What a delightful piece. Sounds like Spanish, rockabilly, traditional slack key and rock all rolled into one. Not sure where it's going from one moment to the next and you played it with super smooth transitions. I'll have to listen to more of L. Kwan's compositions. Thanks.
That was just beautiful Fran. Fantastic playing and the guitar sounds wonderful. It is such a pleasure listening to your music and your relaxed style. Thanks so much 👋👍👍
I love when I see another video from. I go get my guitar and try to play along. Thx for being an inspiration Fran. And I love the Led laugh at the end This is happy music
I usually take credit for the arrangement but this was my attempt to get as close as I could to Leonard's original, well actually to his second recording of the song. The song definitely sounds more like a dancing `opihi than a sleeping one, right? Fran
I was surprised to find Leonard's album in a used record store in Berkeley right after I discovered slack key. By then I had already paid over $30 for a scratched up copy on Ebay. Fran
The tab is included in the instructional book by Leonard Kwan but it's long out of print and can be hard to find. I think the tab may be included with the LP as well but that is also hard to find. Fran
Great job, Fran! Nahenahe! BTW, Uncle Leonard used "Leonard's C" for this and used his left thumb on the 2nd fret of the low C to get a D for the D chord. I saw George Kuo do the same thing.
I have never been a good thumb hooker even back in my rock'n'roll days. I really can't imagine pulling off these moves with my thumb nailed to the 6th/2nd for the V chord, but I know plenty of folks can do plenty that I can't (grin). Fran
Nani makamae Ki Ho'alu!...Big Mahalo! We are now permanently here on Oahu. As mentioned in earlier posts, would love to meet up with you...and of course Led! Don't see you guys scheduled any time soon. Do you or does he plan on playing anywhere on Oahu in the next few months? Don't want to miss that opportunity... Aloha.
Aloha Terry. We will be in Kailua about the middle of June. As far as I know Led hasn't found a regular gig on O`ahu yet. He plays Maui and Hawai`i Island on a regular schedule. But he does get occasional shows on O`ahu at various venues. You can get his calendar at www.ledkaapana.com Fran
Thank you .., at least I know now what to search for. That guitar has absolutely beautiful tone. Do you offer private tutorials or have instructional videos of your own ?
There are a few tutorial videos in this channel, but I don't think I have any tab for the clips. I always recommend that folks visit Ozzie Kotani, Harry Koizumi, and Jeff Peterson for great tutorials. Fran

Nice analysis, Leonard was interested in several styles and was known for melding those interests into his slack key.

That was just beautiful Fran. Fantastic playing and the guitar sounds wonderful. It is such a pleasure listening to your music and your relaxed style. Thanks so much 👋👍👍
I've been recording with omnidirectional mics lately and they really do a nice job of conveying the sound of that guitar.
Fran
Such a pleasure to listen to and so well played!
Thank you, I think it needs a bit more work, but it's the most fun kind of work so that's OK.
Fran
One of my all time favorites, good way to wake up. Thanks
Oh yeah, I share your fondness for this song, and trying to figure it out made me respect Uncle Leonard's talent more than ever.
Fran
Lived in kahaluu 45 years and that song always brings me back home Thanks for the music you and Ledeard make
Music you and Leeward make
What a super nice way to begin my Saturday, a lovely slack key tune and a "Guidry grin". Mahalo nui
I think that was the 10th or 12th take so I was way happy to get one I could share. Glad you enjoyed it.
Fran
Great, great music. Thank you, Fran 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you, Michael, I sure appreciate.
Fran
What a happy, playful tune! Very uplifting. Thanks for sharing. 💚
A fitting tribute to the `opihi, eh?
Fran
Another amazing slack key piece, and the feeling of chilled happiness you project is superb. Thank you Fran.
You have to know the happiness reflected my feeling at getting through the song after about two weeks of trying (grin).

This is happy music
Happy indeed, the original Tradewinds recordings are pretty crude by modern standards but Leonard's touch comes through and it's inspiring.
Fran
Great job, Fran! Very nice version of a classic. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Scott, it's taken me a long time but I finally got this one under my fingers.
Fran
Great arrangement and playing. Pretty lively opihi there! Thank you!

Splendid, as always. I hadn't heard this since I had Leonard Kwan's album back in the 70's at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. Mahalo.

I absolutely love your style. 👋😊
Thanks so much, I'm glad to hear you enjoy it. I just try to have fun and add a little nahenahe to the world.
Fran
Excellent! Mahalo my Brother!
You're sure welcome, thanks for stopping by.
Fran
Thanks Fran
You're certainly welcome. Thanks for spending time on the channel.
Fran
Beautiful melody…think I’ll nap now! 🏄😁🇺🇸
I can't say anything about sleeping with the shellfish - "The Godfather" ruined all pescatorial slumber, right?
Fran
Beautiful rendition Fran … my fav slack key tune but cannot find tab … that guitar is beautiful
