As a result, the anime chose to make Enlightenment Paladin the "tuner" probably solely because it looks cooler that way. If the anime used the real game's effect then Cheermole would've had to be treated as the tuner, yes. That's not the case in the anime though.

Cooler seems like a personal preference sort of thing. Enlightenment Paladin enveloped in Synchro rings -> Nirvana High makes a little more sense than Cheer Mole somehow turning into Nirvana High.
Say question, if nirvana high palladin had an xyz-pendulum monster counterpart and a fusion-pendulum counterpart what will they be called, what will there effect be (both pendulum and monster) and who will they be summoned?
Nirvana high palladin's fusion counterpart will have comparisons to both elemental hero shining flarewing man and grand neos while is's xyz counterpart will have similarities to number 39: utopia beyond
The Xyz version sort of exists, with Timestar Magician and Magician of Hope. The fusion does not. There are shockingly few fusion spellcaster monsters.
