  • After a good night’s rest in the hotel in Kashgar,
    We proceeded early the next morning to the airport by taxi.
    The Kashgar airport is a modest one and I experienced one of my worst coffee at the airport. Let's not talk about it.
    We were asked to lower all our window shades for the taxi & take off as the airport in Kashgar was also a military one.
    The flight was a smooth one and I managed again to grab some further footage of the ground from above, to show the landscape that we flew over.
    There was a simple throat swab CoVid test on arrival at Hotan airport
    We then took a taxi to our hotel in Hotan. The hotel was a pretty old one hence I did not take any footage of the room. I liken it to a "3 star hotel" back in the day in LongGang in ShenZhen or GongBei in Zhuhai 10-15 years ago. At least that was my experience. It was okay but not on par with what I stayed in in Kashgar. As you (I) get old, you want to stay in better conditions for a hotel, LOL.
    Rented a car with a driver to bring us to a cotton field.
    Along the way we saw cottonwood tress and walnut plantations
    We went thru 1 main gantry point where the police had 1 armed guard and that was a point where everyone had to show their ID and Health QR code.
    Along the way we past at least 2 more roadside check points where Uyghur police glanced into the car to wave us to carry on, or to ask to stop by the road for further checks.
    We were waved along on the 1st one, and the 2nd one, we had to dismount the vehicle and have our temperature and ID scanned.Since we didn’t have IDs but passports, we had to use a pen to record on a sheet of paper, our particulars, there was this one Uyghur policeman who even apologised for the inconvenience of the manual input.
    We then reach a place where we could have lunch,
    Again it was lamb skewers that we had, and I documented the cooks making some Xinjiang noodles, by "picking" the dough into the boiling water to cook
    There was this "King of Fig Tree" nearby and we went to have a look. I didn't take any footage of such tree as what I saw didn't resemble a tree to me. It was a set of undulating wooden stems and branches in the center of a demarcated area, meant to preserve the tree.
    It was a 40 mins (approx) drive from the lunch location to the cottonfield.
    Unfortunately, our quest to find a cotton plantation met with a dead end.
    A cotton plantation did lay ahead of a security gantry point.
    Because we did not make any prior arrangements to enter this area,
    which was outside of Hotan itself, we had to undergo another CoVid test. We did not have the time to wait for such a test result, in addition the police also advised that we had to seek out some foreign affairs office to get a permit to enter a cottonfield.
    So we decided to head back to the city instead
    And go to the Bazaar.
    In Hotan city, we visited the bazaar area, where I took photos of some children.
    And even made weChat friends with their mother so that I could transfer the photos of the children to her
    We headed back to the hotel at about 6pm and had a bit of a rest before proceeding out to the Night Markets to have some dinner
    The 1st night market that we went to, Fernando ‪@FerMuBe‬ did a live stream and that took some time, and we wanted to visit yet another Night Market, hence we skipped dinner to proceed to the next Night Market in order to catch the performances that we were told would take place,
    The 2nd Night market was the highlight of the trip since it was a spectacle of life, culture and celebration.
    People gathered in what looked like banquet style setting to have their dinner and watch the free performances which featured young dancers as well as senior performers who played cultural instruments and sang.
    We could also see police presence , patrolling up and down the floor protecting and preserving the peace.
    It was a coincidence that the XinJiang TV network had a cameraman and reporter there that night and she interviewed us.
    The link to this short interview, I have included here,
    • 4 April 2021 Singapore...
    do check it out
    We retired for the night after the performance and didn’t actually had a proper dinner, just bits of food here and there while I was taking photographs of the performances and then that interview, too much adrenalin and didn’t think about food.
    The next morning, again at 5am, we checked out and proceeded to take a flight back to Urumqi where we transited for the afternoon and then back to ShenZhen.
    Along the way while in the City layover, I met some school children selling

