  • Hi everyone!
In this video we'll be discussing which taxa (groups of animals) Planet Zoo already has in the game and which taxa are lacking representation. Including some suggestions from me and analysis of the Meta Wishlist from the PZ Forums.

Kakapo! Definitely. Worlds heaviest parrots and flightless. Definitely the kiwi, again flightless and could use the burrow mechanic since they sleep underground

I really enjoy your take on this kind of video, they feel very measured and knowledgeable. I wonder where they're going to go with the rest of the packs; personally I'd be happy if they dropped theming to try and fill the roster more evenly with some of these suggestions. I never have too many complaints about what they do choose but I like the purposeful diversity.

Concerning reptiles, i do think we should have more in the game, though more representing different niches than families? In my opinion we need a smaller habitat tortoise like radiated or leopard, and we need a lizard that isn't a monitor. I would also really like a habitat snake, though a technical challenge would be really cool, and I think something like the Green Anaconda or King Cobra might work
    Also, please add Coconut Crab

Imo the green iguana should have really been a habitat animal ;(

@@dr.archaeopteryx5512 I really hope Frontier gives both iguanas an upgrade to habitat status too

The European hare would be great both as a representative for rabbits/hares, and a European animal. Plus they just look really cool.
Coconut crabs and walruses would be personal favourites.

I really love these videos, and find them so interesting, Adam. (that is your name if I remember rightly isn't it?) Please say if I'm mistaken. The other birds that may work are the Australian Bustard and quails. The burrowing owl could work in a walkthrough exhibit as would the quails.

Agouti, Ocelot, Rhea, Coyote, North American porcupine, River otter could be an American dlc, other than that an islands or Australia 2 for sure.

This video makes more sense to sort preferences on in an organised fashion. I feel that the family level is most fair in terms of bringing most visible variety: I feel the vast majority of players would be happy to see those choices, so it's a safer option than going for more niche animals.
I do feel you could have specified more what makes an animal viable to you: many mammals and some of the ones you proposed are smaller than reptiles or birds: Meerkat and Prairie dog are smaller than the Iguana from exhibits, so that's not a very consistent metric to hold on to.
The species level list is completely skewed towards monospecific genera so they are overrepresented because they are the outliers in their family but not so representative: it does not make them good choices.
Looking at the Carnivora order, it's clear that there already are plenty in the game. Artiodactyls might benefit from more balanced geographical representation, but it's not necessary compared to how other taxa are less represented. Marsupials need more diversity no doubt.
Birds is a nice surprise how much is possible staying close to the ground. The one thing I wouldn't like if Frontier only gave us 1 or 2, that just doesn't cut the variety of reasonably viable options. If there is one taxa that deserves an exclusive, big DLC, it's our feathery friends.
By the way, since you're turning this into a series I wonder what else is in store. I would think comparing what species are held in real life zoos as a benchmark could give us some idea as to what proportions are realistic. Definitely birds, reptiles, primates and other small mammals would come out underrepresented then, which could make many players happy to recreate real-life parks.

You could probably get away with the Anhimidae or the screamers as a habitat bird species!
