I HONESTLY think this vid is the most important one you've ever released. Multi-instrumentalist already know, and now so does everyone else. Great job, Lisa. Always wonderful videos, especially this one. ENJOY, musicians !!!!
@@PianoteOfficial You are entirely welcome. This one should be your FLAGSHIP video (I think), and available (perhaps) very early on, in your course(s)... Talk about motivating, clearing messy, complicated stuff up quickly, and providing a clear vision & purpose of all the necessary "hard work" that will certainly follow... It provides an IMMEDIATE clear and USEABLE "glide path" into a student's learning, instead of the customary, long arduous "rote learning" grind so prevalent elsewhere (in other courses). These immediate tools and insights are....priceless. You could re-introduce these concepts, later in the course, in more detail, maybe, and with more examples/demos. I think you have a tremendous opportunity here to throw the "shutters" of keyboard understanding and true ability wide-open !!! ...can't wait to see what you decide. --- Doug ("Crossbow"), BMI, songwriter & composer, multi-instrumentalist
Thank you for this!!! 💕 I used to struggle with memorizing songs, relying strictly on their sheet music. Then several months ago I was using a guitar app and had an Aha moment when I realized I could learn any song as long as I knew the chords. It has opened up my musical world! 🙏🏻 🎹 🎶
When I was a teenager, I created "my own" version of Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata by basically doing what you did here - approaching it not exactly as written but rather a serious of chords. I played this on my keyboard using the strings tone and it sounded very dramatic.
With everything you have taught me, I am now transcribing one of my favourite songs. I imagine if one day I have finished it, I may want to show you in one of the Pianote live sessions! Thanks Lisa!
You are the most inspiring piano teacher ever, and I have had a few of them. I imagine you'd be very kind and patient with your students. I trust that is so. And you"'ve got a beautiful voice too.
I love your method of helping non, (but soon to be), piano players!! The way you break it down in sections, makes it so much easier to understand. And so much less intimidating. And having a charming demeanor, voice and smile, doesn’t hurt either. Thank you for these informative and motivational posts!!
Over 50 years I have been playing the piano and CLINK, with one video I can now finally do the one thing I have always wanted to do ... play a favorite song by ear and get the chording put in properly! Thank you Lisa and all other online piano coaches! In return for this I promise to make a video to show something I know musically. Have a terrific day! :)
Hi Miss Lisa I want to say thank you so very much for all your postings and lessons. It's teachers like you that make musicians you are a wonderful teacher! PS I'm going to be jamming in the next month best Wishes Always Teddy!!
As a guitarist and guitar teacher for many many years and currently learning to play piano, this video really spoke to me, I’m delighted to see again how chords, my favourite thing to practice, are the building blocks on piano too. Thank you so much for this video, it’s been a great reassurance that I’m going the right way in my MY musical journey.
Lisa, your energy and passion for piano is contagious! I wish I had had a piano teacher like you when I was a kid. Thanks for inspiring people like me to want to keep learning and exploring music. 🙏🏽
Wow! I'm a late starting, self teacher. Found this so eye opening. After watching it I went back and reanalysed a piece I'm learning. I had marked out the key signature and obvious major chords and inversions already. This time I worked harder to mark out every chord which had me pick up the 7th chords, suspended inversions, and major chords made up from treble and bass clef notes. End result everything in the piece is made up of chords / broken chords. Looking forward to improving my analysis going forward to improve my sight reading and speed of learning new pieces. I have watched videos with variations of what you said before, but they didn't make it as simple and clear as you have here! Thank you 😊
Learn to play, Omar. You won’t regret it and kick yourself for not playing sooner. I started taking lessons at age 60. I am 63 now. It is something I always wanted to do since I was age 10. The half-hour lessons cost me $1,000 per year and I bought a used Roland keyboard for $200. I don’t play for anyone. I play for myself. And I know I will never be as good as Lisa…but I don’t care and no one else will care either. Good luck. Follow your instincts.
I play by ear and can only play from chords on my keyboard. I can't read music at all except note by note. If anyone (or anything ) distracts me, it wipes me out. I love music (naturally) but never had the opportunity to have lessons to learn how to play properly. (we barely had enough for food let alone music lessons growing up). These videos are a great help. I'm in my 70's now, but I still like to learn.
this is super big. I've started relearning piano a few months ago and started labeling notes on my sheet music as chords instead of individual notes whenever they form a broken chord.
When I started to have lessons with real piano teacher, she showed me how to make this connection between chords and notes on the sheet. It was like opening my eyes for the first time. That inspired my to create my own yt channel and teach others what I"ve learned. so feel free to check it out :)
Not only are most songs/pieces based on chords and chord progressions, harmonies are as well. In most cases the harmonies will be based on the scales of the notes above the root notes of the chords. For example, a C chord has the notes C-E-G, C is the root note so often times the harmonies will be base on E or G.
1. Your best vid yet. Thank you so much. 2. What are some suggestions for someone that wants to learn how to play and identify chords? I can read music but I often make "cheat notes" and need to write it out on the page before I play.
You are the reason, I can singing along my favorite song with piano, I am so proud of myself, so could you please make "You Are The Reason" by Calum Scott tutorial when you have chance, Thank you, Lisa! Happy Holiday!
Can you please please pleeeeeaseee make an explanatory video on modes. I watched many videos but still confused. I'm sure if u explain then I'll get it.
*I wanted to send you guys a vid of one of your (4) chord progression creations. It was a video where Lisa took various people who worked at Pianote and ask them to create music with (C, F, Am, G)* *where can I send it?*
And I thought writing the chord names above the measure was a "trick that I can't tell anyone about because it's probably cheating". Guess I'm not the only one "cheating" that way (and it's not cheating at all lol).
Everyone hit the like button of this video so it gets more attention, because this is the most helpful you can get to anyone trying to learn. What more could she say?
I thank you 🙏🙏so much I love the way you teach so beautiful than my sir.....Honestly I don't like the way my sir teach me so left learning piano from him😂😂
There is channel called 'Make Pop Music', his latest video is 'Record PRO Vocals From Home'. . .erm, are you two related? You both remind me of eachother on a whole new level and I just had to ask. I mean no malice. Take care.