      Yeah sorry guys, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. If any society starts forcibly “re-educating” people without even an opportunity to a fair trial and think that is ok you have already lost your way. And please dont insult me or yourselves by saying that I am blindly following western propaganda. It is especially amusing since people within China have a strict restriction to the news they see and can share. Try sharing anything contrary to the “correct” view on your social networks or talk about Tiananmen killings on weibo and see how well it goes. The fact is the internal media within China is compromised and unreliable because you can’t air anything opposed to the official line. I hope China could work together with the people of Xinjiang rather than use this fear and violence to control them. It is far from you now, but one day your local court might jail you just because you live in the same apartment building as a thief. All societies western eastern have done grave mistakes and hurt people before and even now. It is particularly worrying in China because of the control the state has in the modern era that no voices are allowed to question what is going on amongst the regular chinese people.

    • @trivialquips8002
      @trivialquips8002 3 года назад

      @Winston S real mature of you to assume I’m western. Two wrongs do not make a right. You are correct that America has committed crimes in the middle east but it is not wise to bury your head in the sand seeing that China is making the same mistakes. You are also correct earlier that America gains economically from attacking China on this matter but that doesn’t mean abuses happening in Xinjiang are a conspiracy given the overwhelming evidence. As I originally said, there is no one from within China allowed to question the chinese narrative, if you are arrested tomorrow in China on false charges as a Uyghur, what choices do you have? You think everything the chinese state is doing there is perfect? If a person approaches the media in China in such a case they would be turned away, if they approach media outside China you would call them traitors. The world is not black and white. Two things can happen at the same time. Good day

    • @DrakeLimOfficial

      @Zhang Feng Feng Agreed. We are still ethnically Chinese. We can be proud of our heritage as well as our nationality. Having said that, we should also be critical with whatever information that is being fed to the mass. Question everything we see or hear before we make our own informed judgments about it. No system is perfect, but, as far as the situation goes, the ones pointing the finger at China has four more pointed at themselves.

      The main goal of the very short trip was to show and see for myself that the place that is dubbed as extremely dangerous is actually a normal place after measures are put in place to curb the terrorism that rocked Xinjiang before.
      And to see for myself that there is no genocide, cultural or otherwise.
      No suppression

    Lol not surprised about the cotton farm being strict, they're having trust issues definitely, that or the locals had enough of visitors, maybe better chance when the harvest season begins 😅

    • @DrakeLimOfficial
      @DrakeLimOfficial 3 года назад +1

      Even then, it was also due to the fact that Noel was caught off guard about the COVID test needed before entry, besides making arrangements. Hopefully we can get to see a tour in future.

    • @simonj5128
      @simonj5128 3 года назад +2

      Actually It is not cotton farm restriction, it is cross-city/border restriction during Covid 19.

    • @DrakeLimOfficial
      @DrakeLimOfficial 3 года назад +1

      @@simonj5128 Yeah that’s why I thought. It’s due to COVID and he has to wait for the swab test results that deterred him from waiting to go to the cotton farm

    • @DrakeLimOfficial
      @DrakeLimOfficial 3 года назад

      @Neptunian Yes Exactly. It's confirmation bias. If their views are challenged, it is seen as an attack. It's a natural biological defence mechanism most people would take that is often why, they chose to ignore the "what-if", or evidences that debunked their ideological and dismiss it as, "fake news".
      Having said that though, based on what I read on Karthur's comment, the strictness is still plausible, but it is just not suggested in Noel's video and it is specifically stated that he needs to wait for the COVID result and Noel only has the day to visit the cotton fields, and he has other places in his itinerary. So he left.

    我觉得你没必要慢放警车 我可以告诉你每个小片区都有警车停靠 值夜班 。要求是一但有问题5分钟内要到场。75刚发生后是武警守着的 现在换警察了 如果你没经历过75,早市爆炸案或者大型的恐怖活动 我想你也不太理解。 作为新疆出生长大的人虽然麻烦我反而比较安心
