    What a delightful piece. Sounds like Spanish, rockabilly, traditional slack key and rock all rolled into one. Not sure where it's going from one moment to the next and you played it with super smooth transitions. I'll have to listen to more of L. Kwan's compositions. Thanks.

      Nice analysis, Leonard was interested in several styles and was known for melding those interests into his slack key.

      I've been recording with omnidirectional mics lately and they really do a nice job of conveying the sound of that guitar.

      Happy indeed, the original Tradewinds recordings are pretty crude by modern standards but Leonard's touch comes through and it's inspiring.

      I usually take credit for the arrangement but this was my attempt to get as close as I could to Leonard's original, well actually to his second recording of the song. The song definitely sounds more like a dancing `opihi than a sleeping one, right?

      I was surprised to find Leonard's album in a used record store in Berkeley right after I discovered slack key. By then I had already paid over $30 for a scratched up copy on Ebay.

    • @franguidry
      @franguidry  9 месяцев назад +1

      The tab is included in the instructional book by Leonard Kwan but it's long out of print and can be hard to find. I think the tab may be included with the LP as well but that is also hard to find.

    Great job, Fran! Nahenahe! BTW, Uncle Leonard used "Leonard's C" for this and used his left thumb on the 2nd fret of the low C to get a D for the D chord. I saw George Kuo do the same thing.

    • @franguidry
      @franguidry  Год назад +1

      I have never been a good thumb hooker even back in my rock'n'roll days. I really can't imagine pulling off these moves with my thumb nailed to the 6th/2nd for the V chord, but I know plenty of folks can do plenty that I can't (grin).