Typo...should be "instrumentalists"....plural
Yes u right 👍👍
I agree with your comment 👍

Yes!!! Once you see the chords everything becomes easier and manageable! This is how I teach. Thanks for putting so clearly!

Very important lesson for piano self learner. Amazing! Teacher

Excellent one more video with an excellent positive energy ! :) we are so lucky to see your videos that all of them are so valuable and fantastic !
That's the Video I needed, I always wondered why chords are so important. Now I know
As always, so much love for the way you make things clear and simple ❤❤
I read the comments and I have to agree. This is one of your best videos for the message.
Merci beaucoup.
Very useful video. Your enthusiasm is infectious and I enjoy watching them, even though I don't yet play the piano.

Oh my goodness!!! Fantastic video!
I think this will really help with me learning Jazz Improvisation. Thanks 🙏
I like your skill Miss Lisa. I also hate reading sheet. That’s why I translate to chords so I can easily play by own version
Excellent vid! I'll show this to my bud - he's a guitar player before piano so we'll both get use from this :D
This is a great lesson espescially after watching your video on chord inversions! Really great stuff, thank you!
Really... music has one language 💜 love from india 👍
This is presented really well. Thank you.

Hey there, Wud u be able to do a video on the Tom odell song 'another love ' ? Please please 🙏
And I thought writing the chord names above the measure was a "trick that I can't tell anyone about because it's probably cheating". Guess I'm not the only one "cheating" that way (and it's not cheating at all lol).
My Disney book has the Key above the measure. It don't even give notes for the F Clef staff. I take it alot of beginner books do it this way too
for the song perfect were those guitar notes ?
I enjoy how bubbly her personality is when she speaks of piano

Plus, could you do a tutorial on River Flow on you??

I really like the camera moving while she is talking.
Have a happy Labor Day weekend everybody🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤🎼🎹🎶🎸🎷🎺🎻🥁
I have a question...how do you recognise flats and sharps while reading? 🤨
So now i would need to basically Learn all the Chords that exist, hear a Song, identify its Chords and apply them in my Piano Play right ?
My left hand I struggle with so much.
Is it just me?
Or does Lisa look like the 90's Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn? "Show Me Love"
