I don't have the words to express how much I appreacite all these tutorials. Can we please have some more 5 steps on other things? Jazz, Blues, Pop, etc... They are so useful
Semi Professional classical pianist here, been three days since i started this tutorial, never played woogie boogie before, now level 3 (do it for around 20mins a day in my daily practice)
At 72 I'm taking up the piano and have been bouncing around youtube with a bunch of boogie woogie videos - but this one is the one I keep coming back to that actually lets me play something without getting too far ahead of my skill level ...
When I was young my grandmother was my piano tutor, she would smack my fingers, when I got it wrong so I gave up at 13 and never went back. I have always loved all kinds of music and encouraged my son and daughter who is a music teacher to learn the piano which she does well but is an awesome drummer👍 I am turning 64 next week and have challenged myself to learn to play the piano again, starting with the left and right hand full scale and venturing into the 12 bar blues Boogie-woogie style as I've always loved the rhythm. Thank you for the videos 🎹
Thank you very much. This is one of the best tutorials for Boogie Woogie starters. Easy enough for a beginner but getting more and more challenging with every step/level! I like your approach how to expand the "licks/arpeggios" and last but - not least- the hint to use the "minor pentatonic" for soloing! The REAL work starts when you apply this concepts to different scales! Another video on "licks" and "runs" would be the icing on your cake! Thank you very much for getting us started to lift the veil on Boogie Woogie piano!
Love it! I believe it's all within reach. You broke it down so well. Just getting into boogie woogie. It's so full of wild energy, captivating. How can anyone listen to BW, without screaming, "I want to do that!"
Glad I clicked on this -walking bass line seems easiest LH accompaniment Others tutors use a flat 5 but then involves more concentration and impacts on RH performance Loved the 5 levels Keep up the good work, Kevin
Merci pour ce Super Super cours de boogie je me rappelle avoir joue ce style de boogie a 4 pianos devant une salle en delire..c etait ma jeunesse. Je vais me remettre avec plaisir a ce boogie.😊❤
Loved this series. I made it up to level 4 at 120 bpm. It will take another week to get level 5. But I think speed is part of the mastery. At 80 bpm its easier than at 140. So next I will explore Pianote lessons and see what is next for learning how to be a piano player for a cover band.
Thank you so much 4 your brilliant way of explaining all these elements of the blues!!😂 Although Ive been playin for years, I deeply appreciate all of your knowledge and your perspicuous way of explainin everythin!! Plz keep makin videos, perhaps some jazz that is easy to explain and the relationships between jazz and blues chords etc...,,, Thank you so much!!!🔥🔥🔥👌
Discovering Boogie Woogie is the reason I bought a keyboard 2 1/2 years ago. I have a Boogie Woogie Medley. Also, thanks for teaching me Music Box Dancer Lisa. I uploaded the video a few hours ago and I gave you credit in the description.
Fun idea to show five levels and the RH licks are great. For clarity, the G minor pentatonic however, Penta only has five notes right :) G Bb C D F . The G blues scale is a hexatonic six note scale as demonstrated at the end of level five. G Bb C C# D F Happy shredding the keys all.
Hi Kevin. Excellent presentation! Thank you for the sheet music. As you mentioned in a previous video with Lisa, the 8th notes are played in a bouncy "swing" style. The sheet music can be used for reference and the student can freely build on that, (after all it's about improvisation). The final ending you played was very impressive. I actually had to slow the video all the way down to see how you did it. Once I get it down, I'll add it to my repertoire. Looking forward to future videos. Thanks again.
Wow I just started getting inot boogie woogie a few days ago. It started with me trying to learn great balls of fire, and the tutorial im following I think is like lvl 3 to 4, which is probably a bit too hard for a boogie woogie beginner like myself. But I will keep practising, and hopefully one day I will be at the MASTER level! Anyways, thank you so mich for this tutorial breaking down what boogie woogie actually is.
Boogie is all about variations on a theme. I invariably play the LH with more rythmn, ie in swing/shuffle feel with a sort of 8th note triplet with the first two tied so it cooks all by itself and the RH much as you played here. There are lots of well-used patterns to incorporate and vary for greater interest, as you know. But a great intro to boogie and I like your ending a lot. I can play boogie pretty well, up to a point - my weakness is definitely losing the LH when playing tremolos with the RH!! I am trying to improve that with practice. Any tips on that welcomed!! Thanks, great video. Pianote has been great for me in the past.
I hear elements of Boogie Woogie in Benny Andersson's playing with ABBA. When I think of the music I grew up on, seventies and eighties, unmistakable the seventies with Elton John, Queen, Captain & Tenille etc...and then Supertramp... yeah - rock piano etc is so amazing. Love the Gowan video in here about Rock Piano from say a month ago... Boogie Woogie and animated punchy high octane rock piano playing - it's funny, I have a good friend who is a half decent keyboard player and plays in cover bands - but I've never seen him tickle the ivory like this - like when you achieve this scope of playability, you've made it as far as I'm concerned, like that ragtime stuff too etc - it's a whole other level man
I am a complete beginner, I don't know a single chord on a piano, yet the first three levels look like I might be able to chew through. Lets see. Thank you for the lesson.
Profesores como Ud. hacen que nos enamoremos del piano. Me refiero a los que estamos aprendiendo en forma de pasatiempo -no profesional- . Ya que es un instrumento díficil de dominar. Gracias

At 72 I'm taking up the piano and have been bouncing around youtube with a bunch of boogie woogie videos - but this one is the one I keep coming back to that actually lets me play something without getting too far ahead of my skill level ...

It's impressive as heck. Agreed. Like I'd rather concentrate on this than playing say amazing classical pieces...
I'm level 0, but I really love how this sounds. amazing tutorial.
This is what I was looking for. I’m at work and can’t wait to get home to start on level one. Thanks.
