Wilmington Delaware Hoods - Murder Town SMALL BUT DANGEROUS

- Today we are in Wilmington, Delaware which is the largest city in the state of Delaware. Like nearby Chester, Pennsylvania it was founded by the Swedes and is in fact the first Swedish settlement in North America.
Wilmington is a small city, overshadowed by the Goliaths around it such as nearby Philadelphia and Baltimore but when there it has it's own big city feel. Today the city has a population of 70,000 down from it's peak of 112,000 in 1940. It's the same sad story with Wilmington as in most other American cities, by 1950 the population began to shrink as companies left for greener pastures elsewhere. However the city's population stabilized in 1980 and has stayed constant for 40 years....essentially being stagnant.
25% of the population falls below the poverty line and crime has historically been an issue as the city consistently ranks as one of America's most dangerous cities. Today we drive around the city's most notorious neighborhoods to get a glimpse into daily life in Wilmington known locally as "Murder Town" .
There was a lot to film so this is the part 1 of 2.

It’s crazy how similar Delaware and Baltimore looked if it didn’t read the title I would have thought you was in east Baltimore at some parts
Wow, I didn't know Wilmington is like this. Looks just like Camden and certain parts of Philly.
Yea the culture in these cities are very similar, I live in south bridge Wilmington and I’m originally from Philly, damn near same city, not as much crime as in Philly but if it’s the same size it would be
Alot of ppl didn't know. Should of seen it in the early 90s and 2000s...
The 90s across the whole country was pretty wild ngl this dont even look that bad fr @daquanmcdonald7104
This type of footage has become an urban trope along the northeast corridor. They all have a very similar look. Seems like such images help to define a long and complex post colonial history where so much potential for greatness continues to be unrealized.
Looks very akin to cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore and even Pittsburgh to a certain extent.
@@kevingomez-johnson140 all the same
Every time I miss my beloved home I check one of these videos out for a reminder of why I left.
Every state has hoods. You dum
Subscribed.I was born and raised in a small town. Thank God. But even small towns are being infected with drugs/alcohol and hopelessness. 😢
So true. Inner city problems are no longer just inner city problems. Thanks for subscribing and watching. Please feel free to suggest places for me to visit.
I grew up in the northern suburbs of Wilmington in the 1960s. I turned 9 the summer of 1968 and I remember the riots in the spring of 1968. We were playing basketball and could see the smoke rising up south of us as the fires raged. Governor Terry ordered in the National Guard. It was a mess. Terry lost his re-election bid and died shortly thereafter.
I remember that too. I was in the National Guard in 1968 and was called in to patrol the streets with state police. We patrolled the streets in military jeeps carrying M16's. This of course was after Martin Luther King was assassinated and tensions were high among the black community for good reason.
My father was in the guard at the time and he and my uncle used to stand on market st with their shotguns.
Damn !!! 😮😮😮 !!! Thank you for riding through South bridge. 😊 .
Compton Towne House Apartments!! We used to play football in the church yard! Bancroft Middle School, boys club, summer camp at the YMCA! Back in the day, the homies Marcus mom used to sell cups of frozen Kool aid and we would take it and eat from the bottom cuzz the flavor was there. I remember one time he hit his head on the brick wall of the church and couldn't remember who he was for a couple minutes. Damn back in the day! I went from Compton Village and some how ended up in Compton California. Destiny
I went to Bancroft

