Hua Chenyu is one of the most versatile and unique artist. Sometimes when he stands on the stage, he can suddenly become a whole team of boy band. He can do the work of several band members by himself. He basically is a rocker but he can handle so many styles of music. He is a great composer too. His creative ability is amazing. This was originally a rap song by Jay Chou ( which you can watch online), rearranged by Hua Chenyu (usually pronounced like Watchin' You). The third part with the high vocals is based on Chinese opera, as are the hand movements, which are called Orchid Fingers. He does a huge variety of styles in this competition.

Great reaction! You are right that Hua Chenyu is the nicest guy next door but when he goes on stage, he becomes the song. He is pure energy on stage. He is primarily a rocker but he sings in so many different styles you can’t really pin down what he is He is not only an amazing singer, but a genius in songwriting and song arrangement as well. His stage presence is absolutely mesmerizing. Please react to more of his performances (I recommend going through the list of all his songs in Singer 2018) and be prepared to be impressed every single time.

So much energy is needed to do this song with so many different styles that fit perfectly together, and the way of his singing continues to take you to the higher and hgher excitement, I really haven't seen any singer can do this...:-)

Nope, all those different voices does not have something to do with the microphone. He is one of those rare composer/singer who truly believes that if a musical instrument cannot convey what he wants, then he will use his voice creatively to do it. If you watch more of his various music, you would think it's a musical instrument - but it's not. It's his voice.

It’s not robotic voice or microphone effect. It’s Chinese opera which used different method of voicing. He loves rock and he has different types of rock songs.

I agree wholeheartedly that I also missed rock music, we hardly have rock music these days. But this young lad, Harry Styles, dropped his debut album in 2017 had possibly the best album in the industry of rock music lately. He’s also being ‘adopted’ by Stevie Nicks, so he’s a real deal. He’s highly praised by quite many of rock legends, even Liam Gallagher who we all knew doesn’t have a ‘friendly’ attitude. You should definitely check his music out if you have spare time. The first track of the album, called Meet Me In The Hallway is my favourite song and I swear to jesus I don’t miss a day without listening to that song. I highly recommend it.
Also, great reactions! Do you somehow like a rock ballad song? If you do, can you react to Hua Chenyu - Ordinary Path / Hua Chenyu - Wayfarer? Both has similar genre, the different is that the other one has electric guitar break. Hua Chenyu - Child at Singer 2018 (I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this) also is a very very nice rock ballad, though it has a mixture of... I don’t know how to say it, but the first two minutes are the best thing you could ever imagine! Please consider to react to one of those three!

Nice reaction.. Love it.. you're right there's not many heavy metal singer anymore, hua never limit his creativity only in one genre, he likes to explore. You will be surprise in every performance, he often rearrange the same song in every performance, so we never get bored. I never have a fix favorite song of his, changes too many times.. heheheh

Hua ChenYu is one of my favorite singers.I was very excited when I listened to his rock songs.So looking forward to more reactions.
Hua Chen yu actually grown up without his mom. Their parents got divorced since he was very small.
He mentioned that his dad left him mostly home by himself (because of work) and that he was afraid of dark. Imagining monster coming out of the darkness. He is a writer and a singer.and also can change some other Chinese song into something more interesting artwork. He put all his suffering and madness and pain from his childhood into music to express and to relieve of it . In the past he was looking for happiness , then one day he changed his mind not too look for it but to stop suffering . Then his mind has been changed and much more better minded and focus on his career his future.

He played in The Birds Nest last sept and it holds 90 thousand people. It sold out in just under 2 minutes. They weren’t expecting that so they decided to hold another one the day after and if u can believe it, it sold out faster.

If you look at the lyrics, I think he was actually using two different narrators' voices in this song--one is the first person narrator who learns to use nunchucks since childhood (and therefore kung fu in the process because nunchucks is one of the weapons people learn when learning kung fu) and the other one is perhaps the voice of a teacher (the opera voice) persuading him to learn to use nunchucks and explaining the benefits of learning it. So there is actually a sort of conversation going on between these two persons or a memory of the conversation. The teacher's voice is in the opera style so it gives a little bit older generation feel (or something like a folklore people tend to hear growing up). I think that is why he chose to use the opera voice here.
I didn't pay attention to the scenario of using different voices all this time either and always wondered what is the purpose of using the opera voice (not a typical choice at all) in the song? Recently when I watched one of his Next show performances again (I think it is Drinking Alone) where he used this similar technique and it dawned on me that he was using this two-persona technique in the Nunchucks performance too.
He definitely switched his voices all the time when singing different songs. It happened when he sings other songs too but it stands out more. It is definitely not an easy thing to do!

Great reaction. You have a long discovery with Hua. Every song has its element of surprise, so any of the singer songs will be impressive. Once you finish Singer 2018 series, go back to Superboy 2013 - his first debut. He almost did not make it with his daring performance. Even then, his performance is so unique and you can see his raw talent. You will be amazed at the transformation. He's been in so many reality shows in China, and all his performances are so unique. Hope you get to view as many as you can. In your spare time, you can view his interviews in Eng Subs to get an idea of his philosophy and understand where he comes from. Not only is he a performer, but has the sweetest, heartwarming personality off stage.
