), and North Yorkshire, so my accent is probably all over the place. When in Aberdeen my English relatives reckoned I had something of a highland accent (Aberdeen is not really highland), but I think we can agree that has definitely worn off by now. Didn't see any serial killers whilst staying in Ipswich.
Farmer Bishop's farm and, and... There was another one I thought of yesterday... Yes, 2nd season, the mayor's home. But like the video though, rather awesome. It came on after RUclips played one video after another, I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. After listening to it for a while I just had to walk to the living room, rewind the video and see what it was.
No, it's in the first series. Tony and Maggie are taking advantage of Lance, and Tony says he cannot take Maggie's mother to bingo because of the fotball, and Lance offers (or is asked) to take her. It then turns out that Tony is not playing football, or even going to a match, but just watching it on TV.
There seriously needs to be about ten more seasons of this.
nah thats how you ruin a good show

Finally someone with sense!!
Agreed 👍 @ministryofdetectmdg

A genius show. Utterly brilliant x
Thanks for this - I absolutely love this series. Lance's relationship with his daughter is so well observed. I'm in a similar situation myself and it all rings so very true.
Just another ring pull ? Simply loved the Detectorists ,gold every time.
"canslaw" was my favourite Expression (series 2 Episode 6 at the DMDC annual meet)). It's like coleslaw but made with old pop cans!
This is great.
(This is particularly handy for us here in the US, where we would have no way of finding out anything about these villages.)
A perfect tribute to "The Detectorists"
Good job.
The scene where the Red Arrows fly over was brilliant! The angle of filming was just right. Breathtaking!
Heh, good detectorism my friend. Love this little gem of a show, who would have thought Gareth from the Office would be capable of masterminding such a jewel.
brilliant little film and great sleuthing skills!!!
I live close to Fram and went in all those pubs regularly and these places are my home. Great show!
This beats terry's Buttons presentation
barely
Buttons? Fuck off!
No it doesn't The button lecture was fascinating compared to this
Not even close
I was born in essex where the film is supposedly based but lived near the filming locations in suffolk..the show is a masterpiece. My guilty pleasure..
Great video!

Acting, writing, directing, music, pure genius!!
Lance finding his gold made a 55 year old cry!!!
I discovered Detectorists by accident s few years back. Now I have the whole series and watch it over and over to my wife's chagrin. Love this series. I live in California and grew up picking old "junk" out of the riverbed . One of my favorite characters is Bishop .
Hope you're able to see the Christmas 2022 special.
Good job Sir, from an ex metal-detector! 😁👍🇬🇧
A truly charming series. ❤️
Ex metal-detectorist!
Hahahahaa this is sooo geeky, I absolutely love it !
I believe there are many more stories that could be written for this brilliant series.😊
Surely there has to be more of this fantastic program. I sincerely hope that there is.
Brilliant video, my wife and I are on about going to filming locations we have watched all 3 series 3 times now, we love it, perfect show!!
Excellent video! Thank you for making it. This is the best show I have ever seen anywhere and, I am looking forward to season 3.
Great video. I do hope that they make a third series
Apparently there will be a third series. I heard it on somewhere on the BBC.
They made it :)
Great work sir!!!!
this video made my week! Thank you.!! This show was so brillant, it was a little bit of calm in a world of chaos.
This is brilliant Richard, thanks for taking the time to visit these places. I love this series and just re-watched them all.
Wonderful! Thanks for this location study.
Brilliant detective work - well done! I'm just watching the series now and thoroughly enjoying it. As an ex-pat Bristolian living in Canada since 1964, Detectorists feels like going home, even though I was never near any of these places. Thanks for this!

First class video. Thanks
Such an interesting and helpful video, thanks! I'll definitely have to pay a visit to these places one day!
Thanks for the research you did, Richard - brilliant work. I had been wondering where all those places were - especially Lance's house. Thank you and well done!
Well done! Thank you very much.
If The Archers was this, i’d never miss it.

Lance also gets his mouth stung by the wasp there...?
ade worman it’s a private estate in Suffolk unfortunately I would love to chill out under that tree for a bit
Can you think of anything else slightly more important that happened under that tree?
Thanks for making this.
its because of this series i bought a metal detector uesd it a few times now its a souvenir
Thank you for the tour. I watched both seasons on Netflix and it's all unavailable now unfortunately.

I hope to make it across the pond again someday, and perhaps look these places up. Great job! Oh, "done them spuds?"
Says it all..... SUFFOLK. Beautiful county, from Clare to Oulton Broad and Walberswick to Bury St Edmunds.
Lance has a Cornish accent (think he is trying to do Suffolk?), but there it is.
This show is a Gem in the rough...
Great show ,thank you
No idea. Google maps isn't much help for trees. Love to know though. Excellent selfie opportunity.
Richard you're a legend!
I'm not usually interested in english shows. Being a yank it's sometimes hard to understand what is being said. But, I do love that show and have watched more time then I can count. If I ever get across the pond I would definitely take the time to do what you have. 👍

Why was Sophie not in season 3?
Is Toby Jones using a West Midlands or Bristol accent? Odd since the series is set in Northern Essex and shot in Suffolk.
I so love this show. I can only assume that it was cancelled after two seasons? Here in the states we received it via public broadcasting and iv'e seen every episode several times. Please if anyone has info if you would share it would be most appreciated. Thanks, also ... Great job on this presentation!
123jerro start filming summer 2017 for the 3rd series

Were you a trainspotter by any chance ?
Pub? Yeah... 😊😊😊
Thank you
oi oi saveloy cheeky
You've forgotten Andy's home...
Yes I know. I tried. I think it was somewhere in Orford but it isn't particularly distinctive and the houses all look the same.
Farmer Bishop's farm and, and... There was another one I thought of yesterday... Yes, 2nd season, the mayor's home. But like the video though, rather awesome. It came on after RUclips played one video after another, I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. Glad you liked it. Series 3 starts tomorrow night in the UK. Not sure where it will be set.
What his mother-in-law's house that they live in series 3? That's in Framingham. Not sure about their series 1 house though
I don't remember seeing the scene where Lance goes to Ipswich. Was that a DVD extra or something?
No, it's in the first series. Tony and Maggie are taking advantage of Lance, and Tony says he cannot take Maggie's mother to bingo because of the fotball, and Lance offers (or is asked) to take her. It then turns out that Tony is not playing football, or even going to a match, but just watching it on TV.