Thank u bro for driving safe !!
The parent of the boy who ball rolled in the street is why there are kids getting hit in the street..
proper supervision or taking him to a safe place (park) fenced in yard is a NECESSITY.
I was grateful that it was me driving at that moment and not a drunk driver or stolen car. Thank you for watching.
Was that a gunshot at 2:54
i live in wilmington....from one street to the next it can be good, bad, then ugly.....no excuse...i'm poor and on disability..i live ina one bedroom apartment but i clean up after myself and take care of things....no excuse for the filthiness and uncleanliness......generational curse to the 3rd and 4th generation....sad...they need Christ john 3:16
Whoever is recording this did there research because they know this area very well. Going up-and-down the wrong murder streets sometimes twice like they bout to finish somethin. Must be a FED or a frequent customer driving around in a unmarked car during a Sunday afternoon.
Well, from living in the hood, one of the many things I’ve learned, is that the people who will almost never get touched are the following: the Mormon guys who walk in pairs, the social worker, who is responsible for everybody, being recertified for their benefits, the probation or parole officer, going to see someone, and, of course, the warrant squad. And, of course, everybody seems to conveniently disappear off their steps once they know Jehovah’s Witness is about to show up.
I didn't know that Wilmington was so ghetto
Ghetto is an understatement
@@ProdbyGrimeyredamen to that lol
have you done Anacostia, neighborhood in DC?
Coming very soon. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.
Everybody is outside lol. Gotta be careful in these poor small cities. These people have nothing to lose.
Waiting on a cone up
At least they go outside unlike, most humans nowadays
I'd rather be friends with these people than discord mods
They have nothing to lose but they life. 😀
I saw a guy walking with his little girl. Most of these people are just like us; they have families and friends and just want to live in peace, habe bread on the table, and some money to afford themselves some sense of luxury or entertainment. The majority of crime in these areas is committed by a very small group of individuals.
They just don’t have any opportunities. There are plenty of people who grew up in middle-class families and couldn’t cut it in today’s society.
The struggle is indifferent to class; it’s just more pronounced at the bottom of the socio-economic strata.
Starting at 0:08 the guy sitting by himself at the corner on the right side of the screen......speaks volumes in terms "NO HOPE". Sincere prayers that things will get better for everybody. We all have different paths to walk but things have to get better 🙏, especially when people really try hard!
How you know he's not waiting for bus? 😄
that’s my uncle who’s since passed … stop assuming what you see in a small clip
Make some vids in maryland fam (baltimore, hagerstown)
Absolutely. Baltimore videos coming soon. Stay tuned and thank you for watching.
@@ghettomericaSevern and Annapolis too
With a bulldozer presented at the beginning of the video and hashed these buildings, all boarded up, that only means that everything out there is going to get demolished in the years ahead, giving away to luxury apartments. and high priced condos. Enough to price all of these residents out of their homes to try and find somewhere else to live. in related news, I seemed bothered by the fact that there’s a bunch of one-way streets in an area whose streets are wide enough for two cars to go opposite ways.
Yup . They already started.. some of the homes you seen in this video are no longer standing btw...
Miss Wilmington de just left jersey pass through there it looks worse now
In all actuality this is pretty tame to some of the hoods in Tampa, FL. Sulpher springs and Robles park is a lot worse. You can’t even sit outside more than five minutes in sulpher springs without hearing gun shots. The caption made it seem like it was a lot worse than what it looks like.
I wouldn’t be so fast as to compare hoods, the hood is the hood, regardless of what you see, and don’t see and regardless of what you hear and don’t hear. There are days when I can walk through Brownsville in Brooklyn, and then there are days where I wouldn’t go within half a mile of that place. I’ve been in just about every hood in this country, and while I would say, some places are probably a lot worse than others, I will say that every hood has one thing in common. For the most part, if you come through with a purpose and you don’t bother someone, Most likely, they won’t bother you unless you give them a really good reason to do so
@@yell0wberryexactly people are so intrigued with the hood it's ridiculous
@@yell0wberryexactly..
Don't judge a book by its ridethrough.
Lol bro it’s daytime and don’t get it confused you will get shot in broad daylight in wilmington
Sun's out , guns out lol
Where ?
I’m from Philly so this shit look like the suburbs compared to there… smh
Take a tour through Chicago’s hoods . 👀 !!!
Chicago hoods are weak.
It is no more dangerous than any other city with the same problems with no resolution in place to begin change. There are always nicer neighborhoods where we all live that are not afflicted or plagued with the situations you are surrounded by. There is no perfect place to live you have to look for better neighborhoods within your city.
Blocks i walked when i was a kid in the 80s being from Wilmington its not as bad a depicted
my beloved delaware
Grew up there in the 60s and 70s. Northern Wilmington. Left in the late 70s. Been back a few times. Really sad to DE in this shape.
My home city love&hate type situation
Wilmington , Delaware is not a bad place to live . ❤ , 🙏🏽.
It ain’t good either. Nobody should wanna live in Wilmington 😂
You crazy 😂😂😂
So many nice vehicles, so many run down, boarded up houses. How is that?
Drug dealers
Nope@@charli.reesee7415
That hood like quiet in the daytime but Riverside is one of the hardest hoods in this city at least it used to be.
New projects across street from old projects hope housing are also across the globe
“They wanna redesign the projects so we get comfortable”
Maryland Avenue ❤
Place looks like a way less run down Philly
All the money going into homeless services, Cooperative housing to revitalize existing housing stock, while creating more green spaces, Community Gardens. Obviously not a bank sector priority. While a few have unlimited credit to lose billions of dollars as a tax write-off, Financial expertise and advice is paid up front with financial gain for those creating the scheme to be followed by bankruptcy, and tax write-offs, money that was never theirs at all. Utility upgrades to furnaces of high-efficiency resulting in lower bills with volume discount pricing and apprenticeship education. Devastated not by annual hurricanes covered by insurance, old age has no coverage even though policies must be paid. Suburbia is heavily subsidized, endless freeways and Roads. The private-public Partnerships profiting a few Developers, should extend to every homeowner on this video, with grants to restore the affordable housing we already have, in need of love and financial support where is HUD? Something Marjorie Greene surely would oppose.
We are demanded total allegiance to a disposable society.
okayyy. yeah there are people. yeah places are boarded up. not once in this video do I feel threatened. can't assume all these people are homeless-addicts-violent offenders.
Ya ass would get robbed asap.
Oh, you didn't feel threatened while sitting on your futon watching RUclips, eating Cheetos?
@@slicks8078he's actually eating ruffles dipping them in sour cream

I'm from Philadelphia and I hate the fact that people talk about Wilmington Delaware like it's really that bad they just want the black people out of Wilmington which is f***** up and whoever took this video could have had enough respect to block people faces
Wilmington is literally a smaller Philadelphia, 25 mins apart what makes you think it wouldn't be bad????....
Yes. We want the Homo Erectus out of Wilmington.
I’m from wilmington. It’s bad, bro.
You see the number of violent crimes that happened in this small inner city bruh??? Your Half side of town is still larger than our entire inner city.. put it like this... if you in shit around here... watch ya back because you will catch one around here if you think it's sweet.. it's not. If you live here.. you will find out.
